Wii continues global massacre of PS3, Xbox 360

By John Pospisil

Wii continues global massacre of PS3, Xbox 360 The Wii continues its domination of console sales charts, with the latest sales figures from Japan showing it outsold PlayStation 3 (PS3) by a factor of more than three to one last month.

According to market research company Enterbrain, Nintendo sold 245,653 Wiis in Japan in August, while Sony sold 81,541 PS3s, and Microsoft, well, it just turned up (actually, it sold 11,288 Xbox 360s).

This means that in total Nintendo has now sold 3.4 million Wiis in Japan, while Sony has sold 1.1 million PS3s, and Microsoft should be congratulated for putting in a good effort and trying really hard (it has sold 442,000 Xbox 360s to date).

Meanwhile in the UK, the Wii became the fastest selling console of all time, with Nintendo selling 1 million units in the 38 weeks since launch.

And in the US, despite Sony Computer Entertainment America’s claims in early August that sales of the PS3 were surging, the PS3 was still  outsold by Wii by almost three to one.

Nintendo is banking on continued success, boldly predicting that it will ship 16.5 million Wiis by the end of March 2008. It originally expected to sell 14 million Wiis. Despite being released a year after the Xbox 360, the Wii is poised to overtake sales of the Xbox 360 on a global basis.

Oh, the humanity.

Hope you were being sarcastic with the Microsoft trying hard comment….
All the headlines read Massacre Wii/PS3 3:1
      What about Wii/Xbox360 24:1

    2. T3kNi9e:

      uh what?

xbox sold 11.6 million as of july

if u meant since the release of Wii, then obviously xbox will be behind since everyone already had it since it came out a year earlier. But if xbox is behind Wii, its in a close 2nd and ps3 is 3rd

    3. Vanguard:

      Nintendo are very clever.

Who wouldve thought consumers would actually appreciate console hardware that greatly improves gameplay, compared to machines that rely on marketing hype about “theoretical” Tflops.

Not Sony or M$, it seems.

    4. concerned consumer:

hmmm…. well I bought and sold my Wii, there are not enough games that are worth playing — end of story. Eventually the control schemes will be worked out. 360 is where it is at currently - no question.

If i was given a choice for which Gaming console would i like 2 buy it would be without a doubt XBOX 360, as it offers more games then any other gaming console and not 2 forget some of the coolst games r available in XBOX 360….. I dont Have a XBOX 360 as i can not afforad one, but i am really excited about HALO 3, BIOSHOCK, G.T.A 4 and MAFIA 2 realese for XBOX 360…

    6. Bobby Ray:

I would buy an Xbox 360 right now, but MP3: Corruption, Madden, Super Paper Mario, Resident Evil, the upcoming zapper and fitness board projects, Mario Galaxy, Brawl and the virtual titles like Starfox, Tecmo Bowl, Contra, and Mario Kart are grabbing my attention too well. Also, the 360 is the most notorious system right now for hardware failure.

    7. Justin:

I have a Wii and a 360, no PS3 yet. Uhhh, besides Legend of Zelda the Wii doesnt offer me anything. 360 is the best system right now, no matter what the sales figures for consoles are. And by the way, the 360 is selling way more games than Wii.
