iTunes Killer: Sony to release direct-download video store for PS3, PSP

By Danny Mendez

iTunes Killer: Sony to release direct-download video store for PS3, PSPSony is considering the idea of a direct-download video store for the PS3, PSP, Bravia TVs, and new video Walkman players.

Sony Spokesman Shigenori Yoshida, according to Electronista, commented that his company was investigating a video download store. While it is obvious how the service can work for the PS3 and PSP, getting the video to a Bravia LCD TV requires the TV to support the Bravia Internet Link, which allows TVs to access online content without a separate computer.

As with typical video download services, the video is expected to come DRM equipped, and it is unknown which studios and networks will offer their content.

The announcement of this possibility is great news as the Xbox Live video store and the iTunes store will soon face some real competition, which hopefully means price wars.
