The Queen chooses Wii over PS3 and Xbox 360
By Dave Parrack
It’s no surprise that we’ve all got a favourite console in the current battle for supremacy. Whether you’re a Sony or Microsoft fanboy, you’ll fight for your machine’s honour to the death. But it seems that number even includes the Queen of England, who it emerged this week is a fan and closet Wii gamer.
The story goes that her grandson, and heir to the throne, Prince William, or just Wills to his friends, received a Nintendo Wii from girlfriend Kate Middleton for Christmas. A royal insider then claims that the Queen saw him playing, and enthusiastically asked to have a go.
She’s now reportedly hooked, and William has had trouble getting her off the addictive machine long enough to have a go for himself. Her Majesty played a spot of ten pin bowling using the Wii remote, and considered herself a bit of a natural at it.
According to vnunet, a royal insider (whatever that means) told The People:
“When she saw William playing a game after lunch at Sandringham she thought the Nintendo looked tremendous fun and begged to join in.”
“His only difficulty now is prising it away from the Queen’s clutches. She showed all the signs of becoming a Nintendo addict.”
This isn’t the first sign that the Queen, or the whole royal family, are becoming more up to date, and embracing new technologies. The Queen is already thought to own a Blackberry, an iPod, and a mobile phone.
This Christmas also saw the royal family get its own YouTube channel, which featured the annual Christmas day message from the Queen just minutes after it aired on terrestrial British television.
All I want to know is how did Kate Middleton manage to get hold of a Wii for Wills? Everyone else searched high and low only to be told they’d sold out everywhere. I think we should be told if there was some favouritism going on somewhere down the line!

How sad to see the Royal Family reduced to buying a Wii. No wonder the UK is in such a mess.
