XBOX 360 gets PS3’s SIXAXIS controller abilities

By Jonathan Schlaffer

XBOX 360 gets PS3's SIXAXIS controller abilities They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and if that’s the case, Nintendo should be very proud. First, Nintendo released the motion sensing Wiimote for the Wii, and then Sony said its SIXAXIS would have motion sensing and now that same function has made its way to XBOX 360 controllers.

That doesn’t mean it is possible to buy a controller with that feature, because, that would just be too easy. I4U reports it is necessary to install a secondary Titltboard made by Talismoon in the XBOX 360 controller for the SIXAXIS capabilities.

Installing the board requires some soldering skills and sandwiching it into the XBOX 360 controller. There are 7 solder points to be connected and the easiest install method will reduce the controller battery life.

I’m all for the XBOX 360 getting SIXAXIS abilities but not if I have to solder it myself, not if it cuts down (significantly) on battery life and certainly not for the $40 price. It’s a cool idea but it would be much better if they sold an already modified controller and sold it for $85, I’d buy it.

What company in their right mind is going to make games that feature motion sensetive controls for 360 if they know 360 owners have to mod their controller to use it? This is the dumbest idea I’ve ever heard. And can somebody aknowledge that Sony’s sixaxis was in the works before Wii came out? They didn’t copy Wii, both companies did something similar with their systems. For all you 360 owners who for some reason are considering buying this attatchment I’d like to say : Don’t worry guys you aren’t missing much. On PS3 the feature is sometimes interesting but so far not many games have made great use of it, and the ones that do use it aren’t much better for it. Maybe Lair will change that, but again, this is a game developed for a system for which every owner has a motion sensetive controller. I can garuntee next to no 360 games will support this and when they do it will be lame.

Hey Mike i tottaly agree with you the 360 controller is perfectly fine how it is.Changing it will not make them succeed more.

    3. Bernard:

Microsoft made a six-axis controller 10+ years ago…How did this suddenly become Nintendo’s idea?

    4. James:

Bernards right, this isn’t new stuff. I have some crappy controller thats over 10 years old and it has tilt built into it. I can control any pc game by tilting the controller and it works just great. I don’t use it though unless i’m really bored because it’s not really that much fun.

    5. beng:

a you guys know were to buy an xbox control with the tilt board already installed for you? Im not really a handy man myself

    6. James:

      This isn’t true.
Like one of the comments said, no company in the right mind would do this.
