Wii trounces PS3 and Xbox 360 in the US, again

Look away PlayStation 3 (PS3) fans, what you’re about to read will not bring you joy. The latest sales figures from the NPD Group show that the Nintendo Wii outsold the PS3 four to one in the US market in April.
April was the fourth consecutive month where Nintendo dominated next-generation console hardware sales in the US, with the Wii selling 360,000 units, compared to 174,000 Xbox 360s, and just 82,000 PS3s.
Wii also did well in the software charts, with Super Paper Mario coming in at number one, with 352,000 units sold, and Wii Play With Remote, coming in at number two, with 249,000 units sold. Guitar Hero II for the Xbox 360 came third with 197,000 units sold.
Despite some analysts predicting the the PS3 will take off in 2008, it’s getting harder to see this happening.
With Wii continuing to dominate both the hardware and software charts (in the US and Japan), it’s becoming less attractive for games developers to develop games for the PS3.
With fewer games, the PS3 becomes less attractive to gamers, which means that less hardware will be sold (hardware superiority means nothing if there aren’t enough games to show it off).
Let’s hope that the analysts are right, and that the PS3 makes a comeback next year. Otherwise it looks like this round of the console war will be dominated by Nintendo.

Average Joe gamer as no clue what going on. Everyone look at games when buying a console, but how long will that last when hardware falls short? Until game developer get better hardware, with cheap Dell/Hp workstation/servers that company gives them and less man hour being put into games. We wont see anything matches output of the PS3. Yes Wii is good console because developer hardware as more output than console. Only time I bought console because of the game, was the GameCube for Starfox line up. From that I think PS3 will win in the long run because it as output, Cell CPU is powerful processor and there no single die CPU that matches it. Only way developer will watch that power, is to get hardware with Cell CPU as IBM starting to make or buy super pricey computer like Sgi/Sun that can feed pipeline in game development. I can tell you not many company will spend $,$$$,$$$ in just hardware. On that note: learn better OS, MS is not going to make good games, UNIX and Linux will, I know this first hand ~winks~ my personal desktop is Sgi Fuel with V12… Proud Owner of PS3, PSP, PS2, GC, N64, Sgi, Sun, and AMD base hardware.

im just wondering why John Pospisil, is saying Wii is the best?!??!?!, u cant compare with the ps3 cause of its late release and in long run ps3 will dominate, why cause its built to last for along time with its high technology.
Wii does not include blutooth, nor does it have usb ports that enable u to connect accessories such as keyboard and mouse. It doesnt have expandable HDD, ps3 is able to obtain the latest which is about 750GB + for future games to increase the game performance and sore huge amounts of saved games. The Wii does not have great exclusives such as singstar, eye judgement, heavenly sword, MGS4 and HOME. The Wii will not be able to compete with these when these get released. Blu ray of course holds at least 50GB so better game experience (FULL HD experience 1080p). and u say its about the game play right? well then its surely the PS3 FTW then not the Wii or Xbox360

Hmm Sony made big mistake with 1080dpi games, because video card in there still 86x architecture. There no GL code commands being sent to GPU from OS it self, it all done in kernel. Right now PS3 video card set up like this: hardware, firmware, assembler, kernel, and operating system. It should be 64x architecture: hardware(hardware firmware), assembler, and operating system, but because of cost in hardware node base Cell CPU dose all tie link for GPU, which save PS3 from lagging in high res video. Why do you think AMD went and took over ATI. CPU, GPU and Chip Set should all be one system with lot over head bus.
In time we will have people hacking PS3 to push it to it limit, right now price of it too much to touch. Like buying $$,$$$ workstation, you don’t dare even open it up. PS3 can make good desktop computer too, it can run Linux commands…
Xbox 360 is PC!! Nothing better than buying Dell or Hp gaming setup, which if you knew PC stand for “personal computer” which IBM started. So Wii and PS3 will win, Wii something I would buy if Starfox game show on it, but I like hardware more than games. So PS3 something I would take hands down like buying Sun or Sgi computer it custom made computer. Part in there were engineer just for that task. Even so less and less custom engineer computer are being made. It come down to cost.. ~sigh~

Many reader emphasize the importance of the hardware. I think this is why PS3 is losing the battle to wii. PS3 maybe a good GAME console some hardcore gamer. But wii is a better ENTERTAINMENT console for families. It open up a brand new market. I saw many families that usually don’t play game are now enjoy the wii as family activity now. The reason I will buy a PS3 is 1) I can not find a wii. 2} it is cheaper BR player.

1 out of 100 know what UNIX is, grr entertainment all they see out of these console. Importance of hardware is very true, I would take hardware raid over software raid. So next step is to get some good game for PS3 or as people got so lazy that making good game is too much work
Ohh yes just one side note: meaning of “Video Game” is a Graphical interaction user interface. All I hear from gamers these days that graphic not good or why can’t games look like movie CG… suff like that. If you want graphic, go with PS3 and if you want good user interface go with Wii. If you want both get a PC

XBox360 - Market - Hard Core Gamers
Wii - Market - Kids, Teens, Drunk Adults, Parents
Which one has the largest core market.
No parent of any kid under-15 is going to get a $400-600 machine to play super death games and shooters and fighting games for their kid.
They will go and get a Wii that everybody wants to play. Smaller installed price. Family friendly games. They don’t care about SUPER REALISTIC GRAPHICS SO YOU CAN SEE THE BLOOD SPLATTER ON THE SCREEN IN 1080P.
They see … $250 … hmm .. games like Mario Kart, Mario Party … ya … Sony go ahead and keep your machine.
