Wii tops UK Easter charts, as games guru predicts demise of PS3 and Xbox 360
By John Pospisil
Nintendo’s Wii gaming console has had its third most successful week in the UK, with 25,000 units being sold during the Easter period, compared to 17,000 PlayStation 3s and 11,000 Xbox 360s, according to figures leaked to GamesIndustry.biz.
A Nintendo spokesperson told GamesIndustry.biz, ”Everything we are shipping, we are selling … we are doing everything we can to get as much stock out there as possible.”
This news came as a big surprise to many commentators, who assumed the recently released PS3 would enjoy a longer honeymoon period with the UK public.
The Wii continued success would come as no surprise to John Romero, who recently told The Adrenaline Vault, that he predicts the Wii represents the future of console gaming.
“Next-gen console is big but its future isn’t too bright with the emergence of cheap PC multi-core processors and the big change the PC industry will go through during the next 5 years to accommodate the new multi-core-centric hardware designs,” he said.
“My prediction is that the game console in the vein of the PS3 and XBOX 360 is going to either undergo a massive rethink or go away altogether. The Wii has the perfect design for a console that doesn’t pretend to be a PC and is geared more toward casual gamers than hardcore gamers. The hardcore gamers are going to either be playing on their PCs or a new PC-like platform that sits in the living room but still serves the whole house over wifi, even the video signal.”
More evidence that the Wii continues to go from strength to strength.

The Wii will hit a certain mark then stall. Most of my friends who bought it from the start have sold it off in order to get the PS3. When the kids who are playing the Wii now grow up, in about 5 years, their next purchase will be the PS3. It is the Wii that cannot survive, although it is a hell of a lot of fun, it just won’t last beyond the power of the PS3.

I should also add that Nintendo do not care if they win the so called “race” because everything they have sold and continue to sell is bringing them profit, unlike Microsoft and Sony who lost millions if not billions to get their machines out.

pc gaming is dead recent figures show half of the revenue generated by popular titles such as doom 3 is lost to pirates ……consoles are the only “large scale” future for gaming though pc gaming hasn’t died completely, consoles are getting more powerful and will be able to do most basic things a pc can do soon, microsoft is looking into making office software for its consoles, taking lots of surveys

Hey wait… wouldn’t the PS3 and the Xbox 360 be considered a “new PC-gaming like platform”, which happen to do what he was talking about…? I wouldn’t take what Romero has to say seriously, his logic is seriously flawed… he’s by no means a Kojima, not even close.

Well the PS3 will definiately be destroyed but XBox360 is now the hardcore concsole of choice - amazing that after 1.5 years that Xbox 360 sales are only slightly less than brandnew PS3 - looks like that in US, Japan and Europe only the fanboy market has bought PS3 and they are very limited - expect to see only 2 consoles of choice now - Xbox360 for hardcore and sophisticated gamers and wii for low end.

the wii, will die soon, i like the wii, i love the ps3 and the 360 is just a pc with a controller, its games that matter on a console, and the ps3 has and wil have the best games, MGS4, GT5, LBP, RFOM:2, KZONE 2, UNCHARTED, LAIR, RFOM:1, HEAVENLY SWORD, TEKKEN 6, GT5 PROLOUGE, HAZE. wat does the 360 have, gears of war 1 and 2 and halo 3. wow!!! the wii has terrible games.
as a console the 360 is powerful, but loud, and insufficient as in performance, the wii is fun, exciting but it’s a fisher price toy, and the ps3 offers the most, double the power of a 360, blu-ray, free online play, ps home, motion sensing, an hard drve on every console, photo music game and video storage, everything u could ask for in the world of entertainment, there is 1 thing about it however that does get on my nerves, u need to install alot of games on the hard disc. that just ticks me of although it is handy
