Xbox 360 and Wii can’t do this: Play Lair on PS3 or PSP via Remote Play

By Danny Mendez

Xbox 360 and Wii can't do this: Play Lair on PS3 or PSP via Remote PlayCan a Blu-ray disc game be played over the Internet via PSP? Theoretically it’s possible. While the PS3 handles the main processing tasks, the PSP essentially acts as a controller connected to the PS3 via the Internet. The end result is that Lair is being played on the PSP and there’s video proof to boot.

Although unconfirmed by an official source, a group of gamers over at the official Playstation forums report it is possible to play Lair via their PSPs over Remote Play.

Because of the lack of R2 and L2 buttons, not all the actions of the game are supported, such as braking, but, be it a glitch or intentional coding, the game is supposedly playable via Remote Play.

While the forum holds one doubter, who was later labeled a troll, refusing to try the idea, many are reporting that it is indeed possible to play Lair far, far away from your PS3. For any doubters here, I’ve got video proof to boot, and, while it is possible to fake anything on video, with these many followers, I doubt this is fake. I’d like to thank YouTuber, peepflosja, for the video, and behold:

If this turns out to be fake, I’m sorry. This isn’t the first time I’ve been bamboozled.

For god sake why didn’t he just rest the camera on a table or something, he managed to capture his crotch more than the PSP.
Seriously though, even though I think the game is a little meh, that looks really really cool. I had no idea it was even possible to link a PS3 and PSP together like that. Awesome.

“I had no idea it was even possible to link a PS3 and PSP together like that. Awesome.”

There is also a function where you can stream the media you have on the PS3 from anywhere in the world to your PSP over the Internet.

Finally people are starting to awaken to the idea that PS3 is actually pretty neat, having well designed features, and reliable weel thought out hardware.

I have only 1 criticism of the PS3. I wish they put a USB port on the back of the unit, to connect hidden stuff, as it is everything is round the front, and may become untidy.

The 360 by comparison was rushed to market to cash in, and is horribly unreliable, and crippled by no HDD in the core, and lack of Blu-Ray drive.

      2 questions
      why would you want to?
why have you bought Lair? its awful

    5. Rorkimaru:

while i think this will become possible at the moment i dont think it is. Certanly not with Lair. the controls for lair rely heavilly on the sixaxis in the controler, ie no tilt no play. psp has no tilt so i remain a sceptic. also it looks like the timing with the tuns and the analogue stick are a bit off.

while i think this is possible in the future games will hve to have been given support for this. they will have “psp mode” where the controls are simplified by the AI to compensate for missing buttons and sticks. because of this id say few games will make a psp mode or if they do it wont be very good.

god i hate being sceptical but i think im being realisitc

    6. Randy:

I guess it’s true that the Wii can’t play Lair specifically, but with Pokemon Battle Revolution at least the Wii and the DS can interface. It’s true that you’re doing it locally in that case, but I’m not sure that there’s anything stopping them from doing it over the wide area, other than the fact that, well.. who wants to play a Wii game on their DS, really? There are so many good titles for the DS that if you’re using your DS, it should be to play one of those games.

I still support the PS3 though. It’s no Wii, but if it were cheaper it might have had a chance.

    7. g:

cool! i am able to stream media from my nokia n95!

ps3 is ahead of its time, now time needs to catch up!

    8. Seth:

Uhm… is this cool? I don’t really see how this is… well… anything. I mean, the buttons on the psp don’t match with the ps3’s and if I wanted to play a ps3 game on the go through the psp I’d need to have the game I want in the ps3 miles away and I’d need to be in the area of a wifi connection. It’s a neat tech demo but it’s pretty useless

    9. otakugamergt:

It’s sad how this things make the Sony fanboys so happy!!! No good games… whay else they can do?

    10. Danny Mendez:

Isnt Warhawk and Resistance pretty good?

    11. arjun pun:

warhawk rocks and this is cool.

    12. GullibleSucker:

Hmm, gamer.blorge really does have that unmistakable stench of Sony fanbiozness about it.

They jump on any news that casts PS3 in a positive light no matter how unfounded or poorly referenced, and anything reported about Wii or 360 (even good news) gets a negative spin attached. Strange huh?

You dont have to take my word for it either.

    13. Danny Mendez:

      to GuillibleSucker:

I can cite many articles that place other consoles in a positive light or place the PS3 in a negative light.

      Positive for X360:
      http://gamer.blorge.com/2007/08/29/sonys-ps3-feels-the-burn-halo-3-reaches-gold-sales-numbers/
      http://gamer.blorge.com/2007/08/21/bioshock-tops-amazon-charts-and-sells-out-everywhere-else/
      http://gamer.blorge.com/2007/08/19/your-next-gen-console-gets-graded-find-out-which-is-best/

      Positive for Wii:
      http://gamer.blorge.com/2007/08/23/looking-for-a-wii-ill-tell-you-how-to-find-one/

Those are just recent articles. While we all like gaming here at GAMING.BLORGE, we tend to cast positive and negative light on different consoles at different times. It all depends on whether the news is good or bad. In this case, the PS3 one upped the others, so I placed it in a positive light. I don’t see anything wrong with that. When the other consoles one up each other, I place them in positive lights as well.

    14. Danny Mendez:

Also, if I’m not mistaken, only one of us has a PS3.

    15. Mojo:

      It’s a shame lair is complete crap…..

    16. no one:

Surely this prospect is undeniably interesting. if this is legit and if developers can be bothered putting in a little effort (which probably won’t happen) I’d say this could be a very clever new addition to the world of gaming. The fact that lair is apparently crap (i wouldn’t know) is beside the point. If it can be done then hooray for lateral thinking.
