BioShock tops Amazon charts and sells out everywhere else
By Danny Mendez
The highly anticipated first person shooter sells out at brick and mortar retail stores while topping the Amazon popularity charts.
Many of you have probably ventured into your local Circuit City, Game Stop, or other video game store only to find that BioShock has sold out. I was one of the many who visited several stores only to be turned away by BioShock’s absence.
Irritated with having to say "it’s sold out" way too many times, store attendants turned me away left and right as soon as I mentioned the game’s name. One Target attendant didn’t even let me finish my sentence when I asked, "Do you guys have Bio-" and, without even looking at me, he muttered the words "sold out" on his way to help a little kid grab a PS2 game.
I was "shockingly" able to snag a copy at a local Best Buy after driving around town to every Game Stop, Circuit City, Target, and Best Buy that I knew.
BioShock is also topping the "All Games" Amazon.com popularity charts as well as the "PC" and "Xbox 360" charts, but, thankfully for many, it is still in stock. Unfortunately for those unable or unwilling to buy it old school style at a brick and mortar store, they’ll have to wait a few days to make the real trip down to Rapture.

Oh, so this game only hardcore FPS gamers know about is #1 at amazon.com? Big deal! Let’s wait for those NPD numbers.
This game is just a glorified Doom clone. No appeal at all with mainstream gamers, much less casual gamers that are pushing the Wii to the lead in terms of console sales.
Bioshock sure isn’t going to help the Lunchbox360 in terms of sales in Japan. Where even the GameBoy is selling more units.
So yeah, enkoy being #1 at amazon.com, by the looks of it, nobody gives a fuck about that.

Actually, most hardcore first person shooter fans aren’t quite as excited about BioShock. For two reasons. One: Halo 3 is right around the corner. Second: The things that appeal to hardcore FPS fans (like online multiplayer) are missing from BioShock. I’ve spoken with many FPS Aficionados who said they will not purchase BioShock if it has no online multiplayer.
As far as NPD numbers are concerned, well… the article did say it was sold out everywhere else, and they’re not even lying. It’s first week alone BioShock sold more than 400,000 copies, which is huge for a first week release considering most games won’t sell that in a month, let alone a lifetime.
BioShock has already established itself as a success. When the NPD numbers come, don’t be surprised if the Game which topped sales for the month of August was BioShock.
