Logitech and Magic Wand birth love child: MX Air Mouse
Have you ever had a desire to stand ten feet from your computer and, with a flick of the wrist like a jealous Wii gamer, lower your computer’s volume? If you’re anything like me, chances are no, but Logitech’s new MX Rechargeable Cordless Air Mouse will let you do just that.
The cordless mouse is designed to control your computer sans a desk or other suitable flat surface by using “Freespace” motion sensing turning hand-based gestures into commands. The device also acts as a normal laser mouse when placed on a flat surface, so you’re not always stuck doing the Harry Potter dance.
The MX Air Mouse retails for $149.99 and comes with it’s own rechargeable battery, so there’s no need to replace AAs every few months, and it works from about thirty feet away from the receiver. Currently it only works on Windows XP and Vista, but supports Apple’s iTunes as well as Windows Media Player, RealPlayer, Rhapsody, and Winamp. It also works with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape, and Opera web browsers.

Being a Home Theater PC user, I can testify to the usefulness of something like the MX Air Mouse, but what do you think about it? Is hand-based gesture control simply novel or actually useful? Would you buy it for $149.99? I’d tell you I would, but I’d buy lots of things if I had a big enough wallet.
