PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii win T3 awards - Appeasing fanboys everywhere

T3, the gadgets website, held their annual back slapping awards ceremony to give out prizes for the best gadgets of the year a few days ago. The Sony PS3 won Gadget of the Year, the Microsoft Xbox 360 won Best Gaming Gadget and the Nintendo Wii won the Gadget Candy award. I’m sorry but that looks like a way of trying to appease the fanboys for each console by equally sharing the plaudits out amongst the big three.
However often I’m accused of being an (insert console name here) hater and an (insert console name here) lover, I try to maintain a neutral status. Almost every article I write for Gamer.Blorge.com ends up with me being accused of favouring one next gen machine over another. Whereas in fact I think all three of the big players are fine machines, with some good points and bad points on each.
But it does wind me up that T3, which is a respected website, has basically sat on the fence, and admitted to it, over the latest battle for console supremacy. I’m not accusing T3 of artificially affecting the award results in any way, but I do think they’ve made it possible for every console to get a piece of the awards pie.
The PS3 won the big award, Gadget of the Year, being cited as THE best piece of technology to emerge in the past year, but it came second to the Xbox 360 for Best Gaming Gadget… that doesn’t make sense to me. The Nintendo Wii, despite (or maybe because of) being the best selling console so far, got the booby prize of Gadget Candy, it’s subtitled ‘One for the ladies’ so make of that what you will.
To me this seems like an effort to keep the peace. Well screw that, if one console is deemed better by the judges than another, then say why! Fanboys are entitled to feel how they do and rip anyone who criticizes their console to shreds, and they don’t need to be mollycoddled by companies and websites trying not to upset anyone.
I’ll come out and say what I think right now…
The PS3 has so far failed to deliver. At the moment it’s a cheap Blu-ray player which just happens to also play games. Sony has screwed up their marketing and advertising so far, and the thing is just too damn expensive to have mass appeal.
The Xbox 360 is a great games machine, but the Red ring of Death harmed it’s reputation in my eyes. Also the fact that it’s made by Microsoft doesn’t help, as like the Japanese, that doesn’t fill me with much confidence. The constant refining of the hardware and problems with DVD space are going to get tiresome before long as well.
The Wii is a nice console, but it is a cheap and cheerful games machine, with a relatively limited lifespan. I applaud Nintendo for the innovative control system and low price, but graphically, it’s only slightly better than a Gamecube, and that console sucked ass.

The PS3 is a European built luxury car that maintains its value for many years.
The Wii is a train ride, it’s fun for a while but once the line ends, there’s nowhere else to go except back.

The 360 won the award because it had the best games for 2007. The PS3 is obviously a better piece of hardware which is recognised by its overall winner award but its 2007 lineup isn’t very good. Next year I would expect it to win the console of the year award.

Um hello who ever wrote this um the they are putting the new chips in the xbox 360s as we speak so yeh no more RROD so get over it because that will not be an problem any more so find something else and dont say also because of MS doesnt help well I want you to know they know what they are doing unlike sony all they talk about know is making these gay looking phones. You know what if it wasnt for MS you couldnt make this stupid passage, you know what your probably using a windows based computer unless your using the crapy Mac. MS is a good company giving what its buyers want unlike sony they dont give a crap about there customers.

Well at least we can all appreciate this writers honesty on the consoles…I respect what the writer says about the graphics of the Wii but I think it is far more capable than the writer is giving credit for. Consider the games Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. A third party game that actually impressed me with the graphics is the upcoming game Medal of Honor Heroes 2. The Wii is also more powerful than the orginal X-box (granted not by much). My second console choice would be the 360. I think there are many good hardcore games for that system but the innovation offered is more or less repetitive. However I still admire the system. As for the PS3 I will admit that the graphics are quite incredible for that system but honestly that is all that it has impressed me with. The sixaxis controller to me is an attempt to slightly copy the control design of the Wii. I have yet to see any killer games for the system and the price point is worth a Wii and a standard 360 combined. So I’d rather get to game consoles than one for the same price. Overall I rank in order of 1. Wii 2. 360 and 3. PS3…so thats my personal review of the consoles. I respect anyones right to disagree but this is my opinion.

You sound like a fanboy, mac os is not that bad actually I’m using a Mac and it’s great don’t have to worry about virus because I’m always going on some website and downloading stuff and dont have to worry about it..About sony customer service, in my opinion i think it’s much better i dropped my psp once and i just had to talk to them for about 5 min and told me to just returned it to them and they gonna send me a new one unlike MS..I’m trying to return my 360 and i had to wait for about an hour when they returned my xbox it broke down on me for about a week and returned it again..Thats why i trust sony’s product and Apple they are reliable unlike MS..

Apparently, 360’s got a massive bus.
And apparently, the Wii is one hell of a train ride, and i’ve been on that train for quite a while.
And the ps3 is limited to those people that actually care about luxury european cars.
So according to your analogy, everyone is gonna get on the train and bus, while only the rich stick with luxury cars. That don’t exactly retain their value anymore. Who cares if a car can play blue ray disks when it has square wheels? (analogy to ps3’s amazing tech yet lack of any worthy games)

The PS3 is more like an expensive car that runs on E85 gas; it will probably gain more value in the future when fuel for it is more readily available across the country, but get it now and it will be almost useless as a car.
And I also really love train rides.

get over this loser fanboy bashing of everything that doesnt come from whatever camp you represent. I own a 360 and a ps3 after all was said and done the 360 cost the same as the ps3 (had to add wireless, and a hard drive) they both are ok but get real you losers , they are just gaming consoles, nothing earth shattering there.
ok, the blue ray was a nice touch, Apocolypto in 1080p on a 165″ wall screen is pretty fantastic.

All the people saying the PS3 has no games are going to have to find another thing to attack the PS3 for next year because in 2008 it has ALL the big games. Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy 13 and Tekken 6 to name a few.

Fanboys are hilarious.Such narrow minded gamers they are.I happen to own a Wii and a 360.Iv had the Wii since Christmas and the 360 since it came out.Guess which one I play more.No wait,let me rephrase that…Guess which one I play.Yes you got it! The 360.After I finished Zelda the second time I never really turned my Wii on again.Only because im a gamer though.You see the Wii has one great game whereas the 360 has about twenty. I realy want to have a reason to play my Wii again but there just isn’t any incentive.Its crap! I’ve spent more time playing geometry wars in the xbox arcade then I have playing alll of the games I’ve owned on the wii.But wait…they’re releasing geo wars for the Wii.Oh hang on, they’re also going to implement the new cool Wii control into it.I realy hope they dont screw it up like most developers have on the wii because it wud be a shame to ruin such a good piece of cheap software.Hurry up Nintendo and release Super Mario Galaxy before everybody like me gets boree with ur product.
As for PS3 I will rent it just for Heavenly sword and maybe buy it for the sake of Unreal 2007

Hey fellow gamers. Its a shame you all argue about this topic. Sony and microsoft both have a plan. Microsoft’s plan was to rush its console onto the market. Remember the ps2 was out a year b4 the xbox, and the 360 was out a year b4 ps3. that tells me something. sony ps2 lasted 2 years longer all by its self. not the ps3 is here and sony aint rushing anything. they deliver the best hardware mixed with the best games. GT5 has over 400 ppl working on it everyday just to name some detail. This adds up to advanced games. Ones you cant find on any other system. If you are basic then get whatever you want. If you are advanced and want all your gadgets to work together like my phone camera and ps3 do. then stick with PS’s and Apples. They have mastered connectivity between devices. I get a lot out of my ps3. not because im rich. cause im not. but because i enjoy the features it delivers. I can play an intense battle on warhawk (where 1 map is bigger than all 15 on halo3) or i can go to the laundromat and while im waiting i can log into my ps3 from any wireless access point and play ps3 games on psp. or i could just play psp games. overall the features the ps3 has is beyond any device let alone the wii or the 360. they are a high european sports car. but i love fast cars.
