The 80GB Playstation 3 is being sold/shipped right now
While Sony hasn’t provided a specific release date for the 80GB PS3, the console is due to hit stores in August, so it shouldn’t be surprising that some online stores seem to be selling and shipping the console today.
Technically, they’re not shipping today, but if you buy from Gamestop or EBGames online today, they’ll ship it in 24 hours, which usually means a product is in stock and shipping like normal. Circuit City and Newegg are also selling the console with a lack of “pre-order” labeling anywhere on their 80GB PS3 listings. The Gamestop and EBGames news has been confirmed throughout the web with other sites, but it is unconfirmed if Circuit City and New Egg are actually shipping the console.
Toys “R” Us is pre-selling the product like other stores, but they’ve provided a definitive date, 8/06/2007, for the 80GB PS3’s release on their site. Best Buy and Amazon still have the console for pre-order with no definitive release date. Buy.com seems to lack an 80GB PS3 listing all together.
So if you’re in the market for an 80GB Playstation 3, pick your poison. If you do (or don’t) receive the console, please leave a note in the comments informing others.

Went to Gamestop this evening to purchase a 60GB PS3. To the surprise of not only myself but also the employees of Gamestop they ALREADY have the 80GB unit in. So if you’re looking to purchase the new 80GB PS3, give a call to your local Gamestop and it will surely have it. How do I know, I live in Iowa and we’re the last to receive anything. As far as the rumors of a new Sixaxis controller with rumble/ vibration being sent in the new 80GB PS3, that rumor proved to be FALSE. It’s still the same ole controller.

Don’t forget, any American here claiming that non EE PS3’s are poor, does not show squat. Us Europeans have had EE-less PS3’s since launch, and there are no issues (less heat buildup more airflow).
