Spurned PS3 father says PS4 will "merge into the network"

Spurned PS3 father says PS4 will Despite his imminent “retirement”, the so-called father of the PlayStation, Ken Kutaragi, has already thought about the PS4 and beyond.

Officially, Kutaragi is retiring and will leave his post as Sony Computer Entertainment’s chairman and chief executive in June (though analysts speculate that he was pushed by Sony bosses as a face-saving measure over the botched launch of the PS3).

Speaking to the EE Times, Kutaragi, said that “as a matter of course, I have the vision of Playstation 4, 5 and 6, which will merge into the network”.

Kurtaragi said that he has already handed over his vision for future PlayStation models, along with ideas on how to reduce costs, to the PlayStation design team.

His main vision is based around the idea of a net-based games console. Kutaragi pointed out that the concept of the Cell processor, used in the PS3, is as a network processor. Apparently when the PS3  was developed, the world was not ready for a net-based games console.

Kutaragi now thinks that the time is right. “Why not enter?” he asked.

Well, I can think of a number of good reasons why Sony might not develop a net-based console.

With Sony in a state of malaise over the launch of the PS3, and loosing money on every PS3 sold (and complaining about it), the question Sony has to answer first, is not “what is the future of the PlayStation franchise”, but “does the PlayStation franchise have a future?”

Yes of course their will be a PS4. Period. Ken K has stated it as said in the article, and Kaz Hirai has stated it many times, do you really think Sony arent already working on the successor right now? of course they are, as are Microsoft and Nintendo.
