The PS3 has achieved a sales comeback in the UK over the past week, with figures suggesting Sony enjoyed a 178% upturn in console sales. Whether this is just a temporary blip in the PS3′s fortunes thanks to the introduction of a cheaper 40gb model, or whether they’ve actually turned a corner for good remains to be seen.

Wedbush Morgan Securites analyst Michael Pachter is predicting that the Xbox 360 will have outsold the Wii by 25,000 units in September. The reason for this sudden Microsoft success? Why, Halo 3 of course.

T3, the gadgets website, held their annual back slapping awards ceremony to give out prizes for the best gadgets of the year a few days ago. The Sony PS3 won Gadget of the Year, the Microsoft Xbox 360 won Best Gaming Gadget and the Nintendo Wii won the Gadget Candy award. I’m sorry but that looks like a way of trying to appease the fanboys for each console by equally sharing the plaudits out amongst the big three.

As if the question of whether violent video games affect children hasn’t been asked and answered numerous times before, the UK government has decided to conduct a study on the opinion dividing issue. Not only will this dredge up the tired old question yet again, and allow tabloid newspapers to splash accusatory headlines over their front pages, it could harm sales of PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii consoles as parents again start to worry about what their kids favourite games are doing to their heads.

The developer of Assassin’s Creed, one of the most hotly anticipated games on both the Xbox 360 and PS3, has come out and criticized both consoles and more specifically how hard certain aspects of developing for them are.

When the next generation consoles were all originally announced, I’d have put money on the PS3 emerging as the early victor, with its already huge installed user base of PS2 owners. What I didn’t foresee was the Nintendo Wii kicking both the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360′s asses. So why has this surprise result occurred?

Capcom has decided that the PS3 is too costly to develop for and decided to make the forthcoming Monster Hunter 3 a Nintendo Wii exclusive. Only a month after announcing that the company would be switching development work from the PS2 to the PS3, Forbes has reported that the company has decided the latest Sony machine is just not worth their while, and that the Wii offers a much more viable option for them.

Now that Xbox 360s with the new smaller and more reliable Falcon chipset are rolling off the production line, it seems Microsoft are already lining up a replacement. And this baby could potentially steal the Wii’s market, and leave the PS3 expensive and floundering.

A survey from PopCap.com reveals 60% of caregivers don’t let their teenage girls play hardcore video games like Halo 3 and Bioshock. Conversely, they are nearly twice as likely to allow their teenage sons access to the same games.

If you’ve played Halo 3′s online multiplayer, there’s a good chance you probably have a few problems with the way it matches players, maps, and game types. It turns out that Bungie’s looking out for you, and it issued a secret, silent update for multiplayer matchmaking today.
