Are you a hardcore fun of Gears of War, ready to prove your skills and mastery of the game through the top ranks of the War zone?  This could be what you all been waiting for.  Microsoft Game Studios and Epic Games announced the Gears of War 2007 Global Xbox LIVE Tournament, sponsored by World Cyber Games.

The game that has more than 3 million copies sold is now a part of the World Cyber Games.

Gamers will compete in ranked matches on Xbox LIVE for four weeks of leaderboard play. The top 11 finalists with the highest individual scores will receive the grand prize, a trip for two to Prague to compete in the Grand Final in July 2007. The grand prize includes four-days and three-night hotel stay, round trip coach air fair for the winner and a guest, ground transportation in Prague and a $200 Visa gift card.

There is more. The top 4 overall ranked players in each participating countries win automatic entrance and 3 days/2 night’s trip to their country´s World Cyber Games 2007 National Championship. Once again this includes a round-trip transportation, hotel stay and a $300 Visa gift card.

Other secondary prizes include and Xbox 360, Viva Piñata, Project Gotham Racing 3, Xbox LIVE Arcade Unplugged Volume 1, Kameo: Elements of Power, a 12-month Xbox LIVE subscription, and Gears of War faceplates and swag.

Cliff Bleszinski, Gears of War producer said “We are thrilled to offer the chance for gamers across the world to come together and share the glories of blowing apart someone into little chunks. May the best man, or Locust, win.”

Registration begins March 29th, and ends on April 29th. Official tournament play begins on April 9th, and ends on May 6th. Winners will be announced sometime in May.

With several user-run leagues out there, this official tournament is likely to draw much attention. I’m sure the competition will be exciting.
