PS3 Losing Market Share It Never Had due to Faulty Hardware
The Playstation 3 is Sony’s latest entry in the console market and is just more than a gaming console. The PS3 is also a Blu-Ray player and if you want a Blu-Ray player you will find the PS3 is cheaper than most standalone Blu-Ray players on the market.
This does not mean the PS3 is without faults; it actually has quite a few of them and dare I say, is almost not worth putting up with, considering you are paying $600 (or more) for a console. Not to mention the fact the PS3 is going up against the XBOX 360 and the Nintendo Wii. Both of which are far more popular, especially in North America.
There are two versions of the PS3 available, a $500 base model and the $600 model with all the bells and whistles. The $500 version lacks WiFi, a large hard drive (it includes a 20GB Hard Drive) and comes with a single wireless controller. The $600 PS3 comes with WiFi, Blu-Ray drive, HDMI outputs and a 60GB Hard drive. It seems that Best Buy may even stop selling the base model PS3; this cannot be good for Sony.
It may have the HDMI output but the PS3 ships without an HDMI cable which can cost upwards of $20 online and even more in stores. For $600 one would think they could have included it in the package.
Games, what absolutely must-have games are there for the PS3, I guess it depends on which genres you are into but the truth is there aren’t that many in any genre truly worth owning. The PS3 doesn’t have an equivalent of Halo 3, Gears of War or Lost Planet which ARE must-have titles for the XBOX 360. Resistance: Fall of Man is the only title on the PS3 that could be considered a “must-have” title.
The XBOX 360 now supports background downloading which was enabled in a system update. The PS3 out of the box does not support that feature. This would allow you to download extra content while playing games, a severe oversight on Sony’s part if you ask me.
Here is something that is pretty sad. It’s faster to download an update for your PS3 from your PC than to do it on the PS3 itself. That is to say, you save time by downloading the PS3 update on your computer, transferring it to a memory card and then plugging that into the PS3 and launching the update. It might have been easier to do it from the PS3, if only the update service wasn’t so slow on it, why it’s faster on a PC is a mystery.
Browsing the web is probably best left to the realm of PCs, PDAs and even your cell phone. Including all these extra features with the PS3 was a nice idea and I do mean WAS. It doesn’t excel at web browsing and uses almost exactly the same browser that is available on the PSP. I can’t count the number of times I got lost using the browser on the PSP, the PS3 doesn’t offer much of an improvement. You also can’t surf just using a keyboard and mouse, a shame.
I want to clear something up right now, I never ever said you couldn’t use a USB keyboard and mouse, I said, you can read it above “You also can’t surf just using a keyboard and mouse” and you can’t, you must use the controller to access the address bar and I ask you, what is the point in that.
One of the biggest gripes with the PS3 has got to be the downscaling issue. If your TV only supported a maximum of 1080i resolution the PS3 would not upconvert 720p signals to that resolution, instead it downconverts them to 480p. This means the game was not being displayed as high-definition content. Word has it that Sony is working on a system update but don’t hold your breath.
An almost exact same problem plagues DVD and Blu-Ray playback. It fails to upscale DVDs to 720p or 1080i quality unlike every other HDMI enabled DVD player on the market. Someone in Sony R&D is not doing their job.
The PS3 lacks an IR support; this means is that you can’t use a universal remote with it. I’d consider this minor in comparison to all the other issues the PS3 has, it’s almost not worth worrying about but it is there.
It has an HDMI port. It has an HDMI port that doesn’t work correctly all the time. Sometimes images will flicker or there will be no sound when the PS3 is plugged into an HDMI port. Why, who knows but sometimes resetting the “auto” preferences fixes the issue, sometimes unplugging and plugging the HDMI cable back in works. Sony may or may not be able to fix this issue with a system update. Someone pointed out in the comments that this is due to an issue with earlier HDMI inputs. If your TV is HDMI 1.3 compliant then it seems the issue will not be relevant. Still, would it have killed Sony to work in some kind of backwards compatibility?
The last item is the horrible Playstation Store. Instead of copying successful services like XBOX Live or even Apple iTunes, Sony tried to reinvent the wheel, and failed. The store interface is clunky; a revamped music and move store has yet to surface and you have to use the PS3 to download PSOne games which then must be transferred to your PSP. Yeah, that’s real convenient.
Taking all these hardware/software and interface issues into consideration, the PS3 is yet another over hyped product courtesy of Sony. It’s not really a surprise that the PS3 has a small market share in comparison to the XBOX 360 and the Nintendo Wii. My opinion is you are better off with a XBOX 360, I’m not a real fan of the Wii but it pushes the “fun factor” more than graphics which is where the XBOX 360 shines. Even some of the PS3 games can’t stand up to the graphics offered by the XBOX 360 and it’s a newer console? Please, Sony, get your act together before it’s too late and a world without Sony.
Folks, I suggest you read the updates to the article… not that I’ve removed any of my opinions, nor do I intend to do that. Yes, an update is coming out in two days but this site was also in a holding pattern for a week before it went live.

um, your complaints are about the SOFTWARE, not hardware, which makes me question the validity of your other points…

Another mindless drone wanna be blogger come on now your points don’t even hold water.
yet fell to mention how many xbox 360’s have been breaking on gamers.
March 20th, 2007
sounds like another one of those ignorant xbox 360 fanboy zealots…
March 20th, 2007
Why do people automatically assume if you say bad things on a system you are automatically a fanboy of the other system. I would say you clowns are just PS3 fanboys. Now I have both the 360 and PS3, and right now the PS3 blows. I’m using it only as a blu-ray player for my 1080P Sony LCD. The only thing the author didn’t discuss accurately is the flicker and HDMI. If your TV doesn’t support HDMI 1.3 you will get flicker. NOT PS3 fault like the author make it out to be.

While i think you other guys leaving comments are sony fanboys and are trying to downplay sony’s problems with their hardware. . . .
i do agree that the guy who wrote this article wasn’t very fair.
The 360’s have a very high defect rate. Everyone that i know is on at least their second one.
Personally, i am on my 7th one. One defect after another.
If you want a blu-ray player, then go for the ps3.
If you want a game system, i dont understand why you would pay $200 more to play terrible games.
I know the ps3 will be releasing great exclusive games in the near future, but as of right now? There is nothing good enough out to pay that much for a system.
What is also especially embarassing is the fact that sony touts itself as a superior console, when in reality, it can’t hold it’s own to the 360.
Games that are on both consoles usually are only released in 720p on the ps3, while the “inferior 360″ is releasing an outstanding 1080p.

Just to name a few.
What about that “great” game motostorm?
that game does look very good when moving. But the second you slow down, the game looks terrible.
Not only that, but that game is also only in 720p.
And, even in the lower res of 720p, motorstorm has one of the worst framerate issues that i have seen on game since the days of goldeneye on the nintendo 64.
If there are 2-3 cars on screen, the game chugs. Period.
While the ps3 does look to be a great system in the future, It isn’t worth buying now.
When the ps3 has software flaws workd out, and the games are great, The ps3’s price will have dropped by then anyways.
So why not just wait around?

Pretty good article – correctly pointing out all the problems of PS3 – overhyped, underperforming and too expensive with no good games and interestingly even tests show its graphics are poorer than XBox360 which is a TRUE home entertainment device with amazing Live capability. Many have said its just too hard to programme games on it. Now thousands are sitting unsold on the shelves and even the Ps2 is more popular.

FAULTY HARDWARE, not a single one you mention.
since you talk about hardware faulty, and always compare the ps3 against xbox 360, i can not understand why you dont mention all the overhating, crashing, dvd scrashed, and HARDWARE problems that plague the xbox, and always are talk in xbox live.
I remember when a friend of mine, get abused by her husband, always got an accident with the “door”, “floor”,etc. in confidence she tell me… but then he is very nice, he take me to dinner, give me flowers, etc. She was so blind, until finally open her eyes.
Now, any xbox 360 owner that get their console crashed, send to microsoft because stop working, get a remanufactered one, think this… wow, i thank microsoft, their pay for the reppair, they change me 2 consoles when stop working, im happy with the support, i just have not play more than 4 hours straigth and it work ok, very good console… i think either way is the only console that they owned and think its normal that the console break up anytime, or are just as blind as my friend.
By the way i just read and article when a person install linux and ask anyone to hack a ps3 to win it, it was online for straigth 1440 hours, full 2 months, and never overhating, crashed, or anything. Open your eyes microbrains xbox 360 owners, that your console crash all the time is NOT NORMAL, is just crap what they sell to you.

*LMFAO* did you even play the full version of this game??? There are no slow downs, the game moves at a solid framerate even when there’s a ton of things going on at once… for you to say it has the worst framerate in any game, you are a tard.

These games are not in 1080p native resolution, it upscales to 1080p. Virtua Tennis 3 and Blue Dragon should be in 1080p though.

First of all, hardware or not, all of these are flaws, some of it may be related to hardware, some of it MIGHT be corrected with a firmware update, fine, I will acquiesce that most of the complaints are about software.
That being said, I do own a XBOX 360, I’ve had it for about a year now and I have had zero issues with it. Maybe a good deal of the first run XBOX 360s had a problem, maybe even some of the second run 360s had a problem but all I know is, I have had no issues with my XBOX 360 at all.
I wasn’t aware of the HDMI 1.3 issue, but thanks for pointing that out, I will change the post in that respect. I don’t mention the problems with the XBOX 360 because from where I stand that was mostly the early units. Granted, all these PS3s are early units but I hope no one here is going to attempt to argue exactly why it has such a small market share… no great games… all these issues aside there are no great games.

This article is a joke. The author states:
“The XBOX 360 now supports background downloading which was enabled in a system update. The PS3 out of the box does not support that feature.”
If he had even bothered looking at the 1,6 update – background downloads are supported through, and update? So why is this so different/bad?
This person has not owned a PS3 quite obviously. I run my PS3 through component, and it happily runs games an such in HDTV modes. It runs the XMB in 1080i, and most games are 720p, although GPCE runs in 1080i – very good looking.
Again, you CAN surf using a USB mouse and keyboard on PS3 – I have done this a number of times, this author is extremely misleading.
Download are especially incorrect. I have faster download rates on my PS3, than PC.. I timed a number of them, and managed an amazing 800MB in 12 mins – on my PC it takes almost twice as long.
The HDMI issue this person talks about, are usually due to the TV you are using (read the damn manual fool!!). You need to make sure you have a decent HDMI capable TV, not one a year or more old – the reason is obvious, because many ‘mid resolution’ LCD TV’s did not fully implement the HDMI standard – to blame the PS3 for this is being pedantic and fanboy like. At least there is HDMI on the PS3 – no other console even supports HDMI out of the box? Would you prefer nothing?
And finally comparing market share between X360 and PS3 is hilarious – you are comparing one that has been out 14 months, vs one out only 4 months? Additionally, if the Xbox360 is doing so well, why is the PS2 outselling it still? Last year the PS2 sold 20 million units, the X360 sold 8 million.. somehow this little article is just nothing more than a sad fanboy rant.. almost seemingly jealous rant.

Rather than claiming the poster as an XBOX 360 fanboy or a Wii fanboy, it is clear the poster is a PS3 hater. In either case, this is just an opinion article that isn’t worth the paper it isn’t printed on. A wise man once said that opinions are like a**holes… everyone’s got one, most of them stink.
Make note that this PS3 hater has complained about missing features that are commonly known to be coming out in an update in only two days. In other words, he rushed to post the article ASAP before the claims became lies. An update that is commonly known to be coming out in two days will allow background downloading, for instance. There are also enhancements being made to the web browser.
The author also makes false claims, claiming that you cannot use a keyboard or mouse with the web browser. I do this every day. By merely plugging in a USB keyboard, for instance, it is automatically recognized. Some Bluetooth keyboards work just the same. The update in two days will increase the number of compatible Bluetooth keyboards and mice.
The author also fails to make proper comparisons, by comparing the PS3 *now* to the XBOX 360 *now*, when it comes to software. It is smart to “buy for the future” when you are spending $400 or more on a device. Spending $400 or more on a device due to what it can do NOW without noting what it will do in the FUTURE is just a waste of money. So, comparing a device after 3 months of release to a device after 15 months of release, for instance, is just a ludicrous comparison. An investment is an investment and must be taken into the proper context of relativity and time-frame.
Also, the comments about MotorStorm were clearly made-up, since I have experienced no problems with MotorStorm and its frame-rate, even when there are 10 other vehicles on the screen, with several of them exploding or having the rider thrown off the motorcycle, for instance, with still others throwing mud into the air, all while playing online. The claims are simply unsubstantiated.
The upscaling/downscaling claim is also incorrect. IF the system NEEDS to upscale and/or downscale, then this might be a problem. However, my television supports 720p. This means that there is no upscaling/downscaling needed when a game is displayed in 720p. In other words, this is only a problem for televisions that do NOT support 720p, NOT just televisions that DO support 1080i. In other words, my television (as do most newer televisions) supports BOTH 720p AND 1080i, so this has never been a problem for me. Games in 720p display in 720p and games in 1080i display in 1080i. Games in 1080p (I will be honest that I haven’t tested this) probably display in 720p, rather than 1080i… but this is likely due to my preferences settings, as you are allowed to indicate which resolutions you want the system to use. When the choice is between 720p and 1080i, I prefer the quality of 720p.
As for the downloading of games or software updates, I would image this is different for everyone. My friend, who lives only a few blocks away, has a terrible problem downloading the games and updates. GTHD took 2 or more hours for him to download. This never made sense to me, since I was able to download it in about 1/2 hour. The same goes for updates. Updates are downloaded roughly as fast as when I try to download them via PC. The difference MAY be if your PS3 is connected via WiFi as opposed to a wired ethernet connection. There may also be differences in the router or hub that the PS3 is plugged into in the home network. Perhaps it is also reliant on the ISP. In any case, my system is wired via ethernet and I use Comcast and I have always experienced great download speeds via the PlayStation Store.
It should finally be pointed out that the fact that Best Buy may no longer carry the cheaper model of the PS3 is not a “bad sign” as the author implies. Where is the logic? If Best Buy will stop carrying the cheaper model, but will continue to carry the more expensive model, this likely means that the more expensive models are selling BETTER than the cheaper models. In other words, people who purchase the PS3 are WILLING to shell out an extra $100, which shows that the PS3 is not necessarily “breaking the bank.”
One of the Sony head people said it best in that the PS3 is being marketed and designed as the “Mercedes” of game consoles. Just because you can’t afford a Mercedes, or don’t think that the price of a Mercedes is worth it to you, does not mean there aren’t many people out there who can afford a Mercedes and feels the price of the Mercedes is worth it.

No, I don’t own nor do I have plans to own a PS3, I didn’t realize that would be a prerequisite for writing an article about it, I’ll be sure to get right on purchasing one…
Yes, you can surf using the keyboard and mouse, that was not my point, my point is that you still need to use the controller to access the address bar, doesn’t that seem a bit silly?? (Oh sure, make me change it AGAIN…)
I believe I corrected the HDMI issue so I’m not going to comment on that. Alright, maybe comparing current market share is a bit silly, then let’s look at current sales, shall we…
“Sony’s sold approximately 127,000 Playstations in the month of February, which was surpassed by Xbox 360 (228,000) and Wii (335,000). That puts Sony behind Microsoft almost 2-1 and Nintendo, a daunting 3-1.” http://tech.blorge.com/Structure:%20/2007/03/19/nintendo-wii-is-dominating-playstation-in-next-gen-war/
If the PS3 was selling so well, you shouldn’t be able to walk into a store and find one. I can walk into my local Target, EB Games or Gamespot and pick buy a PS3, well, right now if I wanted to but I don’t, I don’t want to.
I really don’t care what the PS2 is doing, it’s a last generation console, currently the only last generation console you can actually buy new.
March 20th, 2007
Well, there aren’t many people who think it is worth owning, I particularly like Penny Arcade’s take on the situation… http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/02/10 it’s still relevant even more than a month on…

Wine wine wine, like the 360 had a great line up at the start, most of the current PS3 games are ports from other systems, mailny 360, games writen for the PS3 will be much better, give it 6 months

HOW OLD ARE YOU????
The golden rule about writing reviews is experiencing the product for yourself. You can’t simply surf the net, see what other people have said and then add your 2 cents when you have absolutely no idea.
Unless you have tested the product (whatever it is) for yourself, don’t post this utter garbage.

In the first 4 months, official numbers show that the PS3 has slightly outsold what the 360 did in its first 4 months.
http://www.vgcharts.org/aconscomps.php?name1=PS3&name2=X360&type=0&align=0
Just imagine when these “software issues” get worked out. Can you point me to your blahg about Microsoft losing market share during a time when it didn’t even have next-gen competition?
Where’s the blog about 360’s faulty “hardware” that doesn’t allow you to have a 6-way voice & video chat? Or surf the web at all?
Your admission that you haven’t spent time with a PS3 tells us all we need to know. Thanks for you opinion. It will end up the the comical trash heap of history with the rest of the uninformed prognosticators who write without a clue.
P.S. And you mention backwards compatibility… lmao. Good sense of next-gen console history you got there.
March 21st, 2007
I have all three consoles I stopped playing my Wii because i beat zelda. I also stopped playing my 360 because gears of war got old fast, but i cant get enough of resistance online with 39 other people.
March 21st, 2007
Just because I don’t OWN one, doesn’t mean I haven’t spent time with it. Read what is there people and don’t assume just because it is not written. If I had to try and explain everything the post would be almost twice as long.
I also never said the 20GB version didn’t have a Blu-Ray drive, I just didn’t explicitly say it did… since when is that a crime, I guess it is and I’m glad no one here is a law maker or is hopefully not involved in law enforcement in any way…
I mentioned backwards compatibility in reference to HDMI only, not anything else and I think that makes sense since HDMI is a new technology (or fairly new) anyway. The XBOX 360 was designed to do one thing and do it well, play games, play games online on the side, nothing more, nothing less.
What do you think a PC is for, if I want to surf the web, I fire up my laptop or desktop and I play games on my console and my PC too. You can do one or the other but not both at the same time and if you can, kudos.
I don’t do much online gaming, I realize that is the icing on the cake for some people but it’s just not my thing. Everyone seems to think I can actually afford to buy every game, every console or anything else that comes on the market, I can’t, so stop assuming I can.
Now, if someone wants to send me $1,000 to pick up a PS3 and a couple games, I will listen…
Fact is folks, I’d rather spend that money on things I actually like such as PC upgrades, PC Games, XBOX 360 hardware and games. There isn’t much left over after that, after paying bills, eating and such. I probably could afford a PS3 if I didn’t want a place to live or eat any more.
March 21st, 2007
[...] I just can’t help myself. The PS3 is getting an update, as if all it’s other problems aren’t enough, Sony has decided not to address them all but instead offer up the Folding @ home project with the PS3 update. You won’t be able to convince me that they did manage to fix all their ills in the update and if you think that, it’s time to take a step back. [...]

This is too ridiculous. I wish we could simply have an objective person, like the person who wrote this article may or may not be, review all of these consoles. And I wish the obsessively retarted fanboys of their respective companies would stop flooding the internet with their twisted crap. Hooray. Your console is the best. Would you like a ribbon with that prize? You all should just be happy that you have anything. Im not a fan of any company, and Im too poor to get a next-gen console. Be happy with what you have.

“Browsing the web is probably best left to the realm of PCs, PDAs and even your cell phone.”
this statement alone tells me how ignorant or biased you are against the ps3.

Same thing all over the web same xbox fanboys with the same but but but the ps3 as so many faults yet to fail to mention the faults of the xbox 360.
How can you point out the web browsing were ever one knows that’s just there to be there. last time i checked Sony was not trying to take over IE, aol or Mozilla.
come on it gets old yes we know its a cult of people that hate the ps3 woop de do. Also crying about spending $600.00 but you can spend 400.00 only a 200.00 difference to be honest in that case neither one is the wroth the money with in 5-6 years a new system will come out with outdated copy of a cpu gpu

As a hardcore gamer as well as a collector I can pretty much tell you that the writer has a bias towards the PS3. Seeing as the writer apparently has spent significantly more time with the Xbox 360 as well as PC it is natural that he would side more with them. However, to go on and just attack and bash the PS3 is absurd. This was basically a crucifixion and this is most certainly not a professional writer. Maybe he would make a better prosecuter.lol Listen dude every console has it’s strengths and weakness of course. But to only point out the negative is tacky press. Play Resistance Fall Of Man Online, Download GT HD, Enjoy Backwards Compatibility With GOW2, Check Out Oblivion Tommorow, Experience Blu Ray In 1080P, Consider MGS4 & Upcoming Exclusives Like Killzone 2 & Ratchet & Clank, As Well As Truly Innovative new Games Like Little Big Planet. Now Take In Consideration It’s Flaws & Subtract What Firmware Updates Will Fix & Consider The Future & That It Has Been Out For Only 4 Months. Then Make Your Decision. “No, I don’t own nor do I have plans to own a PS3, I didn’t realize that would be a prerequisite for writing an article about it, I’ll be sure to get right on purchasing one…”
Surprise surprise – like WizKid said, how old are you? 12? So you regurgitate some other 12 year old Nintendo fans comments and treat them as fact?
You and this article are complete rubbish – this site is a joke.
March 21st, 2007
LOL “you and this article are complete rubbish” then why do you keep coming back time and again?? LMAO
I’ve seen blu-ray in 1080i and it blows… the same ol’ tired compression artifacts (look like a bad DVD with light and dark pixels around moving objects on screen).. When Sony, or anybody can actually make a movie look like the theater screen at home (without artifacts/compression pixelation) then they have a solution to watching HD movies at home.. So far I don’t think anyone’s really managed this .. yet.
For my money I’d rather get a Wii and 360.. best of both worlds if you ask me. Just my 2 cents. I must give Sony 1 Kudo at least they came out with a virtual world (@Home) .. this is where everyone else is going to have to play catch-up fast or lose the ‘next gen war’

own both, ps3 far behind, end of story, Hmm who can wait for the ps4 is better than the 360×2 debate. sad losers. And the article is spot on the money!
March 21st, 2007
Yes, I’ve spent more time with a XBOX 360 and PC, because I OWN them. It would be unreasonable to expect me to actually be able to purchase a PS3. I am not made of money. Maybe when the price drops? Maybe not. I don’t know. But, I’d rather have a place to live and food to eat that blow $600 on the PS3 right now. $200 difference between the XBOX 360 and PS3 can go a long way, everyone seems to think $200 is chump change, it’s not, at least not to me.
And by the way, in case you missed it, I’m no fan of the Wii either, bad graphics. Anyone want me to write an article about the Wii, I’d be more than happy to but instead of PS3 fanboys/girls, I’d get Nintendo fanboys/girls, there’s no way I, you or anyone is going to win.
The PS3 has faults, the XBOX 360 has faults and the Wii has faults. This one happened to be about the PS3, why should I write about the other consoles in an article about the PS3. I wasn’t trying to compare and contrast, thanks for pointing out the obvious but I thought that went without saying.
March 21st, 2007
You PS3 fanboys should be ashamed of yourselves to get so mad at the author over saying bad things about a game system. I mean are you PS3 sheep getting paid by Sony to protect the system. Now I have both the PS3 and the 360, and I will say the 360 kicks the crap out of the PS3 in all categories except the blu-ray part of it. And quit with the 360 being out first. If Sony was smart they would of had all the 360 updates copied in there sytem at launch, why wait especially after asking for $600.00. And to the guy above who says his PS3 downloads faster than his PC, stop lying. If you are telling the truth your PC is broke. THe PS3 his 56K slow when it comes to downloads and its web browser, way way slower than the 360’s downloads. And Resistance sucks too for the guy who says its a good game. COD2 was a better launch game for the 360 that Resistance is for the PS3.

“I mean are you PS3 sheep getting paid by Sony to protect the system. Now I have both the PS3 and the 360, and I will say the 360 kicks the crap out of the PS3 in all categories”
I was once a Sega (Dreamcast) fanboy, then Microsoft (Xbox) fanboy and now a Sony (PS3) fanboy… Just because I enjoy my PS3 doesn’t make us sheeps you tard. I also own the 360 and the PS3 kills the 360 in every way possible. The lack of rumble was the only thing missing on the PS3 which will be fix shortly now that Sony made a deal with Immersion. Ever since I got my PS3, don’t even touch my 360 anymore other then watch HD-DVD which by the way last night, Miami Vice was the crappiest HD video I have ever seen…
“Resistance sucks too for the guy who says its a good game. COD2 was a better launch game for the 360 that Resistance is for the PS3.”
I doubt you even own a PS3 for you to make a comment like that. either that or you are just a typical xbot who’s blinded by reality…

Steve you’re a clown. By the way you started your post admitting you are a fanboy of whatever sytem you buy tells me your opion means nothing. You like whatever you buy. I swear on my life I have a PS3 and there is no way you can say the PS3 is better. Resistance is god awful, how does it compete with COD3, GOW, GRAW2. Even Battlefield for the 360 is better and its a old game now. Tell me the games you like on the PS3 and that will let eveyone know what type of liar you are. I think most can agree on that, there are no good games on the PS3. And truly do you think Sony’s online system right now is better the XBOX Live. I can download tons movie, they just released the Departed, demos, trailers and more. Texas Holdem, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Frogger, TNMT, Paperboy, Dig Dug and more. PS3 has Q-bert wow. A typical 1gig download takes about 15 min at most. That would take about 4 hours plus on the PS3. The browser is slow, you can’t talk to friends unless you are in the same game. On the 360 I can play Graw2, have a friend on Poker and still have a conversation with him. Just because you buy a sytem doesn’t mean you have to like everything they do. I own both and have no allegiance. So I doubt you own a 360. So my post is for the people who don’t own either system and wants to make a decision. I can’t change a fanboys mind.

@Jonathan Schlaffer
First you stated, you don’t own a Ps3… but you feel that commenting on a system you don’t own, or wish to own is makes you an expert on a subject you know nothing about. Next time, take a moment to “think” about what you are writing, before writing it.
You wouldn’t like it if I wrote a biography of you, when I never met you, or know who you are “personally” would you? heh
You made allegations about a systems problems, even stated “Hardware,” issues, while not siting one “hardware” problem with the Ps3.
The Ps3 has a small market share, because it has only been out for 4 months, and hasn’t yet released in Europe (March 23rd). In case you were wondering the Ps2 has out sold the 360 in every market except for the U.S.
Now for the $600 price tag on the Ps3.. I think you should get a JOB.. preferably something that pays more then the minimum wage, and perhaps then you can afford the Ps3? I don’t see people being “outraged” about the iPhones price, or any cell phone price for that matter.
The iPod was 300 dollars when it first came out, and it can ONLY play music, is it selling? Yes, its the best selling Mp3 player in the market, even though there are “better” and cheaper players.
People don’t get payed 7.25 an hour, Mr. Schlaffer find a new profession.

“Resistance is god awful, how does it compete with COD3, GOW, GRAW2.”
Is that why a lot of reviews out there are above 90%? you are an xbot and I question why you even own a PS3. I played GoW and CoD3, both are great games on the 360 but the insane amount of things going on in Resistance and no slow-downs shows the power of the PS3. You get no tearing on PS3 games where all 360 games have this. The only thing the 360 has over the PS3 is rumble.
“Texas Holdem, Pac Man, Ms. Pac Man, Frogger, TNMT, Paperboy, Dig Dug and more. PS3 has Q-bert wow. ”
*LMFAO* big frickin’ deal. PS store has Tekken 5, Gran Turismo HD, Grip Shift, flOw, Blast Factor, Lemmings… all those games kills anything XBOX arcade live has to offer.
I do give the 360 the edge over on-line play, it’s also picked up quality games lately which in time the PS3 will also, as for great games on the PS3… MOTORSTORM, F1, Virtua Fighter 5, Vitura Tennis 3, Resistance, Oblivion (which btw all reviews have said this game looks superior then the 360)… the reason why I’m staying loyal to the PS3 this generation is because I do see this as the best console on the planet and will pick it over the 360 anyday…

No wonder you can´t afford to buy the best console on the market. If you make the same dumb mistakes at work that you did when writing this “profesional review” I guess you don´t even have a job.
If what you want is the cheapest thing, I can sell you an old Atari that I have. Of course it´s not the best console but is the cheapest one. Isn´t that what you want?
Please don´t pretend to be an expert when it´s is noticeable you don´t have a clue, and you are totally biased toward Xbox.

It’s Dumb Hater not Dumbs Hater. Before you attack a person and call them dumb spell dumb right ok. And by accusing him of being biased to the 360 can we say the same about you and say you are biased towards the PS3. I have both and as of now the PS3 sucks it’s only good for being a Blu-Ray player. So what now and I biased too, since I paid $640 including the tax and another $100 for the extended warranty. I remember when the arrogant Sony people ere saying the XBOX360 should be named the XBOX1.5 and also stated that next generation doesn’t start until the PS3 gets released. Well it’s released and PS3 hasn’t shown anything yet. All I keep hearing is bad news for the PS3, everyday PS3 loses another exclusive or when the games come out together the 360 version looks and plays better. Wake up sheep, I hoping the PS3 actually performs like Sony says it would. I invested in it also.

I never claimed to be an expert or a professional on the PS3, I’d like to see the statement where I said those exact words. I don’t claim to be an expert but that’s not exactly a requirement for writing an article, is it? Does everyone who writes an article about something HAVE to be an expert on the subject. No. They only need to know something about it. I’d like to think that I’m a little beyond that with the PS3.
I also never said this was a review, if it was a review, there would be far more detail. This wasn’t a review, I suggest you read the title.
As for not wanting to own a PS3, it’s not only motivated by money, there are no titles on it that I really wanted. So it’s only been out for four months, in case you haven’t been paying attention, it’s being outsold by every other console on the market, it’s not like people don’t know it’s not out, they just are biting (or is that buying…).
It’s called the “next gen” wars for a reason. So the PS2 is outselling it, the PS2 may well be outselling the XBOX 360 but it’s a last gen console. I hope we aren’t going to start comparing last gen to next gen because that would just somehow be wrong.
The iPhone… wow, let’s just pile on every other overpriced device into the mix. The iPod doesn’t cost $600, it costs $300 so are you trying to say that spending $300 is the same as spending $600, I sure hope not.
As I said before, some of these are hardware problems some of which can be fixed by a firmware update, some not and it’s not clear which is which.
I believe I said in the comments earlier that all the consoles had problems and this happened to be about the PS3. No one would be complaining if I wrote about the issues on the XBOX 360, oh wait… then the XBOX 360 fans would be commenting their heads off, just like all the PS3 people have here. The same would go for the Wii or any other console.

this is just a really bad article. It may have been interesting in December, but all of this is old news to just about everyone who cares. This seems like it was taken from a message board. Please, stop writing. You are no good at it. It took 8 paragraphs for you to even begin to attempt to get to the point of your headline. Only reason I even found this was because a link was in my inbox from google news. This type of reporting is best left un-reported. Biased, biased, biased.

The ps2 is also outselling the ps3, so by your own argument the ps3 must suck? the gba outsells the psp, etc, so what? is anyone seriously going to say a ps2 is better than a 360 or ps3? if so why have you brought either?
sad sad sad. btw when is the ps3 “will be better in the future” argument over? will it still be better in the future in a years time? two? Why isnt it now? It was developed at the same time as the 360, and has only been delayed due to the br issues, the machine is just as old as the 360, the graphics card is older. They just messed up the release! sony should have used that time to an advantage instead they just sat on the hardware doing jack about the issues we all know exist? the machine does nothing the 360 doesnt except br and every honest person knows it. Argue till youve run out of breath, its a fact. BR will soon be as cheap as dvd players now are,so that advantage will also fade. Anyway its all about the games and right now the 360 is smacking my ps3 ars* all the way back to japan.

Fact: I own both the 360 and the PS3
Fact: I enjoy both of them, but end up using the PS3 more because I like the graphics, controller and interface better. BUT both are awesome consoles and I would not trade either one.
Fact: You can indeed ONLY use a keyboard and mouse to surf the Internet on a PS3. I am doing so right now…hit the F1 key to pull up the address bar (note: spend a little time with a product you OWN, and you learn how it works)
Fact: For gaming fans, owning both is a definite goal – they both have merit and value as next-gen consoles. This really doesn’t need to be an ‘either or’ argument, unless you’re 12 and mom and dad make you choose just one for Christmas.
Fact: This is a lame, ill-informed review. Which makes me wonder why I’m responding to it. Oh well, won’t be the first nor the last time that I waste my time responding to some childish comment or story. Ahh the beauty of the Net…and free time after work.

I think this article is really one sided and not very well informed. Yes its true that at release the PS3 only has no must buys but neither did the 360. FF XIII and MGS 4 are definate must buys for the future and games which could prove good are white knight story, heavenly sword, silent hill 5, afrika, GT 5 along with all the multi platform releases such as gta 4 and dmc 4.
I own all 3 of the new consoles and a good PC and out of the consoles I prefer the interface the PS3 offers and though the 360 has 3 or 4 must buys coming out to date it only really has gears of war and thats after more than a year. With some really original ideas coming from sony such as the new Home, I think the future is bright for the PS3 and the 360.
My advise would be if you really just want to play games currently the 360 is cheapers and has more titles but if you want a whole new multimedia experience with some original ideas the PS3 is for you and worth every penny.

New Movie Reviews
I couldn’t understand some parts of this article, but it sounds interesting
November 3rd, 2007
‘Games, what absolutely must-have games are there for the PS3, I guess it depends on which genres you are into but the truth is there aren’t that many in any genre truly worth owning.’
What about the upcoming games Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, Grand Theft Auto, FIFA 2008, etc… There are plenty. Did you know by the end of March 2008 around 160 titles are going to be released?
‘The PS3 out of the box does not support that feature. This would allow you to download extra content while playing games, a severe oversight on Sony’s part if you ask me.’
Yes you can… If you’re downloading, you tell it to ‘Run in Background’ and you can play all the games you want while it’s downloading. Hell, I was playing F1 Championship Edition whilst downloading a demo for the new Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2.
‘Here is something that is pretty sad. It’s faster to download an update for your PS3 from your PC than to do it on the PS3 itself. That is to say, you save time by downloading the PS3 update on your computer, transferring it to a memory card and then plugging that into the PS3 and launching the update. It might have been easier to do it from the PS3, if only the update service wasn’t so slow on it, why it’s faster on a PC is a mystery.’
I download at full speed all the time…
‘Browsing the web is probably best left to the realm of PCs, PDAs and even your cell phone. You also can’t surf just using a keyboard and mouse, a shame.’
It is good, you know – it supports Java and all that, it use useful. And yes, you can surf using a keyboard and mouse… Where the hell do you get all these incorrect facts from?!
