Microsoft’s XBox 360 secret: failure rates?

May 31, 2007

Microsoft's XBox secret: failure rates?Extremely high failure rates are being suggested for the XBox 360. Last week 360 Gamer reported over 4,469 XBox owners responded to their online survey — and over 62.5% of them have now reported a defective XBox. Over 22% even reported that they’d had more than one console fail on them.

The survey is unscientific, since angry XBox owners would be more motivated to respond than satisfied owners. (And it’s first question is “How many 360s have you had die on you” — which could be said to introduce a bias.) But there have already been anecdotal reports of customers who received a series of defective units. In February the San Jose Mercury News reported on a true XBox fan who went through seven units.

Four were bought on the day the system launched in 2005. But other unhappy XBox owners found their way to the story and left comments with similar stories.

“I am on Xbox 360 console #3.”

“I am waiting for my 4th 360 to come back from service.”

“I fully expect to be on console #5 within 6 months as screwy things are starting to happen with console #4.”

“im on console number 6 in almost a years time”

It’s prompted an investigation by a British newspaper, The Guardian, which asked a big console retailer for their failure rates. They were told “That’s not information we’re able to give out” because it’s “commercially sensitive.” But the paper got more information from a third-party repair agent, who acknowledged that the XBox can overheat — either because of weak fans or just bad soldering.

Microsoft reponded that “there is not a single root cause or systemic issue,” saying rather that many things could be reponsibile. But earlier this month, Microsoft’s Vice President of Entertainment, Peter Moore, was called out in Silicon Valley during an online interview with the San Jose Mercury News.

“I’d like a straight answer on issues with hardware quality…” one reader demanded angrily, saying twice in the last 7 month they’d received a defective XBox, and speculating that the failure rate was higher. Moore’s answer?

“I can’t comment on failure rates, because it’s just not something — it’s a moving target.”

That’s certainly true. In December of 2005, Microsoft famously reported that the failure rate for XBox’s was no more than 3%. But that’s since crept up to a “4-5%” failure rate. This left one obvious question.

“18 months later shouldn’t such issues be resolved?” the British newspaper asked.

And their conclusion?

“Nobody we spoke to seems confident.”

my launch 360 still works like a champ. i also have an elite that i haven’t had a single problem with. i know at least 15 people with 360’s and only one of them have had any trouble. i think the problem is a very vocal minority of people that have had problems and ,thanks to the internet, it gets a lot more attention than is warranted.

[...] It seems that Microsoft can’t catch a break these days what with Vista still failing miserably and apparently so are XBOX 360’s. Now don’t get me wrong, I own a XBOX 360 and I’ve had it for about a year with ZERO issues. There are those XBOX 360 owners that are perfectly happy (like me) and there are others who have gone through five or six units and even then all their issues are not fixed. We’ve talked about that before. And now, the Netherlands and the European Commissioner for Consumer affairs wants answers and wants them now. [...]

  10. Nathan:

Steve, yeah sure. If you’re going to make stuff up to do damage control for Microsoft at least try to make it believable…

Microsoft has to be spending HUGE amounts of cash to keep this fiasco off the gaming press sites. I’ve been a console owner going all the way back to the 2600 days and I’ve NEVER had a console fail or die. The worst things that ever happened were after six years my launch PS2 had to have the laser nob turned slightly to read the new dual layer DVDs and my still functioning NES takes a couple tries to get a cart to work sometimes.

As far as anyone can tell there is no fix for the 9.5 million 360s out there. They will continue to fail over and over again due to heat warping the board and causing the chips to lose contact and RRoD the system.

Microsoft really should just give up on the console market and go back to pc gaming. The 360 is selling worse than the first Xbox and it is really only former Xbox owners in the US who are willing to buy the system.

  11. Hoov:

My 360 is from launch- never had 1 problem. The worst console ever has to be the Ps2.. how many don’t read blue bottom discs, or don’t read DVD’s.. or don’t read at all? I had 3 Ps2’s so far.

Gamecube was the most reliable last generation.

  12. Nathan:

“The worst console ever has to be the Ps2.. how many don’t read blue bottom discs, or don’t read DVD’s.. or don’t read at all? I had 3 Ps2’s so far.”

    Oh please…

There are 115 million PS2s out there and all of a sudden seven years after the console hit the market when the 360 hardware defects stories hit the Net Xbox fans start spouting BS about how they went through multiple PS2s.

No wonder the gaming can’t stand Microsoft, the Xbox/360, and its fans.

Just had my launch 360 die. MS says it’ll be $200 please to repair? WTF?!! I eplained to the consultant that this is extortion, my XBOX is 14 months old (i.e. 2 months out of warranty) and now I have to pay $200. What happens if in another 14 months the same thing happens? Also, I have $2,500 worth of games and accesories (wheel, controllers, camera, headset, etc etc) that are now worthless! Factor in the $200 a year of service costs when contemplating buying a 360!

  15. abb3w:

Back of the envelope (and Google Calculator) and assuming a random distribution of defects, then in order to have a fifty-fifty chance of one customer in 10 million get seven bad consoles in a row, you’d need to have 1 in 10 failing. This means someone needs to be taken out and shot: either there are specific batches being distributed with non-random high concentrations of lemons, or the overall defect rate is monstrous — perhaps enough fit the whole product line under some state’s lemon law for a general recall?

Another one bytes the dust. Found your board/blog thingy while looking up error codes for the
    360.

Brother in law playing tomb raider on my console. Ambient temperature 24 Celsius (a bit over room
temperature.) RROD System purchased Mid- March 2007. Less than 3 months old.

Also… Frequent errors while reading disks, and EXCESSIVE NOISE produced while reading disks.
Elder Scrolls IV Has crashed several times with read errors. Then miraculously works.

(I’ve exchanged the disk several times.) Tried taking the console back. EB Games, Canada is now
implementing a 7 day exchange on consoles.

Also… Forced to format entire storage medium to repair a corrupt Elder Scrolls Install. Console
will not allow me to remove “Game or system data” … –Could you imagine what this will do to
hard disks in the long run, every game wants to download something, then you cant get rid of it.
HDD are small! If you know how to fix these things, I wouldn’t mind an answer.

    Why did I buy a 360? AGHHHH!!

When I saw that GEARS of WAR commercial I thought, cool. 6 Months later I bought the console. PS3
didn’t launch with much, and I wanted a next gen console. 360 Seemed mature. GOW, Halo 3, Forza
2, GRAW, Oblivion, Dead Rising. Titles sold me. Also having a media center style device, would be
nice. Playing online games would be cool 2.

I like the games, I don’t like what this console is being used to accomplish. I’m unhappy, with
the system, because its a money pit. The primary goal of of the 360 is to make everyone else
money. It feels like a coin-op arcade game, in my room. the system can, and only will do X,Y,Z,
and only if pay for it. From the text on the consoles box, I had the impression that XBOX live
Silver was cool. You can’t even play multilayer games over a TCP-IP connection without paying a
fee. I’m used to gaming online, for free. Why does it cost money now? Because the MMORPG maker
could get away with it? What does XBox Live Gold do? I had it for a month… Does anyone else
feel like Dashboard is about getting people to buy stuff. WTF? I shelled out $650 already, what
do I get for that? What about the video components, what if I want to put my movies on the 360.
Well it can stream files from certain PC’s…. Using a piece of software that will only work for
XP media center or Vista, and then the files that it can stream are in an obscure WMV WMA format.
Does it do MPEG, MPEG2, you can stream DIVX if you can transcode (or whatever) the file into WMV,
but only if you buy Vista or Media Center Edition and download some other stuff. Remember
starcraft, quake2, quake3, war2, war3, halflife, unreal tournament. Remember installing spawns in
Starcraft so your friends could network and play without buying N licenses. And why does a
Wireless G card cost $150 I have several USB Wifi adapters gathering moss, in fact I bought them
for $20 – $35 each. My 360 has several usb ports, every time I look at them, I get a little
annoyed, I should be able to use SD cards and portable flash drives or USB devices to save games
on. I had to buy a bogus 20 gig hard disk, that I can only interact with through the 360’s
interface. A month later they announce that they are releasing a new one. After dealing with the
initial disappointment regarding the restrictions enforced on the console, I think to myself, oh
well, at least I can enjoy some hassle free gaming. I play through Call of Duty 3, and GRAW. I
spend a 300 hours+ in Oblivion, lets face it after spending that much on the console, what else
can you afford to do? I move, from my basement suite. I’m in an apartment building. Temperature
goes from 19-20c (a bit cold) to 23-26c(warm). A few days of playing in that environment, and
dead. No warning, just cuts out and dead.

Hmm. Seems to be working again…

Downloadable content for 360 is evil. You pay premium price, always. You can’t lend things to
friends, you cant trade games, and most of it, are things you would traditionaly get for free.
They have to do better than what they are doing. They save so MUCH money by making it
downloadable. WHY DO I PAY the price for inferior stuff! Elder Scrolls Expansion!!!!!!!!!!! I
like maps, disks, and pretty boxes. XBOX 360’s Shivering Isles, costs more than the PC version’s.
What does it cost, 2400 Live Arcade Points. $40+ Canadian. – $38 USD if purchased in Canada. No
    deals, no sales, no bargains.

Also… Forced to format entire storage medium to repair a corrupt Elder Scrolls Install. Losing
150 hours of game data. Console will not allow me to remove “Game files (not talking about
saves.) or system data” … –Could you imagine what this will do to hard disks in the long run,
every game wants to download something, then you cant get rid of it. HDD are small! If you know
how to fix these things, I wouldn’t mind an answer.

5% Failure rate. If that’s true, I’m one in twenty. I think it’s higher. 5% failure is CRAZY HIGH
    ALREADY!
The only reason to buy a console is HASSLE FREE GAMING!

Clearly it needed a bigger case with more air circulation, fans, better heatsinks. The console is
to heavy for it’s size, to dense and full of heat producing electronics. Like a brick with a few
thousand meters of traces, interlaced with IC’s diodes and billions of transistors switching back
and fourth at several billion times a second. The system is solid, for it’s size. If you have
never picked one up, you will be surprised, it must weigh ten pounds.

How well do your original xbox games play on the 360. I’m going through KOTOR. Sound cuts out,
controls don’t work… Triggers don’t cycle through targets all the time. All the compatibility
problems one would expect with such a radical deviation in architectures from its predecessor.
They need to be careful when they advertise that the 360 can play xbox games. KOTOR Required an
update just to load the game. It’s playable, but I would rather get the PC version.
Unfortunately, I spent money on the XBOX edition, which is pretty much useless.

I don’t think MS wants used Xbox 360’s competing with sales for new consoles. With a failure rate
that high, its not going to be a problem.

I think blame rests with the consumer. We bought it, we allowed it. If you have an Xbox 360,
think about what I’m saying. If we didn’t buy it. They would have to do better, or someone else
would, and Halo, Oblivion, or Forza would run on that console.

The only thing I like about my 360 is that it plays games, well DVD video too. In every other
category, it kind of ticks me off.

Now people realize that Microsoft is very sneaky about making money. $200 Canadian for the HD DVD drive. $50 Canadian for online per year.

I agree the 360 has the games advantage but wait until fall and the PS3 will really shine.

    http://www.playb3yond.com

  22. PaulK:

While i agree with the (many) complaints about the poor build quality of the 360, Microsoft are happy to sit on their arses doing sweet f.a. about it because people still want the console to be able to play the great exclusive games that the system gets! PS3 may catch up a little in the fall, after the multiple job cuts in the US to save a bit of expenditure, but 360 owners (well, those still with working consoles) will still have it sweeet playing Halo3 and Fable 2.
Still, bloody extortionate asking for £40 a year for Live Gold membership, another £60 if you want a wireless connection (i echo smurf’s comments about the misery of having all those USB ports that you can do practically zip with!), and then the ‘maintenance costs’ on top of that if (or, seemingly, when) your console dies!

    Sort it out Bill.

  23. Gzmoe:

What do I do? THey sent me a new power supply after a month and a half of giving me the run around. Heres my story:

Have had a 360 since december 06, works fine until about partway through april. All of a sudden, 3 red lights. They tell me I need to send in the power supply. Ok, fine, I fedex that shit to them, no problem. I pay for it myself as a show of good faith. I get my return package, it’s a power supply designed for a grounded, 3 pronged cord, yet they send me a 2 pronged style cord for hooking it up to the wall. I’m stunned. I call them, they “can’t believe this happened”. Long story short they sent me 3 more two pronged cords before finally getting it right.

Oh, and 2 days after the xbox working, it gets three red lights..I’m very disappointed with this system, I just want to get rid of it and get my money back, it’s been nothing but a headache. I invest money in it to make it better and it fails. Does anyone have any advice?

  24. Gzmoe:

to make matters worse, a game is stuck in the drive, Elder Scrolls 4 from BLOCKBUSTER. It’s not even mine, now I’m going to have to pay for that, it’s all beyond our control. MS has complete control over the situation, they are fucking with my by sending me so many of those cords, it’s completely insulting dealing with this company. I am not even actually calling them when I call 1-800-4my-xbox, it’s some call center halfway around the world, they don’t give a shit about my xbox. Microsoft doesn’t give one shit about my xbox or your xbox, they are selling us bum technology wrapped up in a plastic case for 400 bones, you think you’re going to be enjoying your game when it just cuts out for no foreseeable reason. No one knows how to fix these things. I would be scared to open it up, they will honor even less of their pitifully short warranty. Dispicable customer service practices, I say we all bring our xboxes to Ft. McAllen, Texas and demand refunds, and not leave until we get it. Total horseshit system, the Japanese have it locked down on console gaming, no one would be popping boners over Halo if it weren’t for mario jumping his ass all over your tv back in 85. go play some paintball if you want to fake shoot someone, I’ve had more fun playing Formula 1 on ps3 at EB games then any 360 game I’ve played so far. GoW gets boring so quick, it’s like watching a good action flick but pretty soon you’re ready to move on to something else. PS3 looking nicer and nicer everyday, and i’m sure that price will drop soon before they offer a new version of it. fuck MS makin that 360 elite just to tease their customers even more.

  25. Gzmoe:

when I call up im not referring to it as my xbox anymore. I’m going to tell them “your xbox is failing” because it is their mistake for making it crappy, not my mistake for buying one. dont let them fool you into thinking you’re wrong for being pissed about this.

  26. Tray:

The problem is poor positioning of the cpu and gpu, poor fans, and cheap parts. these problems are easy to fix even by a normal person, and would cost next to NOTHING to do so. microsoft has done this on purpose to get everyones money. There is no way that they didn’t notice these major problems, they’ve literally created the sytem to break overtime. I have lost all respect for microsoft and i hope they get sued blind. Visit this link for details: http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=588032
and this info is coming from a profesional.

  27. Gzmoe:

once i figured out all i needed to so was rest my power supply on a stack of books I felt stupid for all the things I posted earlier, but still think there’s some validity in what I wrote.

Either way, they are still very unhelpful with their customer service, and their machine is very finicky about location, and the power brick is out of control.

  31. JAHNKMAN:

Well, MS is sending me back my 4th 360. I have had the 360 for about 14 months and had to have it repaired 3 times. The first 2 times I was very pleased with Microsoft’s response. The day they received my broken 360 they had another one shipped back to me. However, this third time has been a little different.

First of all, I treat the 360 like a baby. The 360 sits horizontal and nothing is under or on top of it. There is plenty of ventilation. I do not have little children banging it or dogs that knock it around. The only thing I am guilty of is playing it. Now, I probably use the 360 more than I have ever used another console before. But that is because this is my first true multi-media system. I use it for games, movies, and a jukebox through my computer in the other room. I like to consider myself a pretty educated gamer as I have owned the Atari, NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, XBOX, Xbox360, and the Wii. Of all those systems the 360 is the only one I have ever had issues with.

It took MS 20 days to process my 360, repair it, and send it back to me (haven’t received it yet). Now, I would not have been upset except for the fact that they never told me they were going to do that. Why could they not just send me a new one like they did before? The other irritating thing is when you call their Customer Support; you might as well be talking to a wall, because they don’t know anything. Their response for everything is that another department is handling my 360 (i.e. Service) and they don’t have any status of what is going on. Why can’t the departments talk to each other? Should not the whole repair/customer service process be integrated to provide the customer with the best data possible?

I just wish MS could fix this problem because I truly do love the 360. I believe it has the best games compared to other consoles. Come on MS, I know you are tired of repairing these things; just fix them once and for all.

  32. Franco Martinez:

Mine finally died last week; yes the “Rings-of-Death” syndrome, come to find out I was lucky (unlucky…) enough that my FEB/06 360 didn’t die till JUN/07….oh shucks; no warranty left.

The unit had been malfunctioning/locking-up since the fall 2006 update was applied last year. Now M$ wants $140 to “repair” a product purchased last year for over $400, just so they can “fix” a design/manufacturing defect that should have been addresses long time ago!?!? As a long time MS/XBOX supporter I can not help but to feel betrayed, VERY BETRAYED!!!

I find it amazing that MS so far has gotten away with pulling the wool over everyones eyes, as far as they are concerned this is “a non-issue”, we really NEED someone to initiate a class action lawsuit!

  33. Abysal:

I’ve been a hardcore PC gamer for the last 14 yrs or so, I’ve only dabbled in console gaming (NES, Genesis, PS and recently the Wii). I found that I enjoyed playing Zelda on the Wii and I thought I was ready to venture out and get the next-gen console (ie: 360 or PS3).

After a bunch of comparisons between the two I found that the 360 had more games and the 360 Elite just came out (I wanted HDMI). So I did some more research about the 360, and to my dismay this site is one of many that discuss high failure rates / problems on the 360s. So I guess I will hold on to my money and continue PC gaming.

The 360’s are said to get a 65nm CPU / GPU (which should prevent the mobo warping due to heat) this fall. Maybe then if the PS3 is still lacking in the games department I’ll consider looking at the 360 again, thats assuming I can tell by model or SKU if it has the new 65nm chips.

  34. notty:

i im still waiting form my second console to arrive MS HAVE HAD THIS ONE FOR 5 WEEKS NOW ! no one at customer support can tell me when its going to arrive feel totally deflated about the whole bloody thing. of 4 work collegues who own a 360 in work 2 are on their 3rd console and 2 are on thier second is this just bad luck in wales or is the 360 a pile of shit. i personally think the multi billion corp should invest in sorting these issues out there should def be a lawsuit going on somewhere where we can all express our feelings and give BG a right smack in the face

  35. BocaRican:

Theres alot of repeat posts in here and you can tell that some people are changing their handles, just to piss people off. Don’t get me wrong I reconize that the 360 is’nt perfect, but with the combination of unsatisfied customers creating multible posts & Sony Fanboys adding there two cents I just can’t believe the failure rate is that high. I just gave my younger brother my launch console & I purchased my second 360 (elite) about 2-3 months ago and i’ve yet to see any problems whatsoever. But I must emit that I did purchase those aftermarket fans that may be helping the situation.

  36. smart gamer:

If you want to know the truth about microsoft’s xbox 360, read this artical. My xbox 360 has crashed once, yes just like everyone elses the three red flashing lights after about 4 months. But, its not always the console. The outlet is usually just unstable or just oddly not a good one. You should try playing it plugged into other outlets before you send it back to texas were they so called “repair it”. Because i have a friend in the buisness dwon their that says they’ll just send it right back to you. and dont but an xbox 360 elite thinking it is better, because all it really does is give you more hardrive.

  37. Tgamer:

Yeah, i hear your comments and didnt think it would happen to me, but bang only last night , 11 month on, the ring of death rears its dam ugly head. tried and get my money back instead of a full replacement. As far as im concerned why have a replacement if it almost certain that its gonna happen again. S****w that!!! Ive gone to trading standards (UK) and they say electrical products of this type should last at leat 6 years! not 4 months as i heard in some of your comments. Its totally unacceptable. My case is still being looked at (need to allow for 7day period). Maybe they want me to cool off and accept another replacement. Ive totally gone off Microsoft,in future will only consider purchasing with them as a totally last resort….then maybe not….just go without.

Dont know about anyone else, but i wished i had waited for the P3 instead. Yeah the games may not be the best at present, but im sure this will almost certainly change in time. Youve got to admit, the Japenese know what theyre doing when it comes to designingn all round RELIABLE gaming package. and for our hard earned cash we dam well deserve it!!! Some heads should roll with this 360 fiasco!!! Good luck with your 360’s everyone.

  38. angry gamer:

Now I’ve been wanting an Xbox360 for the longest. I’ve read constant failure stories and have a friend who just bought an xbox360 last week strictly for Madden ‘08 and his Xbox died yesterday, terrible system. How come this system is the only system that has to have super special care taken to it and then it still might die!?

My Intellevision (look it up) STILL RUNS TO THIS DAY! My Sega Genesis has been through hell and back and it still plays games. Why is this 360 system so horrible? I really want one for Gears Of War and Madden but jesus man, what the heck is wrong with Microsoft?

  39. Gold member:

You guys are totally right, I bought my first xbox in january 2007 (gears of war pack) and it died the first day. My brother also bought one in June and his started to act “funny” three or four days later. I was REALLY disappointed, didnt want a replacement and got my money back. Since for us here in Europe we had to wait till april for the ps3 it was that much harder, and it only got worse the ps3 was even more expensive and the games werent that much compared to the 360 (and still are).

But microsoft really doesnt leave you much choice, so I bought a PS3 and its great, my PS2 has been around for +/- 5 years without problems even after hardcore gaming&dvd 24/7. I think the PS3 will prove to be a worthy successor to that kinda quality :)

    SCREW MICROSOFT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  40. JR:

Power supply is dead about 20 hours out of the box. Should have bought a PS3…

  42. Ben Price:

In my experience the 360 failure rate has been 100%. I bought my console on launch night and have since had to mail it in 5 times. The 4th time happened the night before halo 3, a game I’ve had reserved for 2 years now. I got my xbox back a month later and was able to play it for a week before it died on me again. I just sent it out for the 5th time today. It’s ridiculous and I definitley plan on selling my stuff on EBay so I can get a PS3. but like I said, I’ve never been givin a system that can work for any consistent period. It’s not like I treat them badly either. I work at Family Video and it’s my job to maintain systems, games, and movies. Even with my knowledge, I’ve had a 360 failure rate of 100%

  43. Rick:

Ive owned 2 360″s in a one years time, both tanked.
    I still own a ps2 from close to it’s launch day,still works,always works, play’s anything from ps1 and all of ps2 library.Just bought a ps3 and I am VERY
happy with it,I will never purchase another microsoft product.Someone should start a class action against microsoft for it’s sale of defective product, would anyone put up with a t.v. ,stereo, microwave, etc. that had performance and reliability issue’s such as this,Hell no there would be governmental and consumer union inquiry’s into it,the problem is that microsoft is closely connected with the government and for that reason nobody is going to rock that strange bedfellow “boat”.
    Just my thoughts.

  44. urallfullovshitandneed2getalife:

have u lot heard ur self’s ur all sad pethetic excuses for humans whining about games consoles a debating this and that,ow it over heats cos the bullbollok reaction screw heats up to much and couses the analpipetube to meltdown get a life, get a real gun, get laid u bunch of losers who gives a f*@k.and yeah iv got a 360elite and i love it no probs wotsoever but theres other things in life a lot more important than games consoles and Gzmoe 300 hours of wot game dude getta job

  45. Rick:

    RE:urallfullovshitandneed2getalife,
You are obviously of such high intelligence that you have invented a new language,…let’s call it….oh…hmmm….I’ve got it!,hickus-inbredus,yes fits rather well, yes perfect.
You and the xbxox 360 share something in common, a high failure rate, customer dissatisfaction and poor performance,I doubt that, like the 360, you could be returned as you’re mothers vagina would probably reject such a large amount of error laden, malfunctioning broken down refuse such as you.Fear not though 360 fanboy, there’s still hope for you,….give up?…it involve’s you performing a procedure called “cranial-rectal extrication”,oh, sorry, perhaps you would better understand it if I put it in terms that you would comprehend, liike yo duds pulz yuo hed out youore asz.
    For you’re sub-par I.Q. edification.

  46. vitalme:

I must say that the XBOX 360 ELITE is trash. I’ve only had it for about a month an a half and I already have the “RED RING of DEATH”. I’ve never in all my life had a product mess up in a month. TRASH is the only legal word I can share with you guys. I’ve had a SNES thats still works after 10 YEARS. I own both XBOX 360 ELITE and a Wii. Out of personal experience the ELITE is a true “brick”.
P.S. It will take half a month to get it back. Vitalme kicks but in HALO 3. 1/15/08

  47. OrielmFrielay:

I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well. But it was interesting! Look for some my links:

  48. Coco:

Xbox 360 is such a major pile of shite it is unreal, DO NOT BUY ONE, Mine failed after six months it did not really concern me me too much so sent it back for a repair… ” weeks later they had “replaced” it only to find that this one was in worse condition than the one i originally sent in.

The problem with my first xbox 360 was the visuals went tits up so you could hear sound but their was no visual just a black screen, the one that they send back had the same visual problem, The power button on the front of hte console didnt work and the thing was bloody noisy as can be, Not fan wise more of a cd whirriing noise but thats gettign jammed. I have noe bought a PS3 and will be selling my xbox on ebay as soon as it arrives back to me.

Also xBox – Dual layer dvd’s – Stop being produced
Ps3 – blueray – the way to the future.

So before you think about what games are out now just think of what games will be out for the ps3 when xbox can only make shitty 9 gig dvds when ps3 bluray hold 50 gig.

  49. John Ashfield:

Actually the 360 is still selling quicker then the ps3, still has more exclusives, considering this was meant to be Sonys untouchable year they havent made up nearly enough ground.
I had my launch 360 till the elite launched and i have had my elite since it launched without either failing.
Xbox 360 = bigger hard drive (with hard drive installs this is vital), more exclusives, more games, better online service that costs a mere £3 per month, far more games in development, exclusive content to major games like GTA and Fallout 3 and all at a cheaper price then the PS3 and now the RROD has been solved its a great time to buy

PS3 = Good blu ray player, meant to be more powerfull but no games clearly outshining competition and system bricks every time an update is released (usually late)

Oh and 360 is currently nearly 10 million consoles ahead of the PS3!

  50. John Ashfield:

Also with Multiple DVD games the blu ray advantage vanishes.

Total number of blu ray films sold world wide = 2.5 million, total number of PS3s = 13.9 million. meaning around 1 in 6 ps3 owners have purchased one blu ray film. Thats it!
