34 New PS3 Games: Sony Strikes Back!

Sony finally announced plans for the one thing the PS3 has been lacking: new games! They struck fast, announcing 34 PS3 titles coming up in the next year.
Among the upcoming titles are:

One reporter from Bloomberg was fascinated by previews of the upcoming games, and the way they highlighted the detailed gameplay of the PS3. In the upcoming game Heavenly Sword, players can fight over 20 enemies attacking simultaneously, each moving independently. And another upcoming game, SingStar, will play music videos by top artists like U2 and Britney Spears. Players sing along while the game scores them based on how well they matched the tune.
It’s about time. Last year Sony sold 261.3 million games, they announced yesterday. Unfortunately, only 5% of them were for the PS3 — just 13.2 million. Sony expects these new games to boost next year’s income, and predicts they’ll trim their losses by a whopping 80%. Of course, that’s still $414 million — but it’ll be an improvement over the huge $1.9 billion loss they racked up in the last year.
PlayStation 3 sales have been disappointing, and Sony didn’t even meet the expectations for market analysts. But everyone understand why PlayStation 3 sales have been slow: the lack of new games. And now Sony’s given everyone a peek at what’s coming down the pipeline.
Sony’s good news immediately caused a ripple of excitement among investors, who snatched up Sony stock. On a day when the Japanese stock market was down, Sony’s stock jumped 2.6%, reaching a five-year high. That’s especially significant because Sony also announced their biggest quarterly loss in four years

Yeah… the basic games are indeed multi-platform, what means that they are still in the PS3…. but…
…You won’t see LAIR, Heavanly Sword, Litlle Big Planet, warhawk, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, or The Eye of Judgment, etc etc etc…. on any other platform than PS3. So go play your cheap peace of junk with a paying online service and shut-up! Because next year… Killzone, GT5, MGS4, Teken6, SOCOM… LOL. When I want to play a X360 game…. I just plug on my PC!

Lmao…u tell him MK24ever. And Now I do realize that alot of the 360 games are from the PC or are launched alongside PC games. We still have alot of killer exclusives! We all know poor people like pete can’t afford nice things (ex. PS3), so they stick to putting down the system they will never be able to get. Cry on pete…cry on.

Some of those games to be released next year were supposed to come out this year…the problem isn’t the lack of games being developed, its the fact that they get pushed back for months at a time. I am still waiting for the day that the big influx of games currently in development finally comes out…

Most people who talk about money like it’s water to them (*cough* ps3 Wizard) tend to be 16 year olds who’ve never worked a day in their lives, they usually get an allowance from their mom (have I got you right??..is that you).

Heavenly sword & Lair etc are nice exclusive games though, very pretty looking, but most of the games in this 34 “New” game library are multiplatform & at the price that the X360 is sold at, you could use the difference between the 2 console prices to buy an extra 2-3 games

When are peeps going to drop the “XBOX is cheaper, it plays the same games, better deal” argument :: cough TuKindZ :: ? I have friends who have the Xbox, and by the time you add the HD-DVD and the Online subscription, etc., you’re running too close to care and then you still don’t have Bluray (mega oober). Plus, they’ve had to buy multiple 360s cuz they break, yippie… so, STFU. My buddy has both and says PS3 is much better. The games will come… and they will be awesome… and 360 owners will be jealous.

I’d like to see you put games such LAIR, Heavanly Sword or MGS4 in a regular DVD… Sony put a BD drive in PS3 because they wanted a product to last for 10 years wihout having to launch “patch consoles” each year and half (Elite…), if it plays BD movies that’s a better thing, not worse, the truth is that, besides the PS3 cost more money it is in fact cheaper than a X360 because you get MUCH more for what you pay, PS3 has a next-gen optical Drive, a futuristic processor, HDD in all SKUs, a motion sensor controller, free online features, wi-fi built in, blutooth built in, connection with PSP, etc… When I look at what Microsoft has for the money they ask for… I just can’t stop laughinf at how idiots people can be by buing that peace of crap hardware, that old DELL desktop. It has a good online service that you must pay for, Sony can compete with that and in soon they will probably have a has good or better service, graphics they are about on pair in the moment, but after this new PS3 games come out the differece will become bigger and bigger, developers are using about 20%/30% of PS3 capabilities, so in soon Xbox360 won’t be able to do what PS3 will be able to do. I’m 26, I bought PS3 has my probably last video-games investment, and I know my investment will pay off because PS3 is for 10 years of good hardware and software support, not like Xflop’s crap failure obsolete hardware and PC software running on it, appart from Halo3 I think that there is None Xbox360 exclusive that won’t came out for PC…. now… that’s pattetic isn’t it? PS3 is the best investment out there, the better hardware with the better exclusives with the longest life span. If you can’t see that Pete, that’s because you are a dumbass and a Master Chiefe hore. Ohh, of course halo 3 will be on PC in about 6 months after the console release, M$ won’t loose that oportunity to make some more money…

Bluray isn’t all about the HD movies that you don’t want to watch cuz you like SD, but it’s about mega-capacity that is standard to all players and available to all developers working with the system. Two years, you’ll see the difference, and HD will be standard… and if the PS3 did come with a built in coffee maker and sandwich toaster, it would still be more future-proof and even more awesome… and I hate coffee.

I have a friend that worked for sony. His job was debugging broken PS3s and shipping them back to people. Its not a bad system ( all first gen systems have bugs) but they did load the crap out of it with extra hardware that wasn’t needed (blueray, HD-dvd ect) In an effort to cut their huge losses, they’re producing PS3s with the some of the backwards compatibility hardware removed. Since currently, none of the games require blueray, I think they’d be better off removing that and keeping the system FULLY backwards compatible.

Hey Pete, I think part of the problem is that you think Oblivion is a valid point for you… lets see, it has good graphics, but not next-gen graphics. Again, we’re talking future expansion here.
As far as comments from David Jaffe, Gabe Newell… respected comments, but there are other posts from the other camp as well (I’m not posting, just Google ‘em). Again, give it a few years… will the PS3 be obsolete in 10 years? Oh yeah. What piece of hardware/software isn’t? Will it fade slower than most? Very likely. So again, time will settle it… but I got bets on PS3 (and at worse I’m viewing awesome Bluray on it and it’s still a great deal for the $$, bwaaaaaahahaa!).
As for your ‘exlusive’ list… you might want to take out all the titles that are also found on the PC… that defeats the definition of exclusive. Also, just because you have a slew of ‘exclusives’ for a several year old console does not mean they are all worth playing… good lord, man, you listed a Tetris game. Fabulous games like Gears of War are few and far between, while great games like Resistance, Motorstorm, Lair, and Heavenly Sword are all looking to be rock solid, and this is just the first year when coders haven’t unlocked the true force behind the machine. You may want a big dump truck full of crap, but I’ll take a shoe full of gold.

That’s a decent list compared with the “old in market” Xbox360 one… well, there is no way you can even compare them, because the PS3 list has about almost 10 totally exclusive AAA games unlike Xbox360 that has only Halo3 and about two others, the rest will be on PC sooner or later. In two more years I can buy a cheap family PC that runs all that games and the ones that will come in the future for X360 since it has that limited capacity,… thinking better, I’ll probably play on PC with a even better quality that I could on the X360 (I can even use the X360 remote! Lol) and the PC will have more functionalitys that only playing games. Sorry pal, but while I agree that in the moment X360 has more games, I have to allert you that Sony won the last gen consoles war because they don’t only have the best hardware has they also have the best software, PS3 will be no exception.
About you fantastic 96Kb FPS… well… that was fun and it proves nothing. LAIR for example will have full uncompressed 7.1 audio, try to put that in 96Kb, even if you could you would need a powerfull compressor tool, and to decompress the game you would need space to locate the files, so since Xbox360 developers don’t have a HDD on all SKU’s they are doomed, you can’t use a PC game super compressed and that you need to instal in a hard drive with last last gen graphics and sound, and small and all of the same to say that more space isn’t needed for games, just a dinossaur would say that, like Bill Gates said once: “640K ought to be enough for anybody”, than 20Gb would be enough, now they come with a 120Gb hdd and a hold revision HDMI? C’mon… Bluray disc is a smart decision, David Jaffe said he “would’ve taken the Blu-ray [drive] out, sold it for less money.”(only for that purpose), than he admited that Sony was smarter than him and that probably in two or three more years he would have regreted having said that, you are talking about what David said out of context. He didn’t said BD was bad for games or not necessary, he even said that “it probably is the best decision they (Sony) made)”. About Gabe Newell, he is not an hardware expert, he just wanted some attention and his opinion is just that, an isolated opinion given in a time that it was “cool” to bash Sony. PS3 won many hardware prizes about his conception and design. I don’t believe nothing people or companies tell me, I believe in what I see and live, I have a PS2 since 2000, it has now 7 years, it still works as on day one and I’m still buying great games fot it (GOW2 p ex.) now, that is important for me has a consumer, I don’t know if there will be a Wii2 or a X370 in 4 or 5 years from now, if that happens that will just prove that (in the case of X360) it was a bad investment. PS3 might be inferior to those hipothetic X375, but it will still be a good peace of hardware with excelent games. Look at where is Xbox now, or Gamecube…
I’m not from a rich country and I’m not even close to have a economic stable life, so, when I buy something i make it wisely, I bought PS3 not only because it was from Sony, I bought it because I knew it was the best and more advanced and balanced games console I could buy with the best relation price/cost, I have a console that offers me next-gen graphics, free online features, it has a 60Gb to store my family pictures and videos, it has the best available franchises and the best exclusives, I can browse the web with it, I can connect it to my PSP anywhere in the house and access to all the HDD content and more, I have a console with the best video connection possible (HDMI 1.3) that will be usefull when I upgrade my TV and sound system, I can play almost all my PS2 games on it, It has a fantastic controller that only gets better with time, I could keep going and say much more thinhgs why I know PS3 is the best console out there for those who love entertainment and video-games.
I’m sorry if I ofended you calling you dumbass, but when I think about someone who supports a crap product made by an evil company (even if I respect a lot the Gates family by everything they are doing for the poors in Africa), a product that has only a really really good game in more than a year in the market, a product made by a country that loves war and oil more than anything else, a product that has nothing new to offer besides average graphics, a product that is allready having second version of the same and still obsolete (HDMI 1.2?)… I mean… yes, It has a bigger games lybrary (shooters and racing games mostly), but in my opinion that’s only that and in soon PS3 games will crush XPCbox360 games.

The fact of the matter is, right now… there’s not a damn reason to have a Ps3! Okay, maybe there’s one good game out for it right now- Resistance- but that’s about it. And anyone who pays 700 dollars to play 1 game is a fool.
When do Sony’s flagship titles come out? You may toot your horn to Final Fantasy 13, Metal Gear, Kingdom Hearts, etc. But none of those games will be released probably til NEXT holiday season at best! You’ve already lost great exclusives like Assassin’s Creed, Devil May Cry 4, Virtua Fighter, and GTA5 …. that list is sure to grow. There’s already rumors that Metal Gear is the next game to join 360. Wouldn’t that tee off all you ps3 heads? lol

Blu-Ray is the ONLY reason to have a PS3 right now. It certainly isn’t because of the 1 good Ps3 game. Heck, that’s probably why Blu ray has done better the past few months- THERE’S NOTHING ELSE TO DO with the system!!
As for online.. if you’re b*tching about the cost of Xbox Live gold- $50- (and you can always find deals to get it cheaper)- but, you’ve already dropped 800+ dollars for your ps3 with controllers and 1 game (and no HD cables, lol).. then, you’re a moron.

I don’t know what the ps3 guys are talking about. I have played my xbox 360 for hours and hours and sometimes I even just leave it on and go and do something else, and I have never had a problem with mine. My son has even turned it on twice while I was at work, and it was left on for 10 hours in a little enclosed area, and it still works excellent, no problems. You ps3 guys just keep bringing up the problems they had when they shipped the first shipment. Everybody I know who has gotten one after that has had no problems.

Hey fellas Ive always loved playstation, but this is a royal joke. It would have to be one of the crappist game release list of all time. Its like having a porche in the garage with no fuel in it. I just got timeshift played it for 40 mins then took it back. Graphics were crap, game play average. It looked like something you would get on ps2. Im not saying there are no good games cause there are some awesome ones, assassins creed and call of duty 4. But you sony losers, just release some games, we shouldnt have to wait 2 months for the next decent game to come out.

Taking it from the Wii, which released a ton of crappy games but earned a lot of money, 34 new games for the PS3 could be both a blessing and a curse. The only real “games” out there (for any console) are Wii Sports, Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and Resistance. The majority of the others are at best ok games. (Assassin’s Creed, Oblivion, Gears of War) The PS3 has the best position over the 360- Blu-ray support, and Microsoft is stupid to still be supporting the HD-DVD format.
However, taking the lesson from the Wii, just because there are a lot of games does not mean they are going to be good. How many people remember “Aeon Flux”, “24″ and “Viva Pinata”? They’re out there, but they are being sold for 10 bucks at the GameStop nearest you.
Getting back to PS3 and Blu-Ray support, the HD capability is still not enough to want to get it badly. Most homes have only one (if any) HDTVs, and most computers that cost a reasonable price can’t play either format. SD is still the major format out there because it can be played on the bedroom TV, the Mac laptop, and the Honda Odyssey DVD screen. Until the format war truly “ends,” we won’t be seeing much affordable HD support, especially since HDTVs aren’t mainstream yet.
When it comes to the PS3, I have no ax to grind. My parents got me an Xbox four years ago for my birthday and we naturally advanced to the 360, and my sister got a Wii. I’ve had plenty experience with the PS3, but it just echoes Sega’s final gasp at a console.

PS3 could prevail the battle with Microsoft and Nintendo. They are going to have more awesome games coming out. Also, they just won the battle with Toshiba and now are the prime High Def dvd player. Things are looking good for Sony.

Well, after all this bickering, it’s only obvious PS3 is the clear winner this year, and will be forever. WII is good, but not great…XBOX360, if you have that, I feel sorry for you. Blu-Ray is taking over, and Sony won already…

Xbox 360 owners are on denial thinking Xbox 360 will live until 2009 with no decent exclusives and no reliability. PLAYSTATION 3 will destroy any Xbox 360 game MGS4 and GT5, Resistance 2, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, and many more high profile exclusives plus HOME (free) launches this year to destroy Xbox Live cheating lagging service pricey also..
