Sony offers rewards to Gamestop managers to sell PS3

By Jonathan Schlaffer

Sony offers rewards to Gamestop managers to sell PS3Sony just doesn’t seem to get it. First the low end PS3 doesn’t sell so they nix it. Then it says at some point we’ll get a PS3 with a larger hard drive and if that isn’t enough, Sony is now offering rewards to managers of Gamestop/EB if the store can push the PS3 on customers to its satisfaction.

GamersReports sites an unnamed source within the Gamestop/EB coporate entity that Sony has set up a behind-the-scenes deal that rewards the stores for selling a certain number of PS3s.

According to them the contest works like this, each store has an assigned sales number, the manager that can go over the assigned number and come out on top wins 20,000 points to be spent on the Gamestop/Sony Rewards site (not accessible by the general public).

In addition, the store that comes out on top in the entire company gets an additional 10,000 for a total of 30,000 points. For the record a $60 PS3 game goes for 3,450 points. With 20,000 points on the low end, that translates to $350 worth of PS3 games.

The reward site does not currently offer the purchase of the PS3 itself. Well, with the employee discount and all, why should it be offered? The points can also not be redeemed for cash as far as I can tell.

You idiot. Not even in retail, we (manufacture of PC PSUs) “bribes” distributors and wholesellers’ sales team to sell more of our products over our competitors, by offering incentives, cash, even, sometimes.

Obviously you haven’t even cracked into elementary sales & marketing.

I love my PS3 by the way. There are reasons why Sony, as a company, can sell 100 million PS2s. And with that kind of installed based already established, even though it’s a prior system, may indirectly add to PS3’s momentum as they finally get good games out. And they will. Case in point: Final Fantasy XIII, tide, will turn, worldwide. Sony will get the last laugh. This system is future proof and expendable(Eye of Judgment). It’s so much easier to emulate Wii’s main strength by PS3 then it is for Wii to copy PS3, which it can’t, so it needs to rely on short-term innovations, it will play out, unfortunately that’s human nature, I know, because my Wii is already gathering dust. The key, is that, is not that ppl don’t want to buy PS3, is just that price is high. IF they lower price and no one buys, then Sony will have a problem. Cases in point: Neo-Geo, Sega Genesis, and GameCube. Lastly, Xbox360 didn’t even come up par in avg units sold in same time period length compared to Sony, when, they both started out.

Oh oops, that’s getting into Financial Analysis, don’t know if you are knowledgeable in that field either.
