Microsoft extends Xbox 360 warranty to three years
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Microsoft has all but admitted it was wrong. Due to the sheer number of complaints from customers about the “red ring of death” failure that has plagued so many Xbox 360 consoles, Microsoft is extending the Xbox 360 warranty to three years.
Any console currently under the one year warranty is now covered by a three year warranty effective from date of purchase. Any Xbox 360 owner that had to pay for a “red ring of death” failure that falls within the new three year warranty period will be compensated, in full for the cost of the repair.
All Xbox 360 consoles purchased new will come with the new three year warranty. In an open letter to the Xbox 360 community Peter Moore posted an open letter to the Xbox 360 community, in it, he says Microsoft has not been doing a great job of customer service and that will change and from this day forward, Microsoft will stand behind its product.
He apologized to all Xbox 360 owners but especially those that have had issues, “If we have let any of you down in the experience you have had with your Xbox 360, we sincerely apologize. We are taking responsibility and are making these changes to ensure that every Xbox 360 owner continues to have a great experience.”
Let’s hope their new found “respect” for the customer isn’t a fabrication and that this is sincere. For Microsoft’s sake, it had better be.
