PS3 and Wii failure rate less than 1%

By Jonathan Schlaffer

PS3 and Wii failure rate less than 1% Microsoft has taken a beating time and again for building the Xbox 360 with subpar components and poor construction. A number of gamers, current figures say around 33% are having problems with their Xbox 360 failing with the “red ring of death” syndrome. PS3 and Wii owners love life because those consoles have a failure rate of 1% or less.

EB Games and Gamestop recently increased the price for the extended warranty on the Xbox 360; prices did not increase on the Wii or PS3. So many bad Xbox 360s were coming back; the companies had to increase the warranty price to keep from losing money.

The Wii and PS3 on the other hand are so reliable that no price increase was necessary and reports say that Sony and Nintendo support is far superior to that of Microsoft.

One EB location that has sold hundreds of Wiis said none of them came back as defective and of the PS3s sold; none of those came back as defective either.

Nintendo will replace any Wii suffering from a hardware failure within the warranty terms; Sony will do the same for the PS3. Why is this concept lost on Microsoft?

The Xbox 360 is the current market leader as far as total sales, but how many of those are broken and how many of those are replacement consoles that have been rolled into the sales figures. The Wii is catching up fast and while the Ps3 may be pulling in a far third place, it is still more reliable than the Xbox 360.

In the long term it may be smarter to get a Wii or PS3 instead of an Xbox 360 just for the simple fact that both are more reliable. The Wii already has a good library of games to choose from and the PS3 will get there.

The Xbox 360 does have a nice selection of games to choose from but if it is breaking down so often, what’s the point of having nice games if they can’t be played?

Here’s hoping Microsoft does right by Xbox 360 owners and actually stands by its new three year warranty policy.

MS just replaced my 360 after a second three red light failure. I applaud their taking responsibility by issuing the three year warranty (up from 3 months originally), especially as it will cost them $1.15 billion to do so.

Are there enough PS3 units sold to have a failure rate?!

At one point i was considering a 360 because i wanted to pickup a new system but then i noticed all of their retarded fanboy comments so i went out and picked up a brand new ps3. just don’t want to be associated with those guys … i’m very happy with my purchase.

however, i wonder if this failure rate on their side is comparable to the automobile industry? i remember a news article explaining how japan’s quality assurance standard is way higher than other places …

jonathan, the extended warranty is from MS not from the retailers. you guys only underscore your ignorance with every passing “article”.

give it up. you guys know zip about the 360, ms or gaming. i heard the SDF.com is hiring….. you’d fit in well there..
