Sony boss Tretton: PS3 leads development, Xbox 360 & Wii follow
In the past week I’ve heard nothing but ill-informed rhetoric coming out of the mouths of Sony executives and industry analysts. The PS3 is this, the PS3 will achieve that by then yadda yadda yadda. Now it’s the turn of Jack Tretton to add to the BS coming from Sony’s ass mouth.
Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, gave an interview to IGN, and it was a fairly average affair, detailing his time in the job, and how the PS3 is fairing compared to its rivals, the Nintendo Wii, and Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
The interesting part came when he was asked about how third party developers could make their cross-platform games look as good as (the admittedly impressive) Uncharted, Ratchet, and Warhawk. he replied:
“We hear better and better things from the third party publishers everyday. We are meeting with them on a regular basis and are getting a lot of feedback from them in terms of their needs. We are now starting to see developers creating games on PS3 and then porting them to other platforms such as EA’s Burnout.”
“Developers are telling us that they are starting to create their games on PS3 first and take advantage of the hardware capabilities and then port down to other platforms so we are seeing tremendous progress from the third party community in terms of what they are able to do with our development kits.”
Okay, so Burnout and? AND? Oh, that’s it. Some games companies will choose and use the PS3 as the lead console to develop for, and then port down the games to its competitors, but to claim that the PS3 is already the leading development platform is a bit over the top for now.
I don’t know anything about Tretton’s personal life, but if he is as premature in his personal life as he is with his statements on the state of the games industry, I feel sorry for his wife.
It seems that Sony think that by stating the mantra that, the PS3’s fortunes have already turned, in public enough times, will actually make the gullible consumers believe it, and make them immediately vow to buy a console and join the crowd. Saying it doesn’t make it true, whatever Tretton and his cohorts may think.
