Sony revitalizing the PSP with Playstation Store access through your PC
By Emilie Branstetter
Along with these seasonal upgrades for the Playstation 3 and its online store, Sony has taken some time to do the same for the PSP.
With the one year anniversary of the PS3 we’ve seen a firmware update to help with system stability, a Playstation Store update for the PS3, and price cuts on the 40 GB unit helping sales along. Now Sony has released its Playstation Store for PSP users who do not own a PS3. Accessible through the internet, users can cruise through the store on any PC.
Themes, wallpapers, and game demos can all be downloaded from the Playstation Store along with direct download games. The most exciting feature is the addition of original Playstation games for play on the PSP. This feature is expected to be regularly updated with titles ported over from the PS1.
Sony’s new store will function the same as the existing store for the PS3. Users can even use existing accounts from their PS3 for PSP purchases. Content can then be directly downloaded into the PSP using its USB port and cable.
For anyone wanting to see this right now, the site is already up at http://store.playstation.com . I give bonus points to Sony, due to the fact that they have even posted a how to video on using the site and downloading the features to your PSP. The video can be seen on Sony’s blog at http://blog.us.playstation.com
