PS3 not getting BioShock, to stay Xbox 360 and PC exclusive
By Jonathan Schlaffer
Despite previous reports, I would call them rumors that the PS3 would be getting BioShock, it has been confirmed that the game will not be coming over to the PS3, ever. So there, stop thinking it will.
Joystiq interviewed lead designer Kev Levine of 2K games who said over the phone, “I promise you, there is no secret plan about the PS3 that we’re keeping from people. There’s no PS3 development going on that we’re hiding. There’s lots of stuff that gets into game code, plans change over time and we got an exclusive deal with Microsoft … that’s not a Rosetta Stone discovery.”
We reported on this in the past saying that it was not beyond the realm of possibility with a bit of skepticism thrown in. I’m not really surprised it isn’t coming to the PS3 because we are talking about two entirely different systems. Now I’m left wondering how hard/easy it was to create a version for PCs and a version for the Xbox 360.

Lol ok, I’ll just get it on PC..much like ALL of 360’s “exclusives”.
Get a PS3, bioshock is shit compared to Killzone.

You mean Killzone the wannabe version of a Halo3 title on the PS3. Maybe that one game will save PS3. Oh shit, I just may have seen a pig flying.

Its not worth the money to code for such a small number of PS3 players. PC and 360 together is like a hundred million machines…the PS3 has less than five million. So I would rather get my team working on Bioshock 2 for max profit than chase the PS3 dollar for half or even less profit. The time and money these days involved in games has to flow through a (window of time) where you come full circle and are able to start new projects. You do the math…The 360/PC camp is 20 times as profitable. Mighty Sony is stuck in the mud with little to offer behind closed doors.

I never looked at it that way but I guess your right about the 360/PC being way bigger then PS3. I honestly think that in the future I won’t buy a console. I have both now but in the future I will get one kick ass computer and my game will be on PC. And everyone has basically got a PC. What a smart shift Microsoft is creating.

The 360 vs PC version is one that people really need to reconsider when it comes to this game. First off I own it for the 360 even though I have a powerful PC. With that disclosed here is why. I tried the demo from Xbox live (no PC demo) and was blown away by how effortless the controls were. The arguement over keyboard and mouse really doesn’t apply to this game seriously. In fact my multiplayer experiences on other 360 titles really let me poetically dispatch enemies in this game because of the user friendly control scheme. Not to mention most people don’t have an expensive gaming rig PC (that will run this game anyway). So don’t bash it for control the 360 controller has demonstrated that it is very good for games period! Next are the achiements it is sad but I like many other gamers have become addicted to these things. (so far 42 of 50 for Bioshock). They really do add to replay value and after you beat this game once trust me you are going to start it right back up for round 2. The story is excellent and I’m sure both (PC/360) versions are equally great but I just felt that the 360 version was the best all around. For the critics this is not a short game you will just play it for long sessions! Yes it hasn’t been out long and I’ve already beat it but I played this bitch for 8 hrs for 3 days to get one of five different endings! As for the “no online multiplayer I’m not buying arguement” if that is your stance you are a dumbass. Bioshock is a very unigue experience and a true testiment to how far games have come. If that isn’t good enough for you it trully is your loss. To the PS3 fanboys I just have one thing to say “keep waiting one day you will have cool games like this”

Everyone knows that the PS3 is for playing movies not games, and there are a few movies you can watch on it. Why spend 500 on a Blu-Ray player to watch only movies, when you can spend 600 on a PS3 to also only watch movies. Logically it makes perfect sence to buy a PS3, right???

@Jayboy
You have a very jaded outlook on computer games if that’s the way you think. Have you even tried playing Bioshock?
At the end of the day, it’s a shame the game won’t be released on the ps3. If it was, it would open up an even larger consumer base and, therefore, the Bioshock developers could reap the rewards they so rightly deserve.

A PC is not a cost efficient form of gaming. There is no “standard” pc platform for games, so you have to deal with a lot of compatibility issues. The 360 is worry free. THat’s why consoles thrive–not because they’re the most powerful, but because they’re conventient.
Besides, who has their PC hooked up to a 42 in ch hi def TV? Not many.
As for the PS3 fanboys . . motorstorm? I played it. Very limited. All of you guys are touting FUTURE releases, from what you’ve seen on pre-rendered cut scenes. We HAVE Bioshock and Gears of War already.
You can stick a fork in the PS3.

ok firstly…killzone better than bioshock! think again! the joy of bioshock is in the atmosphere, its not just about the guns, also graphics do not make a game, gameplay makes a game, FFVI/VII/VIII has pretty rubbish graphics compared to X/XII but im pretty sure there a lot better. also at the moment if every single PS3 owner bought a game it woudlnt guarantee a massive profit.
thirdly, pcs can do better than HD a HD tv that can do 1080P is equivilent to a pc moniter that supports the resolution 1920 x 1080, my 4 year old dell supports 1600×1200 and thats not far off 1080p, pcs of today are proven to work on moniters up to 3840×2400, tho a moniter capable of that costs $8000 atm so is a bit unreaslistic but u can see my point,

It’s a wonder anything gets ported to the PS3 at all. Not only is it difficult to code for, but - after nearly a year in release - its American user base hasn’t even hit 2 million. I think it’s only a matter of time before developers start treating the PS3 as this generation’s Gamecube.

Xbox360 and PC share the same development suite, (XNA) so cross-porting is relatively simple and cost-effective. PS3 has a mish-mash of non-compatible dev API’s that make ports from PC or 360 prohibitively difficult and expensive.
Sony just forgot that the console biz is all about making money, not shoving your optical disk format of choice down the consumer’s throat.
Small wonder Developers are leaving the PS3 camp like rats from a sinking ship.

lol very old article I know - but Bioshock was announced for PS3 a few days ago. Just shows you can never trust gaming companies

OH and they’re working on making it a fully better game for the ps3. Everyone’s got a price, Bungie left microsoft. Halo on PS3? nah, but most games have been better on the playstation.
