Kaz Hirai claims PS3 much more powerful than Xbox 360

By Dave Parrack

Kaz HiraiKazuo Hirai, the current president of Sony Computer Entertainment, who replaced Ken Kutaragi, has strongly refuted claims that the Xbox 360 is as powerful as the PS3. Speaking in a recent interview with Scott Hettrick of Hollywood In High-Def, Kaz also defended the use of Blu-ray as the disc storage medium of choice and the future of physical disc media compared to downloadable content.

HiHD asked him “What are the primary erroneous points of information/misconceptions out there in blogger-land about PS3 in general and vs Xbox?”

Hirai replied “I have heard many people say our competitors’ systems are just as powerful as PS3. That simply is not true. No other next-generation entertainment system pushes the envelope on advanced technology like PS3. I have heard people say that a high-capacity game delivery vehicle like Blu-ray isn’t necessary in a next-generation computer entertainment system. You just can’t expect that the 9 GBs of storage capacity found on today’s DVDs are going to have enough space to hold tomorrow’s games. Developers have already pushed the DVD to its limits in terms of space used. We had games like ‘Resistance: Fall of Man’ coming in 16 GBs at launch. That game simply wouldn’t be possible on any other system without using multiple discs. There is no doubt in my mind that you need more capacity on discs for truly next-generation gaming, and Blu-ray gives us that space.”

But Kaz, it doesn’t matter how much more powerful your console is compared to the other competitors on the market if it isn’t being utilised to the full. I’m willing to believe the PS3 is more powerful under the hood than both the Xbox 360 and Wii, but it’s games that will determine the final placings in this battle for hardware manufacturers supremacy, not what the machine is theoretically capable of.

The PS2 didn’t really start showing its full hand until late in its life, after a good five years of it being on sale, so does this mean the PS3 is potentially five years ahead of its time? Possibly.

Meanwhile the Xbox 360 owners out there will be happy in the knowledge they have the best next generation game (so far) in the form of Halo 3, and give no credence to Hirai’s comments about the lack of power bubbling away under the case of their consoles.

    1. whatever@whereever.com:

The most powerful system in its generation does not always win. In fact, it usually does not.

In the last generation, both Xbox and GameCube were more powerful than PS2. But which one won the overwhelming biggest market share the end?

      Remember Dreamcast.

      Remember 3DO.

Only naive fanboys want to believe that the most powerful system will end up winning in this generation. Most likely, it won’t… as history has shown.

    2. David:

The system with the best games will win which is the PS3. Before you disagree tell me one big exclusive due out on the 360 in the future.

      Anything?

Here are some of the PS3s:

Metal Gear Solid 4 (bigger franchise than Halo)
      Littlebigplanet
Final Fantasy 13 (bigger franchise than Halo)
Gran Turismo 5 (bigger franchise than Halo)
      Killzone 2
Tekken 6 (bigger franchise than Halo)

    3. Starkar:

I don’t see people camping out at midnight to buy most of the games you listed, so I don’t see how they’re qualified as being “bigger” than Halo. The only two I see as bigger than Halo potentially are FF and MGS, and I believe Halo is bigger in the US than either, given the sales records Halo 3 has set. MGS just isn’t as ubiquitous as Halo, and I don’t think the RPG genre is as popular as the FPS genre in America. But I don’t see how it’s particularly relevant since you are talking about future exclusives and Halo 3 was already released. I own all three consoles, and of the games you list for PS3, the only ones I have any particular interest in are MGS4, and maybe Killzone 2 and Tekken 6. But I’m talking entirely from an American standpoint, and I don’t know the size of the respective markets, I don’t know if FFXIII will make more money worldwide than Halo 3 did, but it’s a ways off.

As for big exclusives due on the 360 in the future, off the top of my head there’s Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden II, Halo Wars, Blue Dragon 2, and Fable 2. The other issue is the shared games like Assassin’s Creed, Orange Box, GTA IV, RE5, DMC4, and Army of Two, among others. In the situation of the two versions being identical, I’m personally going with the 360 version, because I find Live preferable to PSN, and I prefer the 360 controller.

    4. Maylon:

Just stop talking Kaz, because its really not more powerful. You can put bullet points on paper all day, but in the end thats all they are. Most of the so called power you boast doesnt really apply to games, or how much can be drawn on the screen at any given moment. I am actually exhausted explaining this crap to fanboys, and refuse to go into posting specs.
Even if the Ps3 is more powerful on paper, its definitely by a minimal margin that will go largely unnoticed, even in exclusive titles (Lair and HS were underwhelming imho)

    5. imaballa:

Starkar, Final Fantasy each iteration have sold close to 10 million per sequel. Thats over 100 million copies sold total!
Halo 3 is targeted at a very small market, the FPS market. I know Halo 1, and 2 sold 15 million copies thus far in comparision to the Final Fantasy 100 million copies.

What I can see is the continuing trend of Xbox 360 only being popular in the US and PS3 will be popular globally. Now some of you will say who cares if Xbox 360 does well in the US? Well the cascading effect will be eventually developers will not want to develop for the 360 because of lack of global marketability. Since especially Japanese developers who make up like 90% of console based developers will not want to develop games for a system that will not sell well in their home market.
Thats why MGS4 and Final Fantasy is staying on PS3.

Software devs like Betesda and Epic are traditionally computer devs not console devs and based in the US so they will be more willing to develop for the Xbox 360 like the bulk of the must have titles on the 360 are developed by traditionally Computer game developers.

    6. Starkar:

What is your source that each Final Fantasy sells ten million? The only one I can find that has sold close to that is the seventh game, and it sold around 9.8 million, and that is including the sales of its re-release FFVII International (Source: http://na.square-enix.com/e306/titles/ccff7/)

It is speculated based off comments made by Microsoft about the overall sales of all three Halo games that Halo 3 has already sold 5.2 million copies, per this article (Source: http://uk.reuters.com/article/technologyNews/idUKN0438777720071005)

Ultimately, the sales of past Final Fantasy games isn’t particularly relevant to the success of the Playstation 3 (especially since they appear to be phasing out backward compatibility), so the series allegedly selling 100 million copies over Halo 1 and 2’s 14.8 million isn’t particularly important, especially comparing a twelve game series (plus games like Tactics) to a trilogy. But if you want to compare recent trends, Halo 1 and 2 combined (14.8 mil) have outsold Final Fantasy X (5 mil) and XII (3.68 mil) combined.

And I had thought the trend was that games previously exclusive to the PS3 were becoming multiplatform because the PS3 didn’t have a large enough of a user base, so the profit margin would be lower than desired. And I see the Japanese company Capcom producing games like Dead Rising and Lost Planet for the Xbox 360, and Resident Evil 5 is natively developed on the Xbox 360, and they made the previously PS3 exclusive DMC4 into a multiplatform game.

I also personally believe that MGS4 would be coming to Xbox 360 had Sony not thrown a lot of money at Konami, which seemed evident at the MG 20th Anniversary event with the new Sony MGS phone and such.

And it was my understanding that the console that does well globally was the Wii, not the Playstation 3. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’d thought the only market it was experiencing a modicum of success was the European market, though the price cut during the summer helped boost sales.

    7. Saber:

Games on the PS3 already impresses me more then the Xbox 360. PS3 is already showing the better system in terms of power, I can’t imagine later in the life cycle… I wouldn’t doubt that in a couple years from now, most games will be in 1080p where as the 360 is struggling in the 1080p support.

    8. Brandon:

      PS3 will win. Eventually.

The games already mentioned are a key element. Also, please don’t forget SONY is a Global Mulit-Media Conglomerate. PS3 is a true Home Media Center. An system that will play Sony dev Movies, Music, and Games. Did I mention they also makes CE products like TV, Stereo Systems, PCs, and even cell phones? What’s the relevance you ask? Is that, they are by far one of the most resourceful company in the world, and PS3 will bring all of that, together, into one. That’s the real vision. I’ve read somewhere, months before the launch of PS3, that the Cell Processor will somehow be able to communicate with each other. If your TV, cellphone, pc, and ps3 can all link up seamlessly, via a single type chip, imagine the possibility. Even a pro to the launch of PSP was strategically to get chip manufacturing down to 45nm, to save cost. Wii is just crap, a hype. I haven’t touched my in months. Especially after my HDTV upgrade, the graphic makes me want to puke.

This is a long fight, and they’ve recently IPOed to increase more leverage for this cause. I firmly believe with the unwavering of the ney-sayers, SONY will continue to dominate, and win out. Remember, in any culture, any fight, last man standing, wins. I predict Microsoft will be the next Sega.

    9. imaballa:

Starker, where the hell do you get your info??
      vgchartz.com
      PS1:
      FF VIII = 8 million
      FF VII = 10 million

      PS2:
      Final Fantasy X sold = 8 million
Final Fantasy XII = Estimated 5 million/(few months)

The pre-PS1 final fantasy span on Nintendo - SNES.
Total franchise units sold worldwide top 100 million past 20 years.

My point stands FPS cater to a much much much smaller market. I don’t even like FPS it makes me dizzy. I don’t even know anyone that enjoys FPS.

Why you ask I am talking about past Final Fantasy? Because this trend will continue onto PS3.

You only list Capcom, yes they are a multi-platform developer that decided to do this. So what? Where are the 100’s of Japanese console developers that developed for the PS2 creating games for PS3 as we speak???

      Excluding Wii: (different market alltogether(casual)):
Europe PS3 and Xbox 360 is neck in neck, Japan complete PS3 territory.
THUS: Xbox is only dominating US territory this gen and that is not going to last for much longer.

Starker, admit it the must have titles are mainly FPS with few exceptions on Xbox 360. Right??
Historically the must have titles on Playstations have been RPGs and Third Person view(god of war etc..)

the Xbox 360 and PS3 are catering to different sub-markets the winner will be which market is bigger the FPS, or the general market consisting of crazy Japanese games like GO!Suduko, Mahjong, RPG, and Third person games.

      Again,
I am not talking your personal favorite the general market.

    10. Dan1581:

imaballa, you are obviously a dumbass. Even in this article Kaz only points to blueray as the advantage. My question is how come all the multplat games so far have been better on 360 if it is inferior? Or why do 360 owner buy so many more games than PS3 fans? You can take all of Sony’s first party games, add up their total sales, and Halo 3 has sold more than all of them in one week. Think about what that says to developers when you (MS) have a console that has the most platinum games over 30 vs the PS3’s 2. You talk of dev support, well the 360 has more now and way more coming out honestly compare titles that will be released. Just remember the 360 will get them on time and at a better framerate (Madden 08 for ex). Your so blinded by your loyalty that you can’t read between the lines. The PS3 has several 20 + gig games that only last 5-6 hours (Lair, Heavonly Sword) with no multiplayer so I’m not seeing the benefit when the 360 manages to put out some epic games on one DVD just fine. Hell the only games that take up more than one disc have hours of HD cutscenes. PS3 fans always tout MGS and FF13 but those games come out in 08 and 09 for the later so what are you going to do in the meantime? Me I’m going to play Forza 2, COD3,Bioshock, Halo3, Gears, CAC3,Rainbow 6 Vegas, Dead rising, Fear, Lost Planet, Blue Dragon, Eternal Sonata, MOH airborne, and others while I wait on some of the exclusives that you overlooked for the 360. Mass Effect, Fable 2, Huxley, Lost Odyesy, Too Human, Gears of war 2, Spinter Cell conviction, Halo wars, and so on. So enjoy waiting beyond while me and all of your friends play on Live and laugh at your weak defense of the third place console. “I paid $600 and all I got was a DVD player with no HD cables” So STFU

    11. Ghost:

Going back to the article, I own both a 360 and a PS3 and after playing games like Resistance, MotorStorm, Warhawk, and Heavenly Sword, and Ratchet and Clank (demo) I have to say that the PS3 is more powerful then the Xbox 360. Before you say anything I also own Halo 3, Gears of War, and Bioshock. All are great games, but they got nothing on Heavenly Sword as far as graphics. I don’t know of any racing game on the 360 that can match the power of MotorStorm. Just watch the gameplay footage of MGS4 and all you’ll quickly see how much more powerful the PS3 is to the 360.

      http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/714/714044/vids_4.html

Click on the “Gameplay Footage” and turn up your speakers. If you still don’t believe me then prove me wrong by giving me a link to some gameplay footage of a 360 title that’s better looking then MGS4.

    13. The Nige:

Gamer, how many of those PS3 games are also on the 360? And how many of them were released before the PS3 version? You should have listed exlusives only.

    14. Gamer:

“Gamer, how many of those PS3 games are also on the 360? And how many of them were released before the PS3 version? You should have listed exclusives only.” - The Nige

The point I’m getting across isn’t what titles are exclusive. The point I’m getting across is that the PS3 does have a lot of titles already out. I’m tired of people saying that the PS3 has no games. Especially for a console that has been out for 10 months. You can add 15 games that list by the end of Oct and 21 more by the end of Nov. I’m sure the “360 only” owners will know which games are PS3 exclusive.

    15. Kingston:

Hey Dan1581, guess what? I own both a 360 and a PS3 and I’m perfectly happy with my PS3. Why do you have to put words in gamer’s mouths? You obviously don’t even own a PS3, so how can you speak for us PS3 owners? And when does a gamer ever care about which place the console is that he or she is currently playing? And isn’t that Wii console 1st place? Does that ruin your 360 gameplay knowing that its 2nd place now? You little kids make me laugh sometimes.

    16. imaballa:

Dan1581, look you imbecile if your going to retort, first don’t attack calling names, and 2nd make your retort coherent. Most of that garbage does not make sense:

“Think about what that says to developers when you (MS) have a console that has the most platinum games over 30 vs the PS3’s 2.”

What the hell does this garbage mean?? Is English your native language?

Okay let me break down your stupid diatribe:

Dan: “My question is how come all the multplat games so far have been better on 360 if it is inferior?”

imaballa: What evidence you have for “all” multiplatform is superior on 360 I only recall 2 or 3(Madden..) ?
These games are superior on PS3 confirmed by the developers as the premiere version:
      - Oblivion
      - Fight Night round 3
      - Call of Duty 4
      - Dirt

Dan: “why do 360 owner buy so many more games than PS3 fans?”

imaballa: Because there are twice as much 360 owners then PS3 owners duh idiot!

Dan:”You can take all of Sony’s first party games, add up their total sales, and Halo 3 has sold more than all of them in one week.”

imaballa: specify? all of Sony’s 1st party games? all of Sony’s 1st party games since PS1 - PS3 im sure out sold halo3 several hundred folds.
If you are talking about PS3 1st party titles you are dead wrong asstalker.
      According to tracker, and VGchartz:
Halo has sold 3.7 million thus far.

According to NPD sales figures: These 2 1st party games sold
      MotorStorm : 1.9 million
      Resistance : 1.8 million
      = 3.7 million
      Thats not including these titles:
      - Warhawk
      - Heavenly Sword
      - Genji
      - Formula 1
      - MLB the show
      - Lair
All of these together sold much more than Halo 3 sold so next time don’t guess idiot.

im not blindly loyal, I just dont like FPS. Why whould i get Xbox 360? I wont be able to play MGS4 or Final Fantasy my 2 favorite games.
I am willing to bet there are more of me “Non-FPS” fans, then you “FPS fanboys”

About dev support re-read my previous post you seem to not grasp the gist of what I was saying about Japan housing hundreds of console-based developers and lack Xbox flopping in Japan deter wanting to develop for Xbox.

Xbox has great Computer-based software developers but they are mainly FPS.

Again my main point there are more of “my” type of people than more of “your” type of people world wide.

    17. Maylon:

Wow imaballa, you must be on Sonys payroll with that much enthusiasm. By the way, if you bother to look it up, the 360’s attach rate has been higher than any of the current gen systems from the beginning, so you are the idiot. And just to point out one instance of a cross platform game looking better, you can cross off Fight Night, there was already a showdown between the two at the apollo theater last year, and the 360 won hands down. And as for exclusives, you actually had the balls to include Lair? Lmao!, even graphically it looks like a fucking slide show the frame rate is so bad on your beast of a Ps3.

“Your” type of people are apparently stuck in the past with archaic rpg’s and platformers. Its like MGS 4 and FF13 are the mantra for you freaks, and both ip’s are tired, tired, tired. FF series: I hit x button, watch movie, buff character, repeat. God just fuck off will you?

    18. Dan1581:

Maylon that was exactly what I was about to fire back with. To clear things up for you Imaballa the 360 has had 30 titles sell over 1 million copies so far vs the PS3’s 2 (Motorstorm and Resistance). For your point about Japan’s developers, read about Square Enix making 360 games, Capcom’s sucesses on the 360, and Ace Combat 6 to demonstrate that Japan is paying close attention to the 360’s user base. To put the whole “xbox only has FPS” game arguement to rest ask yourself which console has more RPG’s, Racing, Sports, RTS, and 3rd person games? To fill you in it is the 360. Next, to Gamer who tried to make a big list of PS3 content. Don’t think that list of arcade games and titles that have been on the 360 for months impresses it doesn’t, if anything it demonstrates the sad state that the PS3 faces when it comes to content. The 360 has three times the number of full fledged games than the PS3 not including the arcade titles. As for your upcoming games 80% of those are going to the 360 or are already on it. Check out Game Informers top 50 most wanted and you will notice that the most wanted titles are once again on the 360. If the PS3 is soooo freakin awesome how come they have had to fire sale and lower the price so soon after launch? The 360 didn’t have a price cut untill 23 months into its lifespan. I will admit the Halo 3 outselling all the Sony IPs was a bit dramatic but you have to understand that it is hilarious that Warhawk, HS, and Lair’s total sales so far are all under 300k each and even you can see that any of MS big name exclusives (GOW, Bioshock, Halo3, Lost Planet, Dead Rising) Have crushed them in sales. Now before you jump back to the whole well there are more 360’s in peoples home I know that. However the 360 even with more consoles has maintained the highest attach rate of any console in HISTORY. In fact it has generally beat the wii and ps3’s monthly software sales combined. If I were a developer that is where my focus would be and maybe that is why EA has chosen the 360 as its primary console, who knows? Name one game on the PS3 that has sold as many copies as GOW much less Halo 3. I loved that you used Genji as killer Sony ip, whats next mobile suit gundom as a demonstration of graphical superiority? As I stated earlier go watch a movie on you GAME console and STFU!

    19. Dan1581:

Oh crap I almost forgot you said there where only 2-3 games that the 360 had the edge over the PS3 let me help you out with that too. Rainbow Six Vegas, Call of Duty 3, Fear, Madden 08, NHL 08, The Darkness, and Splinter Cell double agent to name just the games that I have. Then there is VF 5 which on the PS3 doesn’t even have multiplayer. How about you explain the constant delay of PS3 titles while your thinking of what to say in return. Maybe it has something to do with 4d graphics, or historical crab battles, or RRRRRRIIIDDDDDGGGGGGEEEE RACING!

    20. imaballa:

Again you try to justify your answer with misdirection.
Definition of blockbuster hit: Game of the Year status, Sell over 1 million copies in a single quarter.

      Point A)
Dan how old are you? I feel like im talking to some snot-nosed imbecile.
Any title can sell over 1 million copies if you give it time. The
standard of measurement is sales per quarter. The first 360 title that
was able to achieve over 1 million units in a single quarter was Gears
of War that did 1.5 million units 1 year after the launch of the 360.
Resistance a PS3 LAUNCH title achieved over 1 million within a single
quarter as well as Motorstorm achieved over 1 million units in a
      single quarter.

      Point B)
There are hundreds of Console-based developers in Japan
most of them developing since the NES days. You only name a couple
that decided to develop MULTI-PLATFORM, in all honesty i can probably
count all of them on my left hand.
Yes Square Enix has side projects on multi-platform, but their flag
      ship product is on PS3.
CAPCOM’s flag-ship product Resident Evil will be concentrated on the
Wii(Unbrella, Res Evil 4 etc..), and multi-platform for RE 4.
Your realling reaching at this point. Ask any analyst and
they will tell you there is a clear lack of Japanese Dev. on the 360.
The point being (traditionally console-based software) mainly developed by
Japanese studios are cautious to develop for 360 because of several
      reasons:
      1) 360 flopped in Japan
      2) Japanese titles have not become blockbuster hits on the 360
      3) If a game like Dead Rising, Lost planet did good, but were not
blockbuster hits on 360 they realize they do not get that traditional
blockbuster success they have been used to on the PS2, that just means
the 360 audience is vastly different from the Playstation audience
which any fool can see that the two groups tastes are different.

      Point C)
No-one ever claimed 360 “only has FPS” the claim which is backed by
analysts, and X-play Adam Sessler that the majority of the “must-have”
      titles(blockbuster hits) are yes, FPS.
You list these categories: RPGs, Racing, Sports, RTS, 3rd person
      Racing:
Yes there are racing titles like Forza 2 which unfortunately for you
is not doing as well as its predecessor to even be considered a hit.(Its taking 2 quarters to even hit a million sales)
      RPG:
There is not must have RPG on the 360 that is a must have hit and
often criticized for lack of RPG. Oblivion was a great
action-adventure game with RPG elements but thats it, there are no traditional RPG games like Knights of the Old republic and final Fantasy.
      Sports:
Microsoft does not even have their own sports studio.
      RTS:
The past 3-4 years there has not been 1 RTS title on Xbox that
garnered the game of the year or blockbuster acclaim to be considered a
      must-have
      3rd person:
The only historically sucessful 3rd person is Gears of War. Thats it.
      Nothing else.

So as you can see as you name the various categories you are really
grasping for straws. The bulk of the must-have blockbuster titles will
remain FPS which on the Playstation it will be the opposite.
If the 360 was truly diverse it would have uniform sales in all territories which it clearly does not.

      Point D)
Where the hell do you see Warkhawk and Heavenly sword sales are less than 300k when the quarter numbers are not even out? The quarter is not even up yet, you must be clairvoyant, see the future or something. I only see the launch 1 day sales numbers on vgchartz. I am willing to bet WarHawk and Heavenly Sword will go on to sell over a million this quarter.
On the other hand you list Dead Rising and Lost planet, these games are close to 2 years old and each have only sold a little over a million each thats not that impressive.

      Point E)
You keep talking about games that were developed on 360 and ported to PS3 obviously usually the native platform will look better. Talk about the games that were built ground up like Oblivion was rebuild ground up for PS3.
Unreal Tournament 3 is being build ground up for PS3 independent of PC.
Call of Duty 4 also built ground up for PS3 the developers even said PS3 version is the premiere version.
Same for Codemaster’s Dirt developers have said PS3 version is the premiere experience, Xbox is terrible with framerate tanking to unplayable levels. Codemasters other highly anticipated game Jericho will be another example of a game built ground up for PS3 looking better.
Here is a case where a Xbox 360 port looked better on PS3:
Fight Night Round 3: (Review links provided after quote)
“As a whole, this PS3 port looks ever-so-slightly more appealing than last year’s Xbox 360 version. ”
      http://gamepro.com/sony/ps3/games/reviews/89231.shtml

“The graphics hold up on the PlayStation 3, with equally lifelike and technically impressive models that are slightly more detailed than on the Xbox 360.”
“Fight Night Round 3 for the PlayStation 3 does enough to give it a slight edge,.. ”
      http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/sports/fightnightround3/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=gssummary&tag=summary%3Breview&page=2

My point being, you said “ALL GAMES LOOK BETTER ON XBOX 360″ like a little MSFT BOT which is complete bullcrap. With newer games being developed ground up PS3 has had the edge thusfar you will get to see another example soon with Unreal Tournament 3.

What the hell is your main point? What are you arguing about?
That there are more FPS fans than non-FPS fans??
That Xbox 360 has more non-FPS must have titles than PS3??
That Japanese developers are flocking to the Xbox 360 more so than PS3??
Nobody in their sane mind will argue these points unless they are an idiot, well I guess your just that, an idiot.
Go play your TrashBox, oh thats right its getting repaired for Red Ring of Death.

    21. Dan1581:

The main point is for all the hype Sony put behind their $600 dvd player the 360 is kicking its ass. Argue that even though the 360 has been out longer that it isn’t out selling the PS3. NPD, VG Chartz, Next Gen Wars, and all the other analyst say that it is but maybe they were just bought off by MS. That is thing with you PS fanboys that kills me you just can’t admit that the 360 is a great console. I’m sure one day the PS3 will get its shit together and when it is worth while I might even pick one up. What I want to know is why should I now? There is no killer app out, the PSN is a joke compared to Live, I like action games (FPS, 3rd person), and for the price of a 60 gig PS3 you can get a bundled 360 with 2 games and an addition 2-3 titles like Bioshock, Halo 3, or GOW for the same price. As a gamer that has had all of the consoles since the 2600 days I perfer a system that has the largest variety of content how about you? Wouldn’t you agree that getting a great system and a bunch of games is better than waiting forever after paying top dollar? As for the rrod comment I only wish the internet was as wide spread back when all the PS2’s kept having disc read errors I know I went through three of them. At least if my 360 breaks I’ll get a new one for free versus Sony telling me that it wasn’t covered because the 90 day warranty had expired.

    22. Dan1581:

“As a whole, this PS3 port looks ever-so-slightly more appealing than last year’s Xbox 360 version. ”

Imaballa think about what is being said.
In an extra year of development on the mighty PS3 the game is only “ever-so-slightly more appealing” WTF

That is what you are bragging spending an extra $200 for? Yet I’m supposed to be the idiot.

Oh yeah and Resident Evil 5 is a much bigger prospect for Capcom than anything they are working on for the wii dumbass and it is naitive to the 360 so enjoy waiting beyond on another port from a so called inferior system bitch.

    23. Dan1581:

With all the debate about whether PS3 graphics are better than Xbox 360 or vice versa, BioWare prez Greg Zeschuk thinks it’s much ado about nothing. When all is said and done, he thinks that PlayStation 3 and the 360 are pretty much equal.

“At the end of this cycle, I don’t think there’s going to be a big difference,” said Zeschuk in an interview with Eurogamer.

“If everyone’s waiting for this huge gap, it’s just not going to happen. By the end of this generation both PS3 and Xbox 360 will look awesome. Maybe 1 per cent of the population might be able to tell the difference between the two.”

And don’t get him started about how you can’t fit a great title on just a single DVD. He mentioned three games that kill that theory: Bioshock is on one DVD, as is Mass Effect and Gears Of War. And you don’t hear too many people complaining about that trio.

    24. imaballa:

Dan, look at you, you know your beat and have nothing much to say but call names. See I can do that too you little bitch, dumbassbackwards TrashBox lover.
I can see the desperation oozing out of the xbox fanboys why can’t you just love your games and hush instead of getting a napolean complex.

Thankyou for re-pointing out that a straight code port like Fight Night Round 3 from a 360 to PS3 can still look better. It wasn’t even built ground up like Oblivion was.

Hey dumbass read the news Capcom have shifted majority of their development to the Wii get a clue. The reason Resident Evil 5 (which will be developed ground up natively on respective console retard) is coming out in 2009 is just that, they shifted over 60% of resources to the Wii. Get a clue idiot.

Blah blah Bioware prez said this n that:
      1) Bioware is in a contract with Msft to develop a exclusive title, they will not talk ill of Msft.
      2) Bioware another traditionally PC developer have yet to even work on or understand the technology behind the PS3 so his opinion is a 3rd party opinion just like your worthless opinion.

I really think you xbox fanboys really are intimidated by the PS3’s potential.
Jeeze I have to teach some noob xbox fanbots:
      Point A)
We already talked about development trends, both platforms have unique genre strengths and contrasting audiences (such as you and me) so success will depend on which audience out numbers the other. We all know the answer to that.

now to your next point of your claim PS3 and Xbox 360 are equal in Technology:
      Point B)
      Accolades:
      - International Engineering Association have awarded the PS3 as the most technological innovation of the year.
Xbox 360 has never recieved any aclaim even close.
      - EISA association also awarded the PS3 acknowledging PS3’s technological achievement.
Both of these organizations are heavenly run by Engineers. guess what? I take Engineer’s word over yours.
Just a few days ago, even:
askmen’s:Top five electronic entertainment ‘must have’ devices included the PS3. No Xbox.

Now you may ask so what if its technologically superior how does that play into games?
      PHASE 1)
This past year many of you Xbot’s criticized the lack of quality on PS3 games, EVEN THOUGH developers have pointed out they are straight code ports from 360 - PS3 and probably will not yield any improvements. However Fight Night Round 3 did, amazing eh?
      PHASE 2)
Currently games like Call of Duty 4, and UT3, and Dirt, Oblivion where games are built ground up for each systems you see the PS3 version is superior.
      Nice progression for PS3.
      PHASE 3)
2008. Games like Killzone 2 is possible. You may ask what is so special about killzone 2?
Let me give you a very high level capability of the PS3:
      PS3 is capable of 2.0 Teraflop(yes TRILLION!)
360 is capable of 240 Gigaflop
What FLOP means: Floating Operation Point(Basically how many crap can be done at one time)
How this relates to Killzone, each level in Killzone 2 contains 2GB of textures on top of textures(if you don’t know what texture is, its the things on the screen that makes games like Gears of War look detailed and realistic).
      This means 2 things:
      1) You cannot use a DVD9 format(360’s) when one level’s texture use up 25% of 9GB DVD disc.
      2) Okay, say some dumbass decides to make a 360 game and fits 1 2GB level and the game engine on a DVD9 disc, You still need a processor that can perform 2GB worth of textures at once on screen. Thats where the 2 TeraFLOPS come into play. See, getting the picture?

Okay you now need to shut up about how DVD is sufficient because out of the trio (bioshock,Gears,MassEffect) of which game looks the best? Gears of War.
All three games use Unreal Engine, however Gears of War was made by the people who made the Unreal Engine. Guess what they said? Gears of War just fit exactly on DVD9 format. You know how long the game is? 5-6 hours long, yes crackhead they would like to have made it longer but ops sorry, we ran out of space.
Did you hear about the one about Project Gotham racing 4? Yup you guessed it, they also said ’sorry we ran out of space so we had to delete some stuff and it was so we couldn’t put it on a 2nd disc’
When you have humongus engines like PGR4 and Unreal you can’t put half of it on another disc, tsk tsk… thats going to be a problem.

So my point as time progresses this will only become a problem as games look better and better its inevitable and its happening so quickly.

Guess what Xbox Fanbots! You all are getting your wish!
#1 Xbot’s complaint: PS3 is too Expensive: The price is down to Xbox level
#2 Xbot’s complaint: PS3 straight ports look same: Current games built ground up look better
#3 Xbot’s complaint: Not enough games for PS3: There’s over 150 games comming out in the next 7 months!

Hey Xbot’s rejoice your wish is comming true! Cheaper PS3, better games, and more games! Rejoice!

    25. ron howard:

#1 Xbot’s complaint: PS3 is too Expensive: The price is down to Xbox level

Really? Where do you live? PS3 is still more expensive than the MOST expensive 360, the Elite.

#2 Xbot’s complaint: PS3 straight ports look same: Current games built ground up look better

1 or 2 Sony financed titles have surpassed 360’s best visually, but the gameplay isn’t so good. Sony is willing to spend a ton to get the Cell chip in the game, but 3rd party developers are taking a pass.

#3 Xbot’s complaint: Not enough games for PS3: There’s over 150 games comming out in the next 7 months!

Why are you Cell chip implants always talking about the future? There’s almost 300 Xbox 360 games out RIGHT NOW. More than 80 that review 80% or higher, according to metacritic. Rejoice indeed!

As far as 360 users buying more games only because of a larger install base, you’re simply wrong. 360 has an attach rate of just under 6 games, while PS3 is less than 1. 360 had an attach rate of 3 after it’s first year, so explain that away.

Lets talk about now. 360 has, by far, the largest game library of any next-gen console. Wii and 360 are GAINING developer support, while PS3 keeps losing it. Don’t bet your cell thought chip on ANY third party title staying PS3 exclusive, as Konami has already warned Sony that they need to sell a ton of PS3’s to keep them happy.

“Cheaper PS3, better games, and more games! Rejoice!”

Cheaper, as in not having the features Sony solidiers have been shaking with joy about? 2 screen support, gone. Half the USB ports, gone. Memory card readers, gone. Backwards compatibility, gone. You never got the HD cables with your HD system. Isn’t THAT a rip!

Better games? Better than what? Huge bluray disc gives you shorter games (Lair, Heavenly Sword) and less tracks (Motorstorm). It’s amazing the amount of space a 6 hour game can take up when it isn’t compressed. It’s like a fat Uncle sitting on your couch, big and useless.

More games? YAY! Lets hope they aren’t cr@ptacular like most PS3 games have been.

OH, one more thing. Are you still waiting on that ‘free’ online service that’s just as good as Xbox Live? LOL You can’t even chat in half the games, no cross title chat or invites, and there are very few online titles. Have fun.

    26. imaballa:

Ron howard your a bigger idiot than that other idiot Dan. Wow I never knew you Xbots want so much from PS3 I guess you guys really want it that bad.

Ron :”Really? Where do you live? PS3 is still more expensive than the MOST expensive 360, the Elite.”
imaballa: last time i checked elite costs $449, Bestbuy inventory shows 40GB for $399.

Ron:”Why are you Cell chip implants always talking about the future? There’s almost 300 Xbox 360 games out RIGHT NOW. More than 80 that review 80% or higher, according to metacritic. Rejoice indeed!”
imaballa: man I knew Xbots were low down dirty liars but you take the cake. I went and checked out your source metacritic and 1st of all there are only 264 Xbox 360 games dumbass, and only 71 of games got 80% or higher retard.
How come you didn’t mention the fact PS3 has 29 games that received 80% or higher, almost half the amount Xbox 360 received.
      Heres the kicker:
      PS3 has 83 games total:
      29 80% or higher
28 70% or less Craptacular games
      VS.
      Xbox has 264 games total:
      71 80% or higher
126 70% or less Craptacular games

Hey it looks like Xbox 360 has way way more craptacular games almost TWICE as much as it has good games!
PS3 has less craptacular games then it has good games, hey looks like a great ratio buddy!
So your comment about “craptacular like most PS3 games…blah blah” its more like Xbox 360 has the most Craptacular game CONGRATULATIONS you WIN!

Uh huh, 3rd party taking pass… like UT3? Haze? oh your talking about Monster Hunter? well last time I checked they didn’t even consider Xbox 360..yup. It looks more like 3rd party support is gaining as time goes on, compared to last quarter.

Please provide your source for attach rate sounds fishy.
Hey stupid PS3 hasn’t been out for a year yet its only been 10 months, on the 360 about this time not a single game sold over 1 million units in a quarter a la MotorStorm and Resistance.

I got my HDMI cable for $5. Can you say you can get your stupid quickcharge and rechargeable batteries for $5s, you Microsoft tool NOW THATS A RIP! Why talk about memory card readers when Xbox 360 does not even have them, nor can you use a mouse and a keyboard for FPS’s NOW THATS A RIP!

What are you talking about? In all the online multi player games available on you can chat, and send invites. obviously you don’t know what you are talking about.

This is way to easy tearing down the assbackward inbreeded dumbasses. Is that the best you got? Jeeze no wonder you retards are willing to buy a console with 33% failure rate thats 1 out of 3 going bad! Thats real bad! Horrible.

    27. omicron:

      PS3 sucks that is it.

    28. Imballa:

But even then the KZ2 textuers looks lowres and blurry and n mapping is used at all.
      But This means 2 things:
      1) You can use a DVD9 format(360’s) when one level’s texture use up 25% of 9GB DVD disc by compression of the textures.
      2) Okay, say some dumbass decides to make a 360 game and fits 1 2GB level and the game engine on a DVD9 disc, You still need a enough RAM to hold the textures that can hold 2GB worth of textures at once on screen, but then KZ2 has 2GB for a level and only a fraction is visible at any time.

Okay I now need to shut up about how DVD is insufficient because out of the trio (bioshock,Gears,MassEffect) of which game looks the best? Gears of War and it fits the DVD9 disc perfectly.
All three games use Unreal Engine, however Gears of War was made by the people who made the Unreal Engine. Guess what they said? Gears of War just fit exactly on DVD9 format. You know how long the game is? 5-6 hours long asweel as HS which is 6 hours long to.

Guess what PS3 Fanbots! You all are getting your wish!
#1 Zombies complaint: Xbox is too cheap
#2 Zombies complaint: Xbox straight ports look better: And current games built ground up look better
#3 Zombies … thats going to be a problem.complaint: Not enough games for PS3: There’s over 150 games comming out in the next 7 months but most of them are old games or PSN mini games :(!

But hey Zombies rejoice your wish is comming true! Cheaper PS3, some good games, and more games! Rejoice!
