Nintendo DS bitch slaps PSP, PS3, & Xbox 360: Pokemon Diamond/Pearl hit 3 million
Despite possibly being the cheesiest, most unoriginal and repetitive game out, the Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games have officially hit 3 million in sales numbers.
GameDailyBiz reports that Nintendo officially announced the numbers today, and July NPD data shows that Pokemon Diamond is the best selling video game of the year period with Pearl coming in close at third place.
Not content with letting the numbers speak for themselves, Nintendo’s George Harrison chimes in with his take on the sales:
“These hard numbers show that the Pokémon franchise and Nintendo’s systems are striking a chord with players of all ages and drawing in huge numbers of new players year after year, but anecdotally we’re also seeing that these new Pokémon games are appealing to older players, the same ones who played the original Pokémon games when they debuted in the United States almost 10 years ago.”
I’m not sure what he means by “older players”, but I don’t think it includes many people past middle school, and I can’t remember seeing anybody my age on my college campus, or off my campus, playing Pokemon on a DS.
Either way, Halo 3 will have a hard time catching up if it wishes to declare itself king of hill for the year, although it’s already 1/3 of the way there.

Hey, a lot of people in my highschool were playing pokemon. The game mechanic and game play is solid if you look past the cute factor.
