Wii is scaring off third party developers which rule Xbox 360 and PS3 land

Wii is scaring off third party developers which rule Xbox 360 and PS3 land Everyone knows the Wii is selling like hot cakes, you’d be hard pressed to find a Wii anywhere but Nintendo is once again having trouble with third party developers.  Many of the games and certainly most of the top sellers on the Wii come from Nintendo itself which could be bad, in the long run.

Cnet talks about a hypothetical situation which could easily become reality.  It boils down to what all the people that have bought a Wii are actually doing with it.

Are they playing it and continuing to play with it or are they playing it until they get bored with it and graduate to a console that actually has more good games from more third parties, say, a Xbox 360 for instance (or PS3 but let’s be honest, there is only one or two good games on the PS3).

One line of the article grabbed my attention, in particular, “Sorry to say, graphics still matter, and because the Wii is lacking, some walk into a room, play with it for an hour, tell everyone how fun it is, and go back to their PS3 to marvel at the look of a game.“  If only the PS3 had more than two good titles that would have been an apt example.

The possibility that people are buying Wiis and playing them for a short period and then forgetting just what that little white box did in the first place is scaring off several (but unnamed) third party developers.

This exact same thing happened with the N64 as well as the GameCube and if Nintendo can’t get the third parties onboard, at some point, the Wii may end up becoming the next GameCube, I know, GameWhat?

Are you really so stupid? Nintendo has not made most of the games for the Wii. Chist, come up with better trolls John, it’s not that fucking hard to count.

  2. Larry:

Yes, but the only truly big sellers are nintendo games. Twilight Princess, Mario, Metroid, Wii Play, SSB, etc. I can’t name a single big selling third party game. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll always own a nintendo just for those franchises. I bought my Wii at launch just for TP :)

  3. The professor:

yep this blog is officially the most biased on the internet

one or two good games on the ps3? there arent as many as the shitbox3fixme, but you seriously need to take Bill Gates’ cock out of your mouth

“Sorry to say, graphics still matter, and because the Wii is lacking, some walk into a room, play with it for an hour, tell everyone how fun it is, and go back to their PS3 to marvel at the look of a game.”

Wow, was that ever a stupid fucking statement that a mega graphics whore would say! This blog is so stupid, it saddens me.

Third parties are being scared off by Wii?!?!? They’re flocking to the system! And away from PS3 I might add. Seriously, stop bending over for Billy Gates.

  5. demon64:

Wow. Apparently Jonathan hasn’t been reading ANYTHING lately. There are now more third party companies developing for Wii than either 360 or PS3. As for third party titles that are selling very well – hmm, let’s see: Resident Evil 4, Rayman, Spiderman: Friend or Foe (possibly the best Spiderman game yet), Madden NFL 08, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08, Metroid Prime (better than Halo and yes I play both), Streets of Rage 3.

You may not like all these games or even any of them, but reviewers and customers love them and are buying them up.

Pull your head out Jonathan and quit being so blind.

  6. Rebma Boss:

Jonathan, I admit that you have to earn money, so no worrys there. But if you were offered $10 to write a good article for the XBox 360 or the PS3, or $20 to write a good article for the Wii, you would be willing to praise the Wii, right?

  7. joe:

Looks like this article really hurt some Wii fans feelings. Maybe he hit a nerve?

  8. nightshadow:

    @joe:

    No, he just lied.

  9. demon64:

Hurt some Wii fans feelings? What are you smoking?

I’m a 360 nut but I can still read. Anyone not living in a cave knows that Jonathans comments are complete bs. You don’t have to be a Wii fan to smell shit dude!

There’s this really cool new tool called Google, you might try using it to find out what’s really going on with third party developers, or you could just stick your head in the sand like this guy and pretend it’s all gonna go away…

    …idiot.

  10. big dic in ya sistas slutty head:

tha ps3 is so fukking shit its cuming last hahah wot woz it 122.000 against the 360 wot um 550.000 everyone HEY everyone if tha 360 sold good in japan they would win this battle nuff said but hay then again 96% of tah computas in tha world run on microsoft software thoze cunts r so rich i bet tha u.s would b getting scared lol its enevitable microsoft with its 360 . 720 . n so one will win out right n foreva more sooner or lata . . . .

  11. wiggy:

The PS3 isn’t even worth buying, even the $399 40gb model. There’s no games I’d buy for the thing. If anything, THIS will become the next Gamecube.

  12. Amadeo:

    Okay everyone, calm down….seriously.
It is a fact that at the moment the wii is dominating the market. I think this came as a shock to a lot of people who had bought into sony and its marketing machine.

Its only natural that people will pick a side in anything…we are a tribal species by nature. But lets only use the facts here. The wii is doing phenomenally well. It is actracting an audience that has never really bothered with gaming before.

The ‘360 is satisfying the need of the traditional gamers, by giving them what they are used to. And the PS3….well we shall see.
Surely both the wii and 360 can coexist in the market? Each giving a different group of people what the want…The gaming market is huge at the moment and having 2 succesful machines isnt going to lead to oversaturation.

  13. Andrew:

I would bash Jonathan Schlaffer’s face with a frying pan for being such a cocktwad, but judging by his photo, it looks like someone beat me to it.

  14. Dean:

Guys, read the latest article by Dave Parrack on the same site. Looks like Schlaffer got owned.

  15. Jack:

Check out his photo! A dick…lol!

  16. Mii:

    what the hell???

there are currently 100 games being developed for wii, more than as much as xbox360 ans ps3 compared…….only about 15 of these games are from nintendo, so i think he is stupid (personal opinion)

by the way, no-one gets bored of wii…….there are no evidence…….

also……..who says that 3rd party developerd have better games than nintendo, nintendo’s games totally rule, both ds and wii rule over psp, xbox360 and ps3,that’s because of nintendo games so…… SHUT UP!!!!

  17. ed:

He just writes this stuff to up the hit count towards the end of the month. As bias as his anti Nintendo stance always is… you have to admit his unique view on the subject of the wii’s untimely demise for lack of HD graphics, of quality games and now 3rd party support sure is funny. I know he cracks me the hell up! I mean pure genius I honestly could not makes this stuff up if I tried!

  18. Nathan:

Nice to know Xbots are alive and kicking on the internet. Sure the 360 has more 3rd party games. It has about 2 good shooters and 40 rip offs. What diversity!!!

  19. Danny-X:

    Nathan:

It also has that knock-off of F-Zero, which even Wii doesn’t have a sign of getting.

  20. Munaf:

Admittedly the Wii’s graphics are nowhere near that of XBox and PS3 but the true strength of the Wii, along with the DS is that they both are incredibly easy to use and are therefore being used by normal people as opposed to hardcore gamers. I think Nintendo is actually expanding the gaming market not just going for the hardcore gamers. Ultimately 3rd party games and software for the wii would be nice (I wish Nintend would allow 3rd Party Created Channels for example) but ultimately I don’t think it will lead to collapse in Wii sales.

  21. Palermo:

So where do you get your data? check the coming soon section at EBGames and you’ll see that 3rd parties are going all wii for this holiday season.

  22. e:

    Amadeo, well said!

Jonathan, I’ll say this as politely as I can, but I don’t know how realistic graphics have to be for you. I finally got around to looking at some Wii screenshots–good graphics!!

And let’s not forget, if you, you personally, had to choose between the PS2 and the GameCube (or the Wii, for that matter), I’m almost postive you would pick the PS2, even with it’s worse graphics.

  23. Fred Hollow:

The Wii is very fun to play. I actually sold my Xbox 360, because while some of the games do have better graphics than the Wii, the Xbox 360 jsut doesnt compare in the fun stakes. You just cant beat a group of people acting in strange ways with the Wii remote. The unique ways of playing the games on the Wii are what make it a long term winner. Good graphics may date with age but fun is neverending & the Wii has plenty of fun to last a long time.

  24. wishfool:

Just wanted to point out that you hold the Wii to a comparison of the 360 but seem to exempt the PS3 from it. Why is that? Ohh, it has the uber graphics……..

The 360 has been out for a year so naturally it would have more games. It seems foolish to compare the Wii’s lineup to the 360’s and call foul this early based on that comparison alone.

The captured the market and developers by surprise. If there are not any good 3rd party games(released or announced) come Feb-March, then this will be justified. However, there are announcements and games coming, and one 3rd party game has jumped the Sony ship to Nintendo’s camp (Monster Hunter 3).

All these analysts or whatever they are seem to be determined that they will make the Wii fail by calling it a failure. Give it up and wait for it to appear readily on shelves before you bolster the ‘Wii is doomed’ propaganda.
