Sony: Nintendo Wii has a better business model than the PS3
It’s no secret that the Nintendo Wii has been selling like hotcakes, making both Sony and Microsoft attempt to redefine themselves and the types of customers they want to attract. In light of all these facts, Sir Howard Stringer, the CEO of Sony said there is no doubt that consumers want a price cut for the PS3 which is under “consideration” at the moment.
Things have gotten so bad at Sony that Sir Howard was quoted as saying “The Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise, and a very good business model, compared with ours… because it’s cheaper… that (price cuts) is what we are studying at the moment”, in an interview with the Financial Times.
Sony is always falling short of predictions, especially those regarding the PS3. It fell short of the shipment target last year and its prediction to ship 11 million units this year is a bit dodgy, much less their ability to sell that many.
If Sony is to accomplish even half of what it has laid out on paper then a price cut is most certainly in order but the predicted $100 cut, won’t cut it but don’t expect to see a reduction in price any more than that.
We can only hope that the sales of home electronics, namely, TVs can keep Sony afloat while its games division does nothing but lose money.

Playstation 3 should drop to 300 dollars and 400 for 60 Gb, Xbox 360 should make an xbox portable.

Poor, poor Sony… They have to bury themselves in even greater financial loss just to sell half as many units as Wii does…

Sony is the new Microsoft, loathed, arrogant, misleading, format/DRM-fixated, think parents all have money to burn.
Like I said Microsoft.

Poor Sony. I feel sorry for them. I am a really big fan. I mean, we all know that there only charging $1000 because the technology is so great. If u look at the specs the PS3 is superior…
Guess specs aren’t everything.

I like the PS3.. but the price draws me away from it.
I would buy a ps3 if it were 350 or 400 $.
But 700 is too much for me

although if blu-ray wins (probably will), Sony hits the jackpot.

What’s wrong with demanding top dollar from the dumbass consumer? If everyone wasnt such tightwads, Sony would be on top and rolling in the cash. Just work harder or get a second job.
So what if there’s no content, so what if “cell” isnt all that great or easy to code for, so what if you dont care about Blu-rayand dont own a 1080p HDTV, so what if the competition costs half as much and has many, many more titles, suck it up and buy, buy, bye!
C’mon you tight arses, get out there and spend your hard earned on a PS3!
Sony marketing rant over.

instead of a portable xbox, why not just scrap your 360 and use its parts to refurbish a laptop that can play actual 360 discs? how’s that for a mod?
