Influx of 1.2 million Halo 3 players crashes Xbox live

Influx of 1.2 million Halo 3 players crashes Xbox live Microsoft has said time and again that the infrastructure behind Xbox live is “sufficient” for any demand but apparently its not.  Last night, a number of Xbox live users signing on to play Halo 3 discovered that they would have problems signing in and if they did manage to get signed on, staying connected would be difficult.

There was no official line from Microsoft (that I’m aware of) but it is very safe to assume that all those who managed to snag a copy of Halo 3 all decided to sign on at the same time thus bringing Xbox live service to a grinding halt.

Whatever happened appears to be over as the latest comment on the Xbox Forums indicates that all problems have been solved or solved themselves.  Go forth friends, go forth and “finish the fight.”

ArsTechnica is reporting that over 1.2 million unique players have signed on to play Halo 3 in the last 24 hours, hence the earlier problems.  In addition almost 5 million online matches have been played with over 402 million kills, again, in the last 24 hours.

    Wow yourself you nig-nog.

  3. Harry:

The numbers here are a bit wonky. 402 million kills in 24 hours means that the average across those 1.2 million users is 335 kills in 24 hours (and we know that only a select few will have played it for 24 hours straight). Seems extremely high for the average gamer.
