PS3, Firmware 2, not even 1 critically needed fix
The vaunted PS3 firmware update goes online tomorrow, and saying it’s a disappointment would be like saying a tin opener would make a very poor Terminator.
The bulk of the improvements are to the XMB (Cross Media Bar), with such sensational upgrades as the ability to change the XMB background. Amazing as it is that the PS3 can now access revolutionary "Make the screen display different colours" technology, the wonders don’t end there with the facility to turn your PS3 on and off with your PSP. Assuming you own one as well – as you can see they’re really reaching beyond their usual "I worship Sony and will buy anything Playstation" hardcore fanboy market.
Of course it doesn’t matter what colour your XMB is when you magically turn on your console through state-of-the-art "remote control" technology, because you still can’t access the damn thing in-game. How this dashboard-a-like got released without that ability, never mind how an update after pretty much every fan in the world has already said "We’d like to be able to do that" doesn’t have it, is a mystery that leading videogame designers may never solve. Sony’s seems to have a reason though.
Other crippling absences include the lack of online communication improvements (as reported by Engadget), and by "online communication" we mean "online communication like XBox Live has been doing forever and how the hell can you not have worked this out yet". It’s really unfair to hardcore PS3 users – after all, they’re rare enough and probably sick of watching Spiderman 3 by now, preventing from even talking to each other just seems cruel.
The ps3fanboy report is utterly unenthusiastic about this update, and when a website called "PS3fanboy" isn’t excited about your PS3 upgrade there’s a fair chance that you’re doing it horribly wrong.

Nice propaganda there, Luke “paid by Microsoft” McKinney.
It’s disturbing that Microsoft is overcharging it’s loyal “I worship Microsoft” fanbase, yet these loyal idiots such as yourself continue to beat the Microsoft drum.
Microsoft should take a cue from Sony and make it’s online free. You should hope that the PS3 does well and maybe one of these days, you won’t have to pay for your online play – hopefully.

I have yet to see any true positive thing said about the PS3 or Sony for that matter on this site.
The ability to turn on and off the PS3 from anywhere in the world is the biggest update of them all.
You understand I can access my PS3’s harddrive anywhere in the world via wi-fi to watch movies and play ps1 games.
The biggest grip with remote play was you had to leave your PS3 on before going somewhere.
Now you don’t have to plan anything, as long as you have your PSP and feel like watching a movie or playing a PS1 game all you have to do is turn the PS3 on remotely and access the PS3 remotely as well.
Its an awesome update, most of the review sites are already complementing this update. You just gotta be a Microsoft Tool and spin this negatively. Typical.

Hey yeah your sweet Luke. Now we all know the PS3 should have had a fukin screen saver from day one out of the box so i can obviously see the constructive criticism, But seriously your job is to inform whats in the update not tell us how shitty the update is, we can figure this out ourselves when we get it even though that doesnt make any sense to your weak microsoft mind. If you want to go bash PS3 then hop on Xbox Live and play some halo 3 with all your M$ Cock sukin friends besides Halo 3 is probably the only game youll find them playin cause halo is the only good exclusive for xbox all others are on PC.

Dude, this update is a lot more than that, you are just a hack who wants to spin it out. By the way, I see Adblock Plus is blocking your ads…Wow, another great reason to avoid Microsoft garbage…my firefox is blocking stupid 360 fanboy idiots.

There is only one thing that needs a critical fix Luke….your brain

I think that the tighter integration with the PSP is a pretty cool feature. Inclusion of playlists for photos and music is very welcome and way overdue.
IMO, this update beats the socks off previous updates.
Can you surf the Web on your XBOX? I doubt you care, as you seem quite fixated on the XBOX features that haven’t made it to the PS3. Oh and what about that 1 in 3 failure rate for XBOX’s. That feature hasn’t made its way to the PS3. I doubt you’ll get too fussed about that either.
The PS3 XMB isn’t as good as in XBOX… in game communications not as good as in XBOX… get over it! There’s a lot of good stuff in the update.
Your article seemed more like a fanboy rant (or M$ propaganda) than an objective assessment of the update.

It’s so funny to listen to these people fight about one system over another. Tell you the truth I think 360 is not all that great, but I do agree with Luck here. They should have focused on the more important things in the update, although with this update it is pretty sweet. I think anyone who brings down PS3, Wii, or the 360 are ignorant. They probably do not even own the system they are hating on. So, people please remember to be smart before posting. All the systems have it’s flaws and great points. It all depends on what interests you. Only if someone could make that perfect console. It would be a HP all-in-one, lol. anyway, enough with my rambling. My point is, make sure you look a everything at different point of views, and see the good in everything, instead of posting hate messages.

Go fuck yourself you stupid ass retarded bitches. You fucking Xbox 360 cunts. The PlayStation 3 is the greatest console out there. You motherfuckers, just wait and see until later firmware updates will fully tap the PlayStation 3’s full potential. You fucking gay ass Xbox 360 fags. Suck a cock you losers. Or, go back playing your shitty ass fucking Halo 3.

Shills and fanboys abound.
360 & PS3 give me divx, xvid and mkv playback ability.
360 where is that quieter drive and 65nm chip and architecture.
And all console makers your games should be half the price of new games.

PS3 is dead. Its over. Let it go. 360 wins this round, as the PS3 circles the drain.
