Free T-Mobile WiFi with PSP firmware update

April 2, 2007

Free T-Mobile WiFi with PSP firmware update That should be incentive enough to rush right out and get the latest firmware for your PSP. PSP Firmware version 3.30 adds several new features as well. The new firmware adds support for video resolutions of 720 x 480 and supports more Network PlayStation Titles.

There is always a catch with these “special offers” and the catch is that the free access is only good for six months after your first logon. Just spend a lot of time at your local Starbucks if you want to make use of it, if not, I’ll find it within myself to forgive you.

You have plenty of time to get around to it; your first logon must take place by March 28, 2008 to be granted access to the promotional period. After the six months is up, PSP owners will be offered a discount rate to access the T-Mobile network.

T-Mobile offers plenty of hotspots with more than 7,000 hotspots in the US located in Starbucks, Borders and more than 70 major airports. The network operates at a speed of 1.5Mbps.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in all you need to do is download the firmware update (of course) and then find a local T-Mobile hotspot. Though, if the closest one to you is an airport, I wouldn’t recommend just taking a drive down to the airport to get free WiFi (unless you work at said airport).

Instead of downloading the update manually, transferring it to a memory card and going through all that trouble, I suggest you just use the PSPs built-in Network Update feature but do whichever you prefer.

There you have it free (six month) WiFi service on your PSP, now if only the web pages didn’t load so slowly.
