Can the PS3 overtake the Xbox 360 in 2008?
With Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema both announcing their plans to go exclusively Blu-Ray, this could be the momentum shift the PlayStation 3 needs to push past the Xbox 360.
The announcement that both Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema would exclusively go with Sony’s Blu-Ray HD format caught everybody by surprise, and gives Sony a definite advantage in what has been dubbed the “format wars†over HD-DVD. But how does this help Sony in its console war with Microsoft’s Xbox 360?
For starters, anybody who has yet to jump into this generation of console gaming is inclined to lean towards the PlayStation 3. With more and more studios now opting to go exclusively Blu-Ray, the built-in player that brought upon the ire of every anti-Sony gamer for being forced upon consumers now seems like an ingenious marketing move on Sony’s part. Compare this to the Xbox 360, which forces you to spend an additional [PRICE] for a separate piece of hardware, and consumers will go for the convenience of built-in High Definition playback.
But these recent developments, which have all but murdered HD-DVD, are only part of a larger picture that is playing itself out. 2008 finally marks the release of some of Sony’s top-tier titles: Gran Turismo 5, LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, and of course Metal Gear Solid 4 are all due in 2008, as well as Sony’s answer to Second Life – Home. If Home winds up being everything Sony has made it out to be, it may vault over Xbox LIVE as the preferred online service.
Another factor that may help Home be propelled over Xbox LIVE is LIVE’s seeming unwillingness to actually work. Over the past week we at GAMER.BLORGE have kept tabs on Xbox LIVE’s apparent meltdown, earlier today passing along the news that a couple of angry and jaded gamers have actually gone so far as to sue Microsoft. This will only add fire to the anti-Microsoft PR nightmare the Xbox 360 camp is going through. Remember, this past summer Microsoft received a lot of heat from gamers for the “Red Ring of Deathâ€, three flashing red lights signifying a critical system error that has killed your console.
2008 is truly shaping up to be the year of the PlayStation 3. While it will probably not match the Wii in the coming year, but the only way Sony could possibly falter is if they wind up shooting themselves in the foot.
Which, as we’ve seen with SIXAXIS, is entirely possible.

Dude, gimme some of what you are smoking! I really don’t see how the Warner announcement is going to stall 360 sales enough for PS3 to make up an over 6-7 million console deficit. Not gonna happen! In Cincinnati, you *cannot* find a 360 Premium. At Best Buy there was not a single 360 in stock yet *gobs* of PS3′s.
January 6th, 2008
Very funny article. Must be living in an alternate universe. How is Sony goin to make up 7 million sales in one year? The xbox 360 sales will go past 20 million this year. No doubt there will be a price cut, and perhaps even upgrades.
Remember its the games not the blue ray format.
January 6th, 2008
I was hunting down GH3 all holiday season and noticed there were no Premiums or Elites in stock, anywhere. I even searched Circuit City and Best Buy locations in a 50 mile radius and only the “Arcade” models were in stock. I thought it was just a coincidence but after reading your post I’m thinking the 360 sold like hotcakes!
January 6th, 2008
This is a rant,
How many people bought the xbox 1? 20 million? Lets say 30 million for arguments sake. PS2 sits over 100 million.
Fanboys exist, hell I’m one of em and I’m a Sony one. The 360 is for the hardcore gamer and in reality all it is, is a PC shoved into a smaller box that can play games and make them look all pretty. Sure it can do other stuff, so can a PC, again MS has milked you suckers for every cent. Let’s not even talk about it’s faults.
So the question is: Can the PS3 overtake the 360 in sales this year, 2008?
No it can’t but it will steam past in 2009.
There is nothing left for the 360 and if first person shooters are its big seller then its already has it’s niche market and it will not grow beyond Halo/Gears of War.
That’s why the PS2 sold so well, not only because of the DVD player but because the pure difference in genres of games, think about it, not every one likes shooting shit, and not everyone likes collecting xp points to spend on magic abilities, different strokes for different folks, the 360 does not cater for these other folks, Nintendo does and Sony do and all you need to do is look at Ratchet and Clank and also Uncharted, which similar to the shooting style in Gears, everyone who has played it so far says that it is the best looking game out at the moment, no question.
So even if 50 million of the more than 100 million PS2 are fans of Sony then all they are waiting for is a price drop because we know the games are coming, we know what Sony is capable we also know they can be the biggest bunch of pricks but things are going good at the moment, the PS blog is keeping folks in touch with the developers which is cool, probably not for them but for us it is.
A little while ago Threespeech.com said that Little Big Planet and KZ2 won’t be out until after September or October which should coincide with a price drop. No need to drop the price now, they’re not competing with anyone apart from Nintendo where MS are competing with themselves.
end rant

you guys are such jealous 360 fanboys, and warner bros and new line are deciding to go blu ray exclusive, this is no rumor, it’s all true, and they rather go on blu ray cuz it’s selling way better than the hd dvd, also some analysts of the Hd format war said that hd dvd should die, and blu ray should continue on, this is no joke they actually said that, were not talking about consoles, it’s hd software, and plus it’s true that the ps3 will get the best games, and 360 will suck big time, and it’s time for playstation’s comeback revenge!!!!!
January 6th, 2008
No, but it will fly past in 2009.
January 6th, 2008
I would like to know what studio(not owned by Sony) that went exclusivly to Blu-Ray. Is that all that Sony is relying on, a format? How about some games for a change. Sure they got KillZone 2 coming out, but Killzone 1 sucked. MGS4 coming out, but rumors coming out 360 a year later. And Home, dude it has alrdy been delayed twice, how much longer? Besides 360 will have ipTV. And as for Live being down or should I say troubles, considering Live was NEVER DOWN DURING HOLIDAY BREAK. Wow two weeks, PSN is still dwarfed by the 360 Live service. O yeah look it up… 360 has outsold ps3 every month since PS3 launch with the exception of 2, the launch month was one of them. Get someone who knows what he is talking about and not someone who is a dude that says the same old stuff. Games sell the system not the hardware. I got a 360 for video games not to watch movies, if I did, then I would get a PS3
January 6th, 2008
Yeah, Dolf and Peter, who would believe that the PS3 could catch up to the 360 when the PS3 has been outselling it world-wide for months now? Not to mention 360 throwing out the big guns in 2007. Nothing Microsoft has rivals the sales of Gran Turismo. MGS4 also sells in the millions and let’s just say, if Guerilla gets the Killzone 2 gameplay up to par with the visuals, then we’ll have another multi-million unit seller.
January 6th, 2008
New Line, Warner they make MOVIES NOT GAMES so who gives a fuck unless you bought a ps3 as a cheap blu-ray player. Not gonna change the fact that Ps3 still has no games. Play a 360 and a PS3 without ever playing either of them or knowing about anyone of them. You dnt even know which ones which, honestly what will you chose.
January 6th, 2008
@: david
i fail to see your logic. Killzone 1 sucked so that automatically means the sequel will suck? guerrilla learned from the mistakes and made an awesome psp game: killzone – liberation. david, you look it up, ps3 has outsold the 360 for abit now. the only place the 360 sales arent flat is in the uk and n/a. look it up. “Games sell the system not the hardware” – and the ps3 has sold 9 million units with apparently “no games and high price”, which was the common media spin and anti-sony person rant. i like how you feel the need to bring up iptv yet talk about how you got it to play v/g and not for movies. so whats left now, oh yes. you 360 mgs4 rumours, lmao. pathetic. one of the many 360 owners still clinging onto that rumour which konami keeps shooting down. go play some mass defect, kid.
January 6th, 2008
you got to be joking lmao sony ****ed up on the gaming end big time
January 6th, 2008
And by studio I mean a Game developer, not a movie maker. I got a console to play games not to watch movies.
January 6th, 2008
Well lets look at it this way. Customers that see they have the option of buying a $349 Xbox Premium if they do their research will see that for only $50 more can purchase a HD Disc player in the winning format (Blu-Ray) with the PS3. If they see what their options are for obtaining a Blu-Ray player in addition to an Xbox then they will see that they have to buy a separate stand-alone player or buying the HD-DVD add-on which is effectively an obsolete product now.
On the other hand we can assume that all consumers looking to buy a Blu-Ray player this year (no more HD-DVD) will see that one of the cheapest ways to purchase it will be to buy a PS3 which they will be enticed by the fact that it doubles as a next gen game console as well so we have a separate stream of new consumers joining the PS3 family.
Now let’s look at worldwide the installed base and trends for the 3 major regions:
In Japan the PS3 is already dominant over the 360 in its home turf and with the big releases coming out this year in addition to the DVD format confusion being over will see an even greater lead over 360.
In Europe consumers are very weary of defective hardware and culturally Sony has a very strong brand name there as well. The combination of that in addition to the big releases will build the weekly sales lead that the PS3 has already established over the 360 and will likely match or surpass the installed base of the 360 by the end of 2008. (look at http://www.vgchartz.com for this data)
Now in the US where the 360 has its strongest installed base your going to see a combination of the Blu-Ray format, big releases, and the fact that the 360 will hit a wall in terms of development due to the inclusion of only a DVD drive take hold in driving up sales of the PS3 to pass the 360 in weekly sales.
I’ve heard reports that Microsoft is already shifting one of its planned 1st party sequels to the next Xbox already so it does not look like they have too much confidence in their prospects for 360 for this generation anymore which is a shame given their track record of only supporting their consoles for a 4-year life cycle where Sony goes for a 10-year life span. Let’s not forget the Tivo like thing coming to the PS3. So you get a Games machine, a full 1080p HD movie player, Blu Ray of course, soon a Tivo like ability to record shows off T.V, esseimtally a DVD recorder, that’s three off the shelves products packed into one product.
Sony wins.

Exactly, it is about games. No bias, I own both, but what games – besides possibly Gears 2 and… Lost Odyssey, does the 360 have this year? I’m not jumping to any conclusions, but 2007 was the, in my opinion, apex of the 360′s software dominance… And now it seems to be Sony’s turn, with some enormous heavy hitters, like the aforementioned games: KZ2, MGS4, GT5, LBP, FF 13/ Versus
January 6th, 2008
The xbox 360 needs upgrades to keep the momentum going. Otherwise, the PS3 will eventually catch up as developers learn the system better. And with Blu ray becoming the winner, I think more developers will definitely look at the ps3 as the install base picks up.
My problem with SONY online service is voice chat not being available in most of the games. The PSN store still need improvement in organization. And of coarse more better games big and small. Renting movies would be nice too.
Hopefully, HOME will address some of these issues when it comes out. Rumble is back. There is a good deal of potential here.
Maybe the xbox360 will go through a design change and add a dual drive. Add blu ray with use for games. New controllers with motion sensing.
Both need better servers.
January 6th, 2008
Who said anything about stalling, this could push the PS3 sales much higher seeing how HD-DVD is almost out of the picture and consumers can finally decide on one format. Since the PS3 comes with BR and the 360 doesn’t, which console with the BR format would consumers pick, that is if they wanted a BR player?
If everything works out for Sony this year they could catch up or get very close to the 360. But, I don’t see them surpassing 360 sales this year, probably next year, if it ever happens.
January 6th, 2008
I agree with Jared regarding games coming to the PS3 this year.
Remember, the xbox360 had a bad start for games the first year too.
Competition makes for better gaming systems.
January 6th, 2008
How about a new improved Wii with a better graphics card for HD gaming and Blu ray and internet.
They can call it the Wuu or the Woo!
January 6th, 2008
I bet sony can tie up, with it’s 2008 games comin out. Also since developers are start to use the Ps3 for lead consoles, the game will look awesome and lil better than the 360. And the online on Ps3 is this good. With home comin soon it should be better. One thing it took 360 2 year to get where it is now and Ps3 half away from. KILLZONE,littleBIGplanet, MGS4,FF13(both)

@ Aaron
Great post. True ,true, true.
January 6th, 2008
Just on hardware alone the PS3 is far superior to an Xbox however as we’ve all seen with the PS2 software is more important than power and that is where Microsoft has the advantage. There is no doubt that Microsoft is a (for the most part) an amazing software company. I truly think that Xbox will have “the games” but the current hardware will make the initial purchase less attractive than that of a PS3. Overall Microsoft has the software and Sony has the hardware and unless the Xbox is changed to run better I believe people will go with a PS3 simply because Sony knows its hardware. That is why I’d choose a PS3 over an Xbox, the hardware quality.
January 6th, 2008
This “article” is littered with baseless commentary and little, if any, factual evidence.
“anybody who has yet to jump into this generation of console gaming is inclined to lean towards the PlayStation 3″
Did you actually pay to go to clown college to come up with this baseless tripe?
“Compare this to the Xbox 360, which forces you to spend an additional [PRICE] for a separate piece of hardware, and consumers will go for the convenience of built-in High Definition playback”
Or come to the realization that video on demand is the future, not Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. The Blu-Ray / HD-DVD battle won’t be decided for another two years, at least, and it sure as hell won’t determin the winner for this generation.
January 6th, 2008
Sony is smarter than you all, so just shut up with your ignorant comments.
January 6th, 2008
Blu-ray Vs HD-DVD who cares…?
I’m a gamer, who owns a dreamcast, 360, ps3 and a wii, I don’t care about watching hd dvd’s or blu ray dvd’s I’d rather be playing a game or playing games over xbox live. (xbox live is far better than sonys psn network at present by the way)
Actually on hardware alone the PS3 has better processors, a worse graphics card, a RAM bottle neck which slows the whole thing down so its slower than the 360, because it got blu ray it is slower at reading the data from the disc (is this why ninja gaiden asked to be installed? and why the ps3 needs a hard drive ?).
Hardware spec are’nt everthing just look how the wii / re-branded gamecube is selling. the xbox 1 had better specs.
Its all about the games, the numbers, the diversity and quality.
January 6th, 2008
I agree with gajo. How ignorant can you be? Can you not see how this announcement by Warner will affect the Xbox 360 sales? With people entering the high definition era, they are now more inclined to buy Blu-Ray. Playstation 3 has a Blu-Ray player. Xbox 360 doesn’t. Obviously it is going to have some profound affect on the Xbox 360 sales if all they are offering is an external HD DVD drive.
If a gamer would like to watch Blu-Ray and play next generation games. Which console do you think they are going to pick?
January 6th, 2008
This people are all dumb fanboys. Now that HD DVD is basically obsolete Microsoft biggest nightmare they might be force to include Blu-ray Disc drive for the Xbox 360 for future games they will needed. Gears of War 2 i bet is gonna need more than 9GB and Mass Effect 2 they not always gonna be compressing data. Plus Microsoft is facing a lot trouble with the massive Xbox Live holiday problem. And with Nintendo’s Wii supply problems Sony’s right open for a healing start especially with games like Metal Gear Solid: Guns of the Patriots, Gran Turismo 5, Final Fantasy XIII, SOCOM: Confrontation, Little Big Planet, inFAMOUS, Uncharted 2, Home, Haze, SingStar, Killzone 2 and many more Microsoft better get ready this is an assault of video games exclusive to PLAYSTATION 3.
January 6th, 2008
Its over and every1 knows its….I remember 2007 being filled with Articles saying ” Is PS3 the new Dreamcast”, “SONY doomed to 3rd place in console war”….Now all I see is “2008: Year of the PS3″, “Is it possible for the PS3 to overtake the 360″…YES IT IS! I remember the PS2 being in a similar situation….and we all know how that turned out 115,000,000 consoles later. All the people who wrote negative articles about the PS3 are just hopping on the bandwagon left and right….. I haven’t watched G4 in awhile, so I’ll see what they have to say about Warner, and I bet they will some how manage to say that this is not bad news for the 360.
January 6th, 2008
Wow PS3 three products in one, Blue Ray, Games Machine, IP TV etc… PS3 wins.
Wrong! Wii, Plays Games, Games, Outsells PS3 3-1 at the very least. Wii wins.
January 6th, 2008
Blu-ray tranfers data at 36 mb/s HD-DVD tranfers data at 36.55 mb/s
Huge diference i must say
January 6th, 2008
Sony didn’t even sell 10million PS2′s until the price fell below $200. Who really gives a shit that it plays BluRay discs. I entered the HD market 6 years ago with a Mitsubishi HD rear projection set and I still don’t care which format wins because I download my movies or watch them on Directv when I have the time but usually Ii am gaming. When the PS3 hit $199 – $250 I’ll probably pick one up with a game or two if there are any good ones by them.
January 6th, 2008
The PS3 only needs to outsell the 360 by an average of 130k a week this year to make up the deficit and overtake the 360. It outsold the 360 by 60k just last week and that’s when it isn’t selling well and the 360 is at the height of its popularity. The PS3 is actually outselling the 360 every week worldwide. A lot of US readers don’t seem to be aware of that. Last week the PS3 outsold the 360 6:1 in Japan and nearly 2:1 in Europe.
PlayStation is a vastly more popular brand than Xbox and there are literally over 100m people who have still to get a next gen console who are almost certainly waiting to get a PS3. If they want an Xbox what are they waiting for? 360′s are already cheap and have loads of games so why wait? The reason is they dont want one. They want to play Metal Gear, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Wipeout, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, God of War, The Getaway and all of the other games they originally bought PlayStation’s for that they cant play on the xbox.
The PS3 is almost certain to overtake the 360 either by the end of 2008 or by mid 2009.
January 6th, 2008
What does a movie studio going to one type of DVD format have to do with GAMING?! Are you jokers serious? I hope most of these posts are from foreigners or else America is in trouble ’cause we really are stupid. I really think it’s foreigners making comments ’cause most posts you read, the individuals can’t write properly. It makes me think it’s people writing English as a second language (Ahem! Japan). Excuse me, I had something in my throat!
January 6th, 2008
Blu-ray/HD-DVD means nothing if you don’t have a $1000+ HDTV home theater system, and still a large number of families use standard TVs and DVD players. The Wii has been outselling both consoles, and yet deosn’t even play DVD movies. And stand-alone Blu-Ray players are much cheaper than a full console.
And the X360 exclusive releases in 2008 aren’t bad either: Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2, Lost Odyssey, Banjo Kazooie 3, Splinter Cell Conviction, Halo Wars, Halo Chronicles, Infinite Undiscovery, Too Human, Gears of War 2, Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, Cry On, and many others, which covers more than just the FPS according to Sony fanboys.

“They want to play Metal Gear, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Wipeout, Jak & Daxter, Sly Cooper, God of War, The Getaway and all of the other games they originally bought PlayStation’s for that they cant play on the xbox.”
Most of these have better multiplatform or exclusive counterparts ie Splinter Cell, Virtua Fighter, Forza Motorsport, Banjo Kazooie, Ninja Gaiden, Crackdown ect

NO NEW NEWS HERE
microsoft sold 11 millions xbox 360 the first year
microsoft sold 6 millions xbox 360 the second year
its really clear the sales are going down
how many xbox 360 will microsoft sell this year… 3millions?
January 6th, 2008
Wake up guys, of course this is going to happen. With games like MGS 4 and FFXIII coming out it’s a given fact that the playstation 3 will sell like crazy.
January 6th, 2008
You people might not have realize it yet but more people than you think use bluray and actually care what companies are going exclusive to it. Another thing is that i was watching this guy on youtube saying HOME is not going to be better than xbox live which i want to point out is that he’s just an xbox 360 fanboy, I mean if HOME was on xbox and i am a ps3 fanboy i would actually give it alot of credit to it. As far as games go there are going to be some great games on both systems but i think ps3 will get this year’s crown and by the way developers havent reached ps3 full potential and there just using small amout of ps3′s power, take uncharted for example it’s an amazing game and the graphics are amazing and it still didnt reach ps3′s full potential just imagine what future games will look like.

@Paul S.
thank you. you may be the smartest person here. people are still going to buy standard Dvd’s-most families aren’t going upgrade everything in their house just to watch a friggen blu-ray on a ps3-
as for games, in my 360 collection i have games from all genres-plus im looking forward to the many games ’08 has in store like alan wake (horror survival) ninja gaiden 2(hack) Halo Wars (rts) and Fable 2 (rpg)-
so i really dont see why anyone would buy a ps3 for the few games they have that ARENT first party…which is pretty much just metal gear and tekken(overrated) which both may come to the 360 anyway

“people will be swayed to the ps3 because of bad Xbox Live service and no Wiis in stock”-
um…B.S.-this is the first time in 5+ years Xbox Live has had downtime-and if a person goes into a store wanting to buy a wii, theyre not gonna say “i think ill pick up a ps3, which is 200 dollars more expensive than what i wanted for my 4 year old who wants a Wii”
January 6th, 2008
I have the ultimate solution. BUY BOTH!!!
January 6th, 2008
Personally I’ve never owned a console, but was a PC gamer in my youth. Recently, I brought a new HDTV, so I decided to bite the bullet and get a console. The PS3 won hands down. Firstly it replaced my aging Windows Media PC and my DVD player, so I can now upscale and watch Blu-ray. I can load ubuntu Linux which gives me Pc functions in the living room. And hopefully it will get me back into gaming ,especially driving sims!
And best of all its whisper quiet!
As a 35 yr old person, gaming wasn’t the main purpose for getting a console. It was a device which ticked all the right boxes, offered me all my needs and looked great under my telly! PS3 2008!!!!

vg chartz is crap, and all you sony airheads are deluding yourselves.
January 6th, 2008
In the book of life 2007 was a very interesting page, and now a new page has been flipping(2008) let us read.
January 6th, 2008
LOl @ using gamechartz!!! They tried saying Ninty solkd 4.4 Million Wii’s during the month, december i think – when nintendo admitted they cant make more then arouchly 1.5Million per month.
With a Wii not even hitting the shelf befor its sold, its not like there is any back stocfk to make up for it
Also – VGChartz frequently completly changes their ESTIMATES when NPD or MediaCreate or the big three release new sales figures
SO if ps3 fanboys are going to celebrate a 10-30K lead of ps3 for one month only as reported by VGChartz…
YOUR ALL GOING TO BE IN FOR A RUDE SURPRISE!!!
January 6th, 2008
You americans are all idiots if you guys are stupid enough to buy into this format war! This is just the industry trying to sell you a slightly more expensive dvd disk.
Why not download a HD movie then stream it to your HDTV? War over.
January 6th, 2008
Who would buy a console from a company that releases software full of bugs ?!
This same company thinks they can then release a piece of hardware with reliability problems !
This same company doesnt even provide an in-built HDDVD player, or WiFi, and makes their muppet customers fork out loads more money!
This same company then makes you pay for an online service which then crashes.
Whoever buys a console from Microsoft needs a good slap round the head.
Microsoft should stick to what it does best, making crappy software products.
Its healthy having competition but Microsoft are going the way of SEGA. Apart from SEGA made good games.
January 6th, 2008
everyone who is defending the 360 by saying that it has sold more than sony is wrong. sure, the 360 has sold better every month except 2 against the PS3, but dont forget the PS2. The PS2 is still selling more than the 360 and the PS3.
So what happens when 120 million satisfied PS2 owners see a price drop for the PS3? they’re gunna buy one. Obviously this war is a lot closer than the last, but I think we will see the Wii win this war, followed by PS3, and followed by the 360.
January 6th, 2008
–ps3 is better –shitbox is )shit)–there r so menny things beter ime 2 lazy 2 write .so if bill gates has not paid you 2 git rid of your common sence then you will no wat they r alreddy !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
January 6th, 2008
This is huge.. HD DVD IS dead meaning this soo called 360 ultimate that was coming out is now not possible.. this means that xbox is now just gonna develop games on the old small memory format standard dvd… which as we can see has already reached its potential.. Blu ray has more memory space ps3 is a more powerful system.. now its just a matter of time before developers get their head out of their asses (COUGH EA COUGH) and use the ps3 and the blu ray the way it should be used.. Blu ray makes it possible to have more realistic games with more content and longer and bigger levels or worlds.. bye bye xbox aka suped up ps2.. standard dvd psshhh grow up
January 6th, 2008
360 has 512mb ram whereas ps3 only has 256mb ram therefore ps3 need to compress memory on to the bluray disk. By forcing the ps3 to constantly do this causes really bad frame rates. Even though ps3 has the power for great framerates this is the main reason why every 360 game looks so much smoother than its counterpart.
January 6th, 2008
I think the whole discussion is MOOT. There is a reason that the 360 was only given a three-year warranty. In 2009, the 360 will be superseded by a different console, called the XBox 720 for argument’s sake.
It will have an integrated power brick, return to Nvidia for a GPU, a quad-core processor, a gig of memory (or more), and most likely DDR3 memory at that. Also, the hard drive will be standard, and no less than 60 gigs. The last bit is that it will have a Blu-Ray drive. Yes, Blu-Ray.
Oh, and Halo 4, Mass Effect 3, and Gears of War 3 will be launch titles. And you can trade in your old 360 to get the 720 for 300, not 600 dollars.
On top of that, M$ will realize something and just make Live completely free to spite Sony. They may even make a deal with Second Life to have it run on 720s.

lots of fanboys here lol I have got 360 for 15 months works no probs games are great etc. im all happy with it. GT5 comes and i will buy PS3 for sure but now i don’t won’t it. No FF and GT @ PS3 = not in my house. FF+GT @PS3= in my house simple as that

Listen, it isn’t that Sony has to rely on a format to win; it is that these are not just consoles anymore. This was supposed to be the era in which the console was more than just a gaming machine; it is an entertainment center. In that regard, the PS3 is leaps and bounds past the 360 (and I don’t own a PS3, I’m a devout 360 fan).

It isn’t that Playstation is forced to rely on a format to win; it is that this generation of consoles was supposed to be more than gaming machines. It was supposed to be, and is about being an entertainment center. In that respect, Playstation 3 schools the 360 (and I’m a devout 360 fan, I don’t even own a Playstation).
January 6th, 2008
The 360 is spent!
It’s brand is weaker than an alchopop. The product is faulty and lacks the exclusive games the PS3 will launch in 2008.
And Halo 3 was a huge disappointment! At least it’s got some exclusive GTA content! That’ll be phenomenal. I hope.
But let’s face it, nothing will save the console. Fanboys may follow the 360 till it’s death, but why flood forums about why it’s still so amazing whilst ignoring it’s obvious disappointments. Namely:
1. Faulty Hardware and Servers
2. No Blu-ray support
3. Paying to game online
4. No 3rd Party Hard-Drives
5. No killer exclusives in 2008
6. Rubbish pads and no new ones on the horizon
7. Very limited media support
8. Piss-poor Customer Service
I’d love it if MS done anything to bring it back, but it’s doubtful they’ll do it before I trade their dodgy games machine in.
January 6th, 2008
Fahad Alam….wtf if your going to comment then dont be makeing stuff up of the top of your head….yes they will most likely be a 720 BUT that wasnt what the bord was about
as for the 360 its almost over look at it this way….your playing a game and hafe way thou you have to get up and change discs LAME, well its change discs or have smaller games then the ps3 because as games get bigger and bigger they will have to be spread onto more dvd9 discs unless Sony let MS use blu-ray witch lets face it i cant see happening because right now thats one of the biggist things the ps3 has over the xbox
the 360 will find that over time theres only so much you can compress onto a dvd9 disc before you have to start useing more then 1 for a game (im a lazy gamer i dont want to get up and change discs alnight so that rules out the 360 for me and i dont want to wave my arms around like im haveing a fit after ive just spent 8hours at work so that rules out the Wii, only thing left is the ps3
the ps3 as a peace of hardware is very cool
multicard reader
4 USB ports
blue tooth
blu-ray
rumble and motion sencer pad (shock 3)
BLACK IS THE NEW WHITE BABYYYYYYY use sony fans have had a year of xbox fans telling us that the ps3 is shit and will die but we just sit back and let the figers do the talking
can anyone say N64?
January 6th, 2008
L: has a point when saying its usless for the 360 Ultimate upgrade to include HD DVD player… 75% of the movie studios are on Blu ray, now that Warner and Lionsgate is on the BD side. Past the summer 2008 warner will release BD movies exclusively.
The guy that said “i play games with my xbox not movies”… well wake up to the fact that the more you squeeze in one box, the better the box… hence the upcoming 360 Ultimate, with integrated HD DVD and bunch of other things that sony has already squeezed in their box.
But the HD DVD upgrade, as already poined out, does not make sense anymore.
It als odoesnt make sense that Microsoft make a new console, the”720″ in 2009… way to soon game developers have to learn a new system to program for, also the $$$ it cost MS to design these systems, also the hundreds of millions of $$ already lost with the red ring of death…
MS rushed this one too quickly,…

u sound stupide bitch
January 6th, 2008
ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, blue-ray truly is better and will be microsofts downfall, only people that complain are the ones that own Xbox, because they know they bought the wrong console and don’t want to admit it.
January 6th, 2008
LoL you 360 fan boys are so immature and blinded from the truth. PS3 through 2007 has sold more than half of 360′s meaning its selling at a faster rate and thats without all the killer titles. You’ve used all yours Up Halo is gone and Project Gotham is gone get over it. PS3 might not take past you in 2008 but how long do you think it can last….the gap will get smaller and smaller…..you should have learned by now sony although may not seem it at times know exactly what they are doing Blu-ray was genius and was an inevitable success. And your wrong blu-ray will sell the system like dvd did for PS2. Games play the major part yes and by the end of 2008 with the help of our killer titles the gap will be so small between the two consoles sony’s sure to get in lead 2009
January 6th, 2008
Personally I still think the ps3 will win this console war outright, It will be slightly closer but I personally believe that Sony will still have a sizable lead at the end of this generation, with everything in place in place to extend it in the next console war.
I personally see 2008 is when Sony force the critics to shut up and they rely that they declared the winner way to early in this race.
WII I just do not see it keeping up their current sale figures, especially with the people I know already getting board of theirs and they only had it since Christmas, this means they less likely to by new games, which less third party games.
This all down to personal observation and thoughts and no facts but I am one of the sensible ones who will wait until 2009 probably before buying a console, by that time most of the games I want are cheap and the consoles gone through most of their major price reductions and we have the winner of the HD DVD war declared, probably by mid 2008 this will happen.
Whole and 2009 is also the year where we see Microsoft go begging to Sony for used of their blu ray drive, I sure Sony will not ask for to much of Bills money now.
Another thing I think will happen is that we are going to see is that Sony is starting bring most it products under the Playstation brand name, I believe that by the end of this console generation the Playstation brand will have transform into far more than just a gaming brand.
January 6th, 2008
the problem with ps3 is…it will have allways the worst multiplataform games…

enjoy your’s half the frame rate games…
and in bluray…
if the xbox 360 get neglected like xbox did, it will get poorer games, ps2 was the worst CONSOLE by far in last generation…it sells well…
wwhy it’s sony, sony sell well, even if their’s products are allmoust sub-par…
I call it brand loyalism…
It does not make any sence…
“GAJO, epá se és portuga deves ser” you might notice that religion, is in deficit in our western world, so what we have to replace it?
brand loyalism…l
very stupid to follow a brand better follow benfica in soccer…
and no, PS3 is not better, but, it will be the smart choise if everyone buys a sony, because developers will fly towards ps3, but that would be bad, because if the xbox 360 get the attention it desevers or even the same attention as ps3, xbox 360 will allways crush ps3, like xbox 1 did before the sony ps2 when that happened…
Sorry ab0uot my english
January 6th, 2008
tried to tell my friends that had 3fixme’s they made a poor choice, but nooo xbox was so great. well some red rings and xbox live failures later, theyre singing a different tune! and come on how come noone ever mentions BATTERY powered controllers for the 360??? are u kidding me that was a horrible buisness decision just another way to soak their consumers to buy the charger pack set! sony went with bluetooth(smart), usb(smart) mandatory harddrive(smart) wifi(smart) and bluray(genius). Folks, welcome to the begginning of the end for the crapbox. see all you live gamers on the PSN asooner or later! psn ftw

“For starters, anybody who has yet to jump into this generation of console gaming is inclined to lean towards the PlayStation 3″.
Yeah, your obvieously NOT a gamer.
January 6th, 2008
This article is a joke, right? PS3 is getting outsold monthly everywhere except Japan. How can it possibly catch up to 360?
Sure they have some games with potential coming out this year, but so does the 360. And on top of that, multiplatform games are better on the 360 99% of the time. Why would anyone spend more money for an inferior machine?
And lastly, the red rings has been addressed with the new chips. Why don’t Sony fanboys ever acknowledge that?

“So what happens when 120 million satisfied PS2 owners see a price drop for the PS3? they’re gunna buy one.”
Um, you do realize that the PS2 is only selling for roughly $99.00 right.. and much cheaper for a used one on eBay? True if the PS3 was to drop to $99.00 they would sell a lot, but honestly do you see that happening anytime soon, if ever?
The PS3 is still selling for $400-$500 and that IS AFTER a price drop. The Xbox 360 is selling for $300-$400 and I’m willing to bet they could still drop the price lower in the very near future.
I also don’t care about the movies or blu ray. I bought my system to play games and have been playing excellent games for 2 years now. Can you honestly say the same with the PS3? Did all you people use your PS2 as a DVD player?
Whatever HD format I choose to go with in the future, I will get a separate player.. not play it from my video game system.
January 6th, 2008
I sure am glad I bought my PS3 to watch blu-ray dvds. What a load of crap. Being able to watch BD on the PS3 is a nice extra, but the author of this article is a moron.
January 6th, 2008
Microsoft already said if they need to go Blu-Ray they will. So they can sell an add on Blu-Ray player and then it’s back to who has the best games and Online Service. Clearly XBOX 360.

hehe before sony lowered the price in $99, the ps2 in $199 is already sold 70 mill ps2 worldwide, i guess it will happen soon if sony ship enough ps3 world wide in 3 to 4 years but it won happen soon maybe if they figure out how to make the ps3 easier just like the ps2…

@Eddie:
If the RRoD issue has truly been addressed, then why did my Xbox 360, which I know for a fact had the 65nm processor, die not even a week ago?
@chad28:
You’re thinking of VelocityGirl.
@Fahad
That’s an interesting future. I hope it happens.
@Stubacca
You again? …man, I get the feeling from the way we disagree here that we’d either hate each other, or be best friends in person.
@Mitch
Toshiba’s downfall. If anyone truly suffers from the death of HD-DVD, it’s Toshiba. Microsoft just got caught between a rock and a hard place because Blu-Ray is Sony technology, and we all know better than to think Sony is going to license Blu-Ray technology to a direct competitor.
January 7th, 2008
i think sony will take the lead over xbox if not in 08 definatly in 09 and i think it will largely be in part because of ps3 home if it does what it says its going to be sweet and i dont know how many girls are on the ps3 now but there are alot on live i have about 80 friends on my list and about 20 of them are girls and i know when girls see what this home thing is all about they will be there and where the girls are thats where the guys will be so i think the 08 holiday season will be sonys.plus im mad at microsoft also because i got the 3 rings and i sent it back and in the meantime while i was waitng for it to get fixed i bought an elite and i was going to give my kids the other one when it came back and then about 1 month later the ups guy deliverd it my kids were excited because they wouldnt have to fight me to play anymore but when we opend the box it was unrepaired and a note saying the warenty was void because i put an inter cooler on it.so i went and got a ps3 and i love it and i havent played my xbox since so i hope 08 is sonys year
January 7th, 2008
Microsoft couldn’t care less who wins out of the two formats….they want both to fail anyway leading a red carpet for digital media downloads. PS3 will grab the largest amount of momentum due to the 18-20 exclusives coming out this year and the Blu-ray dominance since its release. But the year for it to take past 360 is 2009……..when Microsoft release there pitiful excuse of a PS3 momentum killer. The wii can’t be considered in the same category, yes its next gen but the audience its captured is far different from the other two….heck half its “games” cant even be called games. Bring on the Wii fan boys stating that a fat Italian plumber is giving a better gaming experience than the war in COD4 LOL Bring on Proper games like FFXIII & Versus, GT5, MGS4, Haze and killzone 2 as well as all the others i missed out.
PS3 FTW 2008-2009 I cant wait to see those halo fan boys faces to know that after its best efforts it still fails!!!!
January 8th, 2008
Seriously look at history. Im not talking Video game history, im talking plain old good book history. OK microsoft is the big guy calling shots cause hes cocky and has money and ps3 waits in their japanese bushes for xbox to gloat in their premature victory. All the owners go and buy new xbox after new xbox to a bigger hd xbox, to a arcade version xbox and hd dvd addons and bam out of the blue (or blue ray) its pearl harbor all over again.
January 8th, 2008
xbox wont carry blue ray addons if they have diginity in thier fan base. They will sell it just to rape 360 owners for some more cash. ANd take your 50 bucks a year every single year. You know thats 250 bucks for a service added on to your 300 price tag. 50 of which is up front when you hook it up. I dont really think 360 is any cheaper then ps3. wifi 100 bucks. dvd player 199.00 just to get to ps3 level will cost u 600 bucks lol. Wheres the savings. Oh i havent turned my ps3 off in 5 weeks now straight and it still runs great :/

I guess you wanted to say hd-dvd, and no we do not have to pay for something we might not want…

January 8th, 2008
Blu ray will die it’s death along with the ps3.
It was a good idea when the ps3 was first being thought up but since then the advances in broadband speeds and super cheap hard drives will bring the death to the disk format. That includes dvds and cds, espcially when you can carry 100s of albums and movies on a single handheld device.
Why would you be stupid enough to spend that much on a blu ray movie when it can be downloaded at a fraction of the price in HD also.
January 8th, 2008
Let me say this before I go on: i am pretty indifferent when it comes to game systems.
“wifi?
do you really think you must have wifi to get connected?
wire is better than without wires…more reliable and more speed…”
This is a moot point. Wired is usually better, but only if your tv is close to your modem. Putting a 100m cable across your house to hook up your game system is in the least annoying. Also a 100m standard UTP wire is as expensive as a wireless setup. Finally a standard g router runs at 54.0mbps and the wire has a maximum of 100mbps. In theory this is faster but for online gaming it does not make a difference becaue the standard north american and european internet connection runs at maybe 10mbps, which is nowhere near the speed of the router or wire.
“Blu ray will die it’s death along with the ps3.”
Stupid comment with no evidence. Bluray has won the format war. The only high definition competitor, if u can call it that, is downloads. However, downloads have major problems that few have mentioned. It takes a LONG time to download a 20gb HD movie + special features off the web. Secondly, unless the computer used to store the movies is used only to store the movies, then you realisticly need a terabyte of hard disk space.
As for the PS3 dieing, this is even less likely. It may not do as well as the 360, or it may, but its surly not going to die. If sony has to buy every third party game maker for the PS3 like it did the to the movie companies for blu-ray, it not going to die. And it wont come to that (sony buying everthing). PS3 sales have increased dramatically the last few months. It is a system that is rising in ranks and has a bright future. One thing to keep in mind: the PS3 is doing spectacular in Japan, and that alone will keep it aloft. By the way if you say “the PS3 was made in Japan, keep in mind that the 360 was made in the US, and is bound to do its best there.
“Blu-ray tranfers data at 36 mb/s HD-DVD tranfers data at 36.55 mb/s
Huge diference i must say”
Who gives a f***. This is a game site and no game console uses HD DVD for games. And .55mbps is not much of a difference when you compare it to some DVDs which go at 8mbps.
“called the XBox 720 for argument’s sake.
And you can trade in your old 360 to get the 720 for 300, not 600 dollars.”
Is this your wet dream? Its completely stupid? I dont even know where to start. You took basically the best of whats on the market today and described it. First off, even in three years, quad-cores are going to seem like pentium 2′s. Intel will by that time have breached the teraflop mark (ie.80 cores). Second, 1gb of RAM is not needed on a game system. Third, minimum 60gb hard-drive is not needed either as people who use there game consoles for games (and there are a few out there) will only need like 10gb entry model. Beter models will go up to 500gb or a terabyte for next generation of game consoles. Lastly, do you really think sony is going to give microsoft free acess to blu-ray. No, there going to charge them so much that if thety want blue-ray in their system, the cost of the blue-ray alone wll be $300, not $300 for the full system. The system you are describing will cost at least $800, especially considering last time i looked sony’s cost for the PS3 was $840 per unit, and microsoft likes profit, not loss. A quad core processor is like $200 at minimum. A really good GPU from Nvidia is $1000 but i think MS will settle for the $200 one. Blue-ray rights from sony: $300. That $700. Now add a case, fans, an OS, a controller, Bluetooth, WiFi, a decent hard drive…..WOW way over the limit for a game system. Looks like $300 total was a bit off wasnt it?
January 9th, 2008
Yep, no XBox 360s at Best Buy’s or anywhere else.
Just like those Zune’s too.
Nothing at all to do with poor Microsoft logistic management, but everything to do with the console. Yep, hahaha. Suckers, you feel for marketing 101 – create demand.
January 9th, 2008
I’m sorry but blu ray movie sales will be lucky if they survive another 3-4 years, just look at the music industry’s CD sales figure compared to downloads. The internet is the future of movies. At the minute you can connect wireless hard drives to your HDTV that either stream movies from your PC or simply play whatever is currently stored on it.
This method costs a fraction of buying a blu ray disk.
And to “Al” trying to say 1GB RAM isn’t needed for gaming systems. YES IT IS! MEMORY IS GOLDUST! ps3 took a short cut by only putting 256mb in their console and putting the memory on to the blu ray disks takes longer to process and are paying the price with shit frame rates in every mulit format game compared to their xbox counterparts.
January 9th, 2008
Mike,
First off, the PS3 has 512mb total memory. It has 256mb XDR RAM (which is faster than the 360′s memory) for its CPU, and 256mb RAM for the RSX GPU. Thats 512mb total, which is the same as the 360 that uses 512mb UMA (unified memory architecture) for both the cpu and gpu. This is actually more efficient than the UMA RAM, however, yes, Sony did screw up somewhere.
Second, you are thinking computers with multitasking, large programs, and massive OS (like Vista)-ps…i am a windows person so dont say im mac/linux/whatever fanboy. The OS of the 360 and PS3 are small and basic, and do not require much RAM to run perfectly. Game systems, for the most part, run a single main program, and that is game/dvd/bd playing, and this takes up little memory compared to most things on computers. 512mb is all they need. Any less would, yes cause problems, but any more will actually slow down the system. In computers, you add more memory to prevent the Switch file(to temperarally use the hard drive as RAM cause its full). However, on a game system, 512mb is not going to fill. In addition, if you are using much less RAM then you have, you are effectivly slowing down the system because the CPU has to search through that entire GB of memory before it finds what it wants, rather than 512mb. If you dont need the extra memory (which you always do with computer but not game system), never upgrade it.
“shit frame rates in every mulit format game compared to their xbox counterparts.”
TRUE! PS3 is expiriencing trouble with third party games but not because of RAM. Third party games are created for the 360 first, then the ps3. This is because the 360 came out first and that the ps3 is harder (and takes longer) to code for. Therefore the PS3 is playing converted 360 games and the 360 and PS3 have very different internals hardware and background software. This is why the framerates suck for third party games on the ps3, but not for Sony’s own games.

PS3 does have ONLY HAVE 256 RAM and sony have admitted this is a problem but would have made their console too expensive!!!! Not all games are converted by the way. Look at Pro Evo, it was a disaster!
I only count around 5 DECENT games that sony are making next year, the rest will all be third party and guess which console they will look better on and not to mention cost less.
January 9th, 2008
I don’t know where you are getting all this having to search through memory takes time????You clearly don’t understand how RAM works by the way, it will not slow your system down and only uses what is required for a particular task. Once it is finished it is wiped hence the name RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY.
The xbox actually does multitask just so you know because in games such as comand and conquer 3 (which ps3 does not have the RAM to support by the way!!!) you can link up with your video camera with up to 4 other players and also chat at the same time with your headset, text your msn friends and not to mention play any album from your hard drive or stream it from your PC DURING the game unlike ps3 where you CAN’T play and listen at the same time.
If sony had the choice to do it again they admitted they would have put more RAM in so why are you talking shit? I smell a fan boy
January 9th, 2008
You sony fanboys really piss me off…I to was a sony fan i owned a ps2. But i am now playing a 360 elite you know why cause i found the 360 to be more apealing than ps3, about this blu ray crap….no one cares. Right now my 360 is doing eveything i need it to do and giving a line of great games also, lost odyssey, fable 2,devil may cry 4,GTA5,halo wars,n many more.so when the ps3 drops its price and starts producing some good games i’ll actually pick one up but right NOW whats important and whats producing is the XBOX and xbox live period.
January 9th, 2008
Mike,
I admitt that im not the best explainer, but i do know how RAM works quite well. This is taken off the Sony website and can be confirmed through technical websites.
Memory
256MB XDR Main RAM
256MB GDDR3 VRAM
The PS3 has a total of 512mb RAM but only 256mb for the CPU which most people consider to be the only spot to put RAM and not consider the RAM attached to the GPU. Sony did make the stupid mistake of not putting more RAM connected to the CPU, however there is still 512mb of RAM. It is one of those situations where something should theoreticaly work better, but in reality does not. Sony should have tested its system a bit more.
I also did not know about command and conquer as i am not the biggest of gamers, however, all these features (including the audio/video rendering) can still be done on 512mb of memory easily (as the 360 i proof of), whereas PCs OS’s use hundreds of Background programs, while doing most of that, so they need a bit more RAM. My original argument was that 512mb was enough RAM for a game system(as the 360 has proved), not that the PS3 was efficient or defficient in RAM.
I will try again to explain why TOO MUCH RAM slows down the computer SLIGHTLY (not RAM in general). The CPU, or processor has to go through each and every block of memory in the RAM chip to find, then access the contents it needs. After its done, yes the RAM chip, or that block of memory is wiped clean. If i have 4gb of RAM but have a system that, due to its simple design, uses only lets say 512mb of RAM because thats all it will ever need. Now, if i have 4gb of RAM, the CPU has to go through 4GB worth of memory blocks (though this takes very little time). However, if i only have the amount of RAM ill ever need (plus maybe a bit), then the CPU only has to search for my data in that smaller storage capacity. Therfore, overdoing the amount of RAM can hinder the performance of your computer/gamesystem to a small extent. In most cases, this difference wil not be noticable, but in more strenuous situations, there is a somewhat noticable difference. I thought this was fairly common knowledge (i see im very wrong), though i was brought up working with computers extensivly.
Lastly, i am not a PS3 fanboy, although i do prefer the PS3 over the other systems. The PS3, no question, is the most technologicaly advanced of the game systems but it is not nessesarily the best game system. The 360 most likely wins in that catagory as it has the best online, best games and best non-HD performance, although Sony is starting to catch up now with its software updates. However i still like the PS3 better as im more of a high technology person (not that the 360 isnt hightech but the ps3 came out a year later and has a bit more advanced technology in it).

No I believe you…….you’re NOT a fanboy lol.
And you’re still wrong about the RAM by the way. PS3 has 256 RAM. You can dress it up to 512 but it’s not proper RAM.

im not a ”fanboy” of an console i just like playing games altho it is tru i only own at 360 at present. im bored shitless of arguing about the technology iv dun it so many bloody times lol but for you ppl saying ”once devs are more familiar with cell” stop fooling urself ur pretty wrong. theyre more familiar than you mite think, that doesnt make it any easier to use though lol. think about it if they know how much power it has then why havent they used it, maybe becus the system actually places limitations on itself (partially due to memory issues – not just ram but the spe’s) o and the biggest point i want to make is ppl from both sides (sony and microsoft) are both basing the future of an entire system on no more than the same 4 or 5 games. i dont care how good a single game is, 4 or 5 games out of a possible life span of probs 1000+ do not sell a console overall. and i say this about both systems lol. jesus sometimes playing a game these days feels more like a chore than a hobby. so who cares who supposedly ”wins” becus the companies arent just gonna go bankrupt and stop making games becus one sells more than the other. at the present time sony are good examples of that. o and b4 any1 sez im not a fanboy im just a gamer in general who gets pissed off with al the petty bitchin. i mean if u love ur consoles that much y the hel dont you just go play them instead of sittin on here makin pointless arguments. anyway im off to play some mass effect. ttfn x

@mike, for a pc no that ram setup isnt good because the GPU does all the graphics rendering while the CPU does processing of things like physics and lighting, unfortunatly for ur theory of it being the same on the ps3, the ps3′s CPU (Cell) actually works together with the GPU to render graphics which gives the GPU full access to the 512MB of ram if and when needed.
The main problem microsoft made when designing the 360 is they setup its GPU and CPU to work similarly to that of a pc causing the GPU to only have access to the ram that is directly handed to it.

The Funnyest Part of all is when microsoft releases there bluray add on for 360(which they said is a definate possibillity) would there be any reason LEFTto buy a Ps3!!! lmao

james – your research sucks. first bluray is the ONLY “hd format” on the market and the ps3 is STILL getting spanked by the wii and 360. secondlyl, ms has not been sued, but rather a MOTION has been made. the reality is; it won’t go anywhere as the plaintiff has to show intent. Not gonna happen, especially since ms gave a free game to those affected.
don’t compare Home to xbox live. Home isn’t anything more than a promise at this point. a promise from a company with a looooong history of broken ones.
funny article. i actually laughed. i’ll take any laugh i can get on a monday. thanks!

“For starters, anybody who has yet to jump into this generation of console gaming is inclined to lean towards the PlayStation 3.” – love it.
the fact the ps3 is in faaar third place says different.

If there is a console war going on then someone might want to tell $ony b/c they haven’t shown up yet. At its current price the P$3 is clearly targeted at hard core audience but they have no decent hard core games and most importantly they don’t have the on-line service that makes hardcore gamers “hardcore”.
The Wii obviously owns the casual audience and Xbox Live is clear hardcore choice which leaves the P$3 as an also-ran. Too much for too little and too late I’m afraid.

Slow and steady wins the race.
Early bird gets RROD.
May 28th, 2008
it’s a good thing the 360 has been outselling the ps3 at a “slow and steady” pace then…
May 28th, 2008
wow…now the ps3 can barely handle Soul Caliber?
http://www.dbtechno.com/gaming/2008/05/28/soul-calibur-iv-running-better-on-xbox-360-than-ps3/
i feel bad for those who paid $600 for the ps3 when it has subpar gaming.
May 28th, 2008
but then again gta runs better on ps3, with less pop up
so then again i know which game i’d rather have.
May 28th, 2008
bourne – not me. i’d rather have true hidef. the ps3 version of gta isn’t in true hidef.
oh well..
heard about Grid by Codemasters? again…one more game the ps3 is struggling to run….
