ELSPA: 90% of American Nintendo DS owners are pirates
Thursday, January 31st, 2008
According to the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publisher Association’s Intellectual Property Crime Unit (or ELSPA IPCU, for those of you in the know) manager John Hillier, 90% of American Nintendo DS owners are playing pirated games.

Sony’s net profit rose by 25% in the three months up to December 2007, and the gaming division posted a profit of 12.9 billion yen, reversing last year’s loss due to production costs. But despite these increases, Sony have cut their unit sales estimate for the PS3 for the rest of the financial year.
We reported on this just this morning. Tyrone Spellman aka Anwar Salahuddin was accused of killing his 17-month old daughter for breaking his Xbox 360 and has been found guilty by a Pennsylvania jury.
The game did it. That’s what we here a lot these days when video games are involved in any way with a crime. This case is slightly different however. Tyrone Spellman aka Anwar Salahuddin allegedly killed his 17-month old daughter over a Xbox 360 console.
Microsoft’s Vice President of Global Xbox Marketing, Jeff Bell, firmly believes that Microsoft is setting itself to be the console of choice for those Nintendo Wii owners who are ready to graduate to a full gaming experience.
Information coming from a “reliable inside source” has said that Sony will replace the phased out 80GB PS3 with one containing a 120GB to 160GB hard drive. The company will supposedly still offer two versions of the PS3 and keep the same pricing scheme.
The Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft has made a much needed profit over the past year, but how much of that was down to the performance of the Xbox 360 is unclear, as sales are actually on the way down.
The Playstation 3 is currently in a definitive third place, way behind the phenomenally successful Wii, and quite a bit behind the Xbox 360. Good Christmas sales figures have increased confidence at Sony however, and there’s a feeling that good things are around the corner.
