DFC Intelligence: Playstation 3 to own game sales charts by 2012
While the Nintendo Wii currently owns the gaming industry, many have debated whether or not its success will last into the future. Well, if you’re a betting (wo)man, DFC Intelligence wants to let you know where to place your bets.
Today, Gamasutra reported on the DFC’s forecast of how this generation’s console war will play out. The clear cut winner in the last war is obviously the PS2, according to DFC, and they’re predicting this year’s underdog, the PS3, will emerge as king of the hill.
The PS3’s success will come from future software sales. They predict the Wii will sell more units overall, but they don’t believe it will continue to sell more software. According to DFC Intelligence’s finding, the PS3 appears have a strong future (2009-2012) despite its weak start.
Regarding the Xbox 360, DFC finds that the console will have a hard time building a following outside of North America, but, if it can, it will most likely tie with either the PS3 in software sales or the Wii in hardware sales. Most likely, the Xbox 360 will fall to third place.
DFC Intelligence also predicts that the PSP will most likely catch up to the Nintendo DS, but they didn’t mention whether or not it will surpass the Wii’s portable cousin.

Thats all well and good but how could they know? I don’t know alot about the game scene other than i don’t want to waste my money on something which ultimately won’t get decent developer support, so my question is this: is this source reliable? how the hell can they predict 2-5 years into the future? I want nothing more than to see sony be successful as i have always found in the past that their consoles are reliable with a good selection of games. however i am still not convinced they are capable of this comeback we so patiently await. Fingers crossed, i would rather avoid giving money to microsoft if at all possible, sorry, just don’t like the (in my opinion) shrewd business poor electronics thing they got going. Gotta hand it to nintendo tho’, those dudes are risk takers and this industry needs more of ‘em, i’m glad the wii is currently such a success.

The 40GB PS3 at price where you didn’t have to sell a daughter will finally allow me to release my bitterness for and finally get one of these dust-prone sandwich-makers.

This is interesting considering; by 2012 the next big things will probably have come out from microsoft and nintendo and the Ps3 will probably be considered “last gen” Blu ray or HD-DVD will have failed aswell, the important point is in 2012 nobody will care about the ps3 cause it will be old and there will be bigger and better things

5 years?? Are you serious?? How much are sony paying you to right this?? This console only has 256RAM which is why it can’t even support games like C&C3 which are out at present.

If i remeber right the 360 replacement comes in 2010 2011? wich should make the ps3 old news.
If MS plays it’s cards right it can make the Ps3 look last gen.
I think the Ps3 360 and Wii are all fine systems and own the later 2.
To me a Ps3 would be redundent.
If Ms would get rid of it’s media restrictions(wich makes the MCE extender useless) and come through on it’s IPTV for a fair price i would never think Ps3.

Please think a little before you post people. Has anyone considered the fact that the Playstation 2 currently outsells both the Xbox, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3. It also has a wider library than any of the systems because it has had so much time to grow. The final fact to consider is as manufacturing processes improve, they can produce it cheaper and make more money off of it. Every company has to spend billions on developing a new platform and it almost always does not bring in the profit until it has been available for some time.

360: 512MB GDDR3 @ 700MHz, 10MB Embedded DRAM

PS3: 256MB XDR @ 3.2GHz – & – 256MB GDDR3 @ 700MHz VRAM …
The PS3 RAM is dedicated instead of shared (for a total of 512) and the 3.2Ghz memory is a lot faster than 700Mhz.
No one ever gets it right.
