Microsoft’s Peter Moore bashes Sony, resigns as vice president

Microsoft’s Corporate VP of Interactive Entertainment, the one and only Peter Moore, bashed Sony last week at E3 and stepped down from office today.
Microsoft has struggled to get a strong foothold in the console industry in Japan, only selling 122,565 units in the first half of the 2007, so it is surprising to hear Moore’s response when asked by GameDailyBiz about Japan’s importance in the global console battle.
“That’s probably a better question for Sony who’s getting outsold by what, 6-to-1? You can bet that Sony built a long-term business plan about being successful in Japan and that business plan is crumbling.”
Avoiding Microsoft’s failures in Japan and focusing on Sony’s shortcomings, Moore continued, “I built a business plan [for Japan], but I don’t think my expectations in Japan were anything close to what Sony’s expectations are. They are failing. They’re missing their plan by much more than I’m missing my plan.”
Moore’s success as a VP for Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment division is unknown, but today he resigned from office, moving his family back to the Bay Area to pursue another opportunity in the gaming industry as President of EA Sports.
Don Mattrick, an external advisor for Microsoft, will be taking control of Moore’s old station. Matrick is a pioneer in the gaming industry who has held various positions at EA.
As talented and experienced as Moore may be, this all sounds like a load public relations BS. I’m guessing things didn’t work out for Moore at Microsoft and he was asked to step down.
Is this a bunch PR crap or does Moore really, really, really like EA and the Bay Area? Drop some English in the comments.
