Battle of the console rockers: Guitar Hero III vs. Rock Band (Part 3)
By Triston McIntyre
Your inner rocker is screaming to be released all over your tv and sound system; you stand in your local game store and are forced to choose between the two great rock games Guitar Hero III or Rock Band. Here’s your guide for choosing which console rocker best fits your style.
Part one of this review encapsulated all things Guitar Hero III; part two was eyes on Rock Band. Go and get your fill of both before you read this one, otherwise you’ll think I’m a buffoon for minimizing two great games to something so concise.
What your choice of one or the other game inevitably comes down to is this: do you want a pure guitar game or do you want a fun game to play with a group?
Guitar Hero III takes the cake as far as a purist guitar game. As a guitarist myself, after playing both, I much prefer the style, design, and overall product that is Guitar Hero III to Rock Band to get my guitarist fix.
Rock Band is an excellent game in nearly every way; if you intend to play with a lot of people (more than 1 other than yourself) most of the time, Rock Band is your obvious choice. The game’s value is so much greater when 3 or 4 people are playing as opposed to just single player.
Guitar Hero for your guitar purists, and Rock Band for everyone who just wants to fool around, have a good time with friends, and get that group gaming experience.
Both games are excellent choices, and neither is superior to the other because they both are targeted towards different groups. With this review to aid you, rock out with your…well, whatever you choose out.
