Nintendo working to prevent Wii shortages for holiday season?

Nintendo working to prevent Wii shortages for holiday season?A certain George Harrison, senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications for Nintendo of America, was caught recently boasting about current Wii shortages, but Nintendo may be working in the background in order to prevent such a tragedy.

According to EMSnow.com, a site dedicated to monitoring electronic manufacturers, Nintendo is currently seeking to contract more dedicated assemblers and chip suppliers.

EMSnow explains that Nintendo is simply trying to “diversify risk” while its console sells like hot-cakes around the world. This does not necessarily mean Nintendo is ramping up production to meet demand.

One could argue that more manufacturers and assemblers means more Wii consoles. It unfortunately may be that Nintendo is insuring itself as it adjusts contracts with current partners or simply making sure it has enough backing in order to meet the current rate of supply.

The reality of the situation is that the console is sold out virtually everywhere. As of the writing of this post, Nintendo’s Wii is unavailable at Best Buy, Gamestop, and Amazon, so it would not be surprising to find that Nintendo is increasing supply rates.
