Nintendo Wii Wins 2007 Customers’ Choice Award

By James Walker

Wii Reevoo, a group that collects ‘genuine reviews’ from actual purchasers of a product, has awarded the 2007 Customers’ Choice Award to the Nintendo Wii, despite the widespread shortages of the console leading up to Christmas.

The Wii achieved an overall score of 8.78 out of a possible 10. To compare, Sony’s PlayStation 3 scored a 8.25, while Microsoft’s Xbox 360 scored a 7.65. The Wii also won the award for best game titles, with a cumulative score of 8.08, with the Xbox 360 scoring 6.81 and PlayStation 3 scoring a 5.71.

Many customer reviewers praised the Wii for its usability, child friendliness and exercise potential. The PlayStation 3’s strong points, according to the consumer reviews, included the integration of Blu-Ray which also helped Sony’s console on its price point. The Xbox 360 scored favorably with graphics and design, though scored poorly in other areas. One reviewer described the Xbox 360 as “heavy as my nan after she’s eaten an entire elephant.”

“The Wii has been an absolute phenomenon this year and Nintendo would have cleaned up if availability had been better this Christmas” said Reevoo CEO Richard Anson.

Demand for the Wii was overwhelming for Nintendo, causing a massive console shortage. Outlets like GameStop went so far as to issue a ‘rain check’ program for people willing to pay the price of a Wii now in order to be guaranteed one by the end of January. Other retailers took advantage of the shortage, selling their stock on eBay rather than in their stores.

So the people have spoken, and the Nintendo Wii is your king.
