Readers’ choice: the top Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 games of 2007

December 31, 2007

Readers' choice: the top Xbox 360, Wii and PS3 games of 2007 Instead of telling you which games were the top console games of 2007, we here at GAMER.BLORGE decided to do something a little different, and ask you, our readers, what your top picks were for 2007.

As usual, we were somewhat traumatized by some of the reader-added options to the poll. 9% of you thought that pornography was the best console game of 2007, and one reader (who’s IP address we have tracked) suggested that a very unpleasant sex act was this year’s best console game.

Of the 690 respondents, a small, but significant, number selected Space Invaders as this years best console game. Obviously, we have a few older readers (yes, you know who you are), who still think 70s arcade games give next generaytion consoles a run for their money. Me, well, I’d rather have a PS3 or Xbox 360 (or even a Wii) than a cranky 1970s arcade machine.

Ok, without further ado, here are your top ten games of 2007:

1. Super Mario Galaxy (voted for by 21% or respondents)

This will come as a blow to PS3 and Xbox 360 fans, but clearly Super Mario Galaxy – a platform game – came out on top because there are just SO many Wii fans. I guess brilliant game play also had something to do with it.

2. Call of Duty 4 (15%)

A worthy number two – a very nice first-person shooter that showcases just what can be done with the decent hardware of the Xbox 360 and PS3.

3. Halo 3  (10%)

I would have been surprised if Halo 3 wasn’t in top 10. Yes, a great first-person shooter for the Xbox 360, but it would have made the top ten on hype alone.

4. Bioshock  (7%)

Very well received first person shooter/ role playing game for the Xbox 360. I guess that’s the Xbox 360 doing what it does best.

5. God of War II (6%)

Nice to see a PS2 action/adventure game in the top 10. This game won won a Golden Joystick as PlayStation Game of the Year 2007.

6. Mass Effect (5%)

Action role playing game for the Xbox 360, which is said to have sold more than a million copies in less than three weeks.

7. Assassin’s Creed (5%)

Available for both Xbox 360 and PS3, this third-person stealth game offers a very interactive environment — though it’s had mixed reviews.

8. Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction (3%)

This shooter/platform game is said to be one of the best games released for the PS3 to date; though only 3% of respondents agreed with this.

9. Guitar Hero III (2%)

Well this latest instalment in this bizarre franchise – available for PS3, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 – does indeed prove that air guitar is a very popular pastime in bedrooms around the world.

10. Super Smash Brothers Brawl (2%)

This Wii game isn’t due for release, but thankfully due to time travelling and/or physic readers, it scraped into position number 10. Go figure.

Well, looking at the games in the top ten, it does appear that the Xbox 360 has more than its fair share of popular titles. This may be because it’s been around longer than the Xbox 360 or PS3. It’ll be interesting to see how the Xbox 360 fares once developers really come to grips with the PS3 and the Wii.
