2K issues widescreen and install limit patch for BioShock
After every gaming site on the planet lauded BioShock’s gameplay, graphics, environment, physics and AI but at the same time were angry and annoyed about several limitations of the game. The widescreen ratio problem which chops portions of the viewable area off as opposed to adjusting to the true 16:9 ratio and the two install limitation, new patches to be issued by 2K Games itself will address both issues.
The previous two install limitation will be replaced by what the company calls a “5 by 5 plan.” ShackNews learned from 2K “community manager” Elizabeth that the plan will allow users to install the game on five computers up to five times without uninstalling the game but should you wish to surpass even that limitation you will have to uninstall a copy. For initial releases of the game that may face issues with this, 2K is going to release a “revoke” application that will address issues that may arise from the initial limitations.
Another patch will address the field of view issue when BioShock is played on a widescreen monitor, even going so far as to admit the original implementation was by design. It was a mistake even if the company won’t admit that part. This applies to the PC version only, a Xbox 360 patch is “under consideration.”
In addition to this, 2K is extending (improving) technical support for the game and has issued a technical FAQ to address many issues including activation problems and SecuRom issues. The activation servers are now operating normally so if you’re still stuck with the activation dialog, try activating the game now, it will probably work but as with all things SecuRom and 2K, no promises on my part.
That being said, none of these things should have happened in the first place but they did and 2K is proactively addressing the issues and plugging holes, not even that much can be said for certain other companies.
