Wii beats PS3? 14 new Wii games!

May 23, 2007

Last week Sony announced 34 new PS3 games for the upcoming year. This week Nintendo struck back, announcing they’d release 14 new titles within the next seven months.

That’s an an average of two new Wii games each month through December. And Nintendo also announced they’d release another 36 Nintendo DS games before September.

The upcoming Wii titles are:

Mario Strikers Charged July 30
Metroid Prime 3 Corruption August 20
Battalion Wars 2 September
High School Musical: Sing It! August 14
Madden NFL ‘08 August 14
Tiger Woods PGA Tour ‘08 August
Space Station Tycoon August
Brunswick Pro Bowling August
Dave Mirra BMX Challenge August
Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection September
Brothers in Arms September
Looney Tunes: Acme Arsenal September
George of the Jungle September
Boogie Fall

Titles in bold will be produced by Nintendo

Nintendo bragged that “there’s something for everyone,” including a new version of its popular Metroid Prime shooter game, and Mario Strikers Charged.

In Mario’s new soccer game, the iron ball can split into five balls, leaving the defending goalie to zap all five balls in the air (which is accomplished using the Wii Remote). And Mario is also getting ready to rumble again in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Though a release date hasn’t been announced, Wednesday new images of Mario fighting were posted to the game’s official site.

The 36 new games for the Nintendo DS means that through September Nintendo will also be averaging about two new games every week for the NDS platform.

The upcoming Nintendo DS titles are:

Picross DS July 30
Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day Aug. 20
DK Jungle Climber Sept. 10
Chibi-Robo: Park Patrol Sept. 24

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trials and Tribulations September
Looney Tunes: Duck Amuck September
Pet Luv Spa & Resort Tycoon September
Animal Genius September

The list proves the conventional wisdom — that the war of the consoles will be won with games.

And it also proves that Nintendo is taking the challenge very seriously…

  1. sad lol:

That is one hell of a shoddy lineup lol…im sorry, but how can you be a Nintendo fan…it’s sad lol.

I’ll be sticking to my 34+ PS3 games, anyone of which is better then:

    (all of the above).

    Lol.

    agreed

  3. NBeaforelock:

Well, that list doesn’t show all of the Wii’s games for the next 7months in all fairness – smash bros, manhunt2, RE4-wii, No More Heroes, The Bigs, GHIII, FIFA08, Super Mario Galaxy…and a few others I can’t remember.

The subset of the PS3’s games they showed:

    SingStar
    Heavenly Sword
    Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
    Madden NFL 08
    Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas
    Grand Theft Auto IV
    Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway
    Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Double Agent
    The Bigs
    NCAA Football 2008
    Timeshift PS3
    Assassin’s Creed
    The Darkness
    Lair
    All Pro Football 2K8

Well, there are…well…I’m getting Sigma and Lair (maybe). Rainbow Six Vegas is a great game but have it already on the 360, Assassin’s Creed…we’ll have to wait and see, The Bigs – most likely the Wii version for me…no real system sellers there for the PS3. But dammit, Sigma can’t come fast enough…I’m tired of playing that demo over and over again.

Have faith in the big N.

  5. JB:

That line-up definitely does not do Nintendo’s upcoming releases justice. That list sucks. It does not hold a candle to Sony Gamer’s Day.

Even with the “right” list, the PS3 has an upcoming line-up anyone would love to have.

  6. shadonin:

The ps3 dosen’t have any thig paticualy good that is a exclusive. Every one is underestimating Super Mario Galxy(not on list) it can apeal to every one that is if your not to stuck up to try it because it is so main stream it coul esaly out sell halo

  7. ANdy:

  8. Daniel:

The ps3 sucks, there are no cool games for it.

Dude buy a wii and see what’s really fun to play.

    Nintendo rocks!!!!!!!

  9. teddy ruxpin:

i have a ps3 and all it does is play movies. thats all its good for. all the games available for it that are good are also on the 360. the ps3 is a waste of money. the wii and 360 are better

  10. Magoo:

Yaawwn. If I want to bowl, play tennis, flip an egg. I’ll do it in reality, not virtual reality. Boring. Wii is a novelty fad. Bought by fools, played by idiots. Cheap tat. Not worth the PCB’s it’s printed on.

  11. Nin4ever14:

To be truthful those so called “fools” buying the wii and idiots playing the wii *I myself play on the Wii are not as foolish as those who spend 793 dollars (400 GBP (pounds) on a gaming console which just has the same functionality of a desktop pc which could cost less but have more functionality to it. What Nintendo are doing is something totally different, and yes its much more cheaper and it has an excellent hardware build to it, i wonder if the people who are purchasing the wii agree is the wii is a novelty fad because i dont think they do.

  12. GroverFD:

Yeah.. thats why Nintendos release list looks so good. Geez.. sad N Fans cant get over the fact that it has limited technology, and thus limited lifespan. Ever wonder why Nintendo is building a Cell based successor? I think thats called irony.. The Wii is a ’stop gap’ for Nintendo, they know their fans will buy it because it s cheap (and the GC died very quickly, so their fanbase was eager to purchase).

What Nintendo have is IP. Thats about it. They have Mario.. Pokemon.. and Zelda to drive their traditional ‘E for Everyone’ audience. However like people found on the GC, IP doesn’t go a long way.. and neither does limited technology. Watch where Wii sales will be this time next year.. I think the PS3 and Wii will have changed places.

  13. yo mama:

if u think wii is bad ur a beep hell

  14. Jamster:

Those saying the Wii is a fad, most likely havent played any (many) games on the console. After coming from other consoles the Wii was my first Nintendo console & its awesome. My best friend & i both sold our Xbox’s after we got our Wii, as we never played the MS console. The Wii is so much more fun, the motion control is simply great!

With some more great Wii games coming & many more independant developers producing for the it,
the Wii will have as long a life as either the Xbox or PS3.

The Wii is simply the most fun system & thats what counts. I play, my younger cousins play & even my parents play it. Goes to show how universally fun the Wii is & why it will last a long time.

  15. Onyx Leo:

Cool! Google dug up an old post….

Any way, all I can do is laugh at all the people who said the Wii would be dead, and the PS3 would be on top by now. XD

New Zelda, Mario, Pikmin, and Animal crossing games coming. Sakurai also said that if Nintendo asked him to make another smash game he would “give it some serious thought” So…Yeah, I don’t see this “fad” ending any time soon.
