HMV made a "mistake": Metal Gear Solid 4 to stay Playstation 3 "exclusive"

Warning: If you smell something fishy, it’s because all this Metal Gear Solid 4 platform uncertainty has is rolling around the Internet. After HMV created a Metal Gear Solid 4 for Xbox 360 pre-sell listing on its site, the retail giant is announcing that the listing was mistake.
“In his enthusiasm, one of our online games team indicated that hmv.co.uk would start taking pre-orders for MGS4 on Xbox 360,” said an HMV rep to GamesIndustry.biz, ”when, in fact, he simply meant to ask customers if they wished to receive an alert in the event of this title one day coming out on this platform.”
Does that smell like grade-A BS to you? ‘Cause it does to me.
“We’re sorry to have caused such a stir - the oversight has now been corrected,” continued the rep.
Personally, I think a Konami enforcer was on the other end of the phone with a gun to the head of an HMV employee when GameIndustry.biz called. The Xbox 360 is bound to see the release of the game eventually, even if it’s in ‘09. Like I’ve said before, the word “exclusive” doesn’t mean anything anymore in the video game industry.
I think what matters more is the fact that no one talks about releasing the game on the Wii. I’d like to point out that Konami wouldn’t waste it’s time making a real game for an inferior system. The Wii will never see the game.
On a more serious note: “Since Metal Gear was born on the PlayStation, we would like to keep it a PlayStation game. But we might have to take some steps,” said Kazumi Kitaue, head of Konami’s North American and European operations, to reuters. Kitaue was expressing his dissapointment in the sell rate and recent unimpressive price cut of the PS3, implying that Konami may need to release the game on other platforms in order offset production costs if PS3 sales don’t pick up by the game’s Sony Playstation 3 release.

man shut up mgs4 is not going to the 360 anymore than gears of war or halo to the ps3…get over it the 360 can live without mgs4. plenty of other big guns out there.

You know what’s funny? Apparently, the PS3 is not selling very well which is why MGS4 may be ported to the 360? … but correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t the PS3 already sold more units in Japan than the 360? … despite the 360 having an entire years head start?
Furthermore, there are also statistics showing that the PS3 is more than gaining ground on the 360 in the United States already. So much so that they are not even comparing sales figures between the PS3 and the 360, but are instead only trumpeting how many more Wii’s are being sold than the PS3? … has anyone else noticed that they’re not really comparing 360 sales anymore? … [heres some figures helping you understand this a little more: http://news.punchjump.com/article.php?id=4605 ]
What’s the big deal about MGS4 not going to 360 anyways? … 360 already has Halo 3 coming out exclusive. It also has some other killer titles specific for itself, and yet, for some reason, pimple-faced 360 fanboys also want a feel of a Solid Snake? … hmmm? … me thinks they’ve been hiding away in their rooms ALONE for too long and need to get out and see the sun, chase some skirts, or shorts depending on our persuasion? … but seriously, get out man, it’s not too late … well, until of course ROCKSTAR Games PS3 exclusive gets released and then you’ll be messing up your shorts creating rumours that that’s coming to 360 too … despite it’s creators tagging it as a PS3 exclusive? …
Harden up boys. Just in case some of you have forgotten, unfortunately, the sun does not shine out of Bill Gates’ butt … maybe out of his wallet – which for some reason you are so religiously lining … but definitely not his butt.
And as for MGS4 not heading to Wii … there’s a reason for that … the idea of creating a sequel to a game is to advance the game … not keep the graphics the same as they were in 1983 when Solid Snake was more of a Can’t Control My Snake in class kind of guy!
PS3 may not lead the sales figures, but at least you’re not hearing too many delusionaly, desperate cheesy puffs creating rumours that Halo 3, or Saints Row is coming to PS3 … oh hold on, isn’t Saints Row heading to PS3?! …

For my reason why I want to see mgs4 come to the 360 is because I loved playing the series on playstation 2, but now I converted to the 360.
Playstation was my favorite console, but the ps3 is totally shit. Well thats to bad ehh..

Sean, its great to hear you have a great life and yes, I have to admit that it was very childish to have commented as I did in relation to 360 owners, but, to be fair, you have admit that there has been a hell of a lot of PS3 bashing? Although that is still not reason enough to react as I did?
I have a 360 also and enjoy the console. Was also a bit sceptical at the start of the PS3, but there seems to be more and more reason justifying my purchase.
Yeah so its now as cheap to get an 80 gig version as it was when I got my 60 gig one. But hey, thems the breaks I guess with any product?
The 360 Elite is a perfect example.
But just to comment on your reasoning for PS3 selling more in Japan because it is a Japanese made console … the only question I have is, how do you explain the Wii sales in the United States? … last I saw, Nintendo was a Japanese made console also? … and for the record, the PS3 was the second highest selling console in the month of June … in the US!
Yes MGS is a great series. Whether you played it on PS2 or Nintendo. Would you consider buying a PS3 just because it was exclusive? … who knows? It sounds like it would take a lot more than that for many to even consider it? … and yet there still seems to be a lot of hating online because of it? …

Hate being pedantic but Metal Gear was born on the MSX, the NES version was a port (with the fight with Metal Gear actually removed for some stupid reason!?!). If we go by the Metal Gear ‘SOLID’ franchise (which I think he is), then yes its spiritual home is on the Playstation. Doesn’t mean it’ll never be ported again though.

Only babies played Nintendo systems. I played that system when I young.
Nintendo was always a crappy system. Super mario and zelda are so hyped. People complain why don’t people change games. Duh these games same story every game. Nintendo didn’t make Metal Solid Gear or any third party game famous. None.
All third party games were made famous on Playstation because it was the video game system that changed it all. Final Fantasy, Metal Solid Gear, Tomb Raider were made know and famous on those systems.
And original Xbox sucked so much it didn’t last past 2.5 years.
