Microsoft: Xbox LIVE Crashed Due to Server Strain

January 10, 2008

Xbox LVIE Blorge Microsoft has come out and finally given an official explanation as to why Xbox LIVE has had sporadic outages over the past few weeks. The question now is whether or not gamers will be willing to openly forgive and forget.

Speaking with Kotaku, Microsoft’s Group Marketing Manager Albert Penello explained that the Xbox LIVE outages which still wreak havoc over Xbox LIVE at the time of this writing were caused by a combination of an influx of new Xbox LIVE users, and a lack of Xbox LIVE team members in the office to react to the number of people.

We had the biggest concurrent day we’ve ever had on LIVE,” said Penello. “We had more people than ever signing up on LIVE, it was 9 million, then 10 million, and it literally was that a lot more people were trying to get on, sign up and play than we had expected over Christmas.”

He later added, “It’s easy when we’re all in the office in November, but on December 25th, it’s harder to get a hold of everybody.”

That’s it? Seriously? Xbox LIVE crashed and is still crashing because everyone was at home eating Christmas ham? I’m not too sure that’s going to go over with the foamy-mouthed Halo 3 fanatics who pitched a [expletive] storm because they’d be kicked out of random matches. Now I’m sure a lot of people are going to appreciate the free Xbox LIVE Arcade game that Microsoft promised, but considering the amount of money the Xbox 360 userbase is pouring into Xbox LIVE, there really is no excuse for it to have these kinds of problems for as long as it has. It’s only been a couple of weeks, but really, that’s long enough.

That shows how bad a company is. Xbox Live crashers all the time is always lagging and disconnecting or Xbox system dying omg Xbox 360 sucks.

  2. Matt:

Please ignore the above comment. He is a playstation fanatic, which of course means he is trying to breath life into a system that never had any. Move along, nothing to see here.

wow! there blaming the people who bought the system. glad i went back to sony. if i could just get bioshock and mass effect now i’d be square

See guys, this is what I don’t understand. This is for Xbox users to discuss an issue with our system involving the worlds BEST online service. If a PS3 user wanted to talk about a poor performing live system they would need look no further than there own forums. So what it’s crashing, thats a fix buying more capacity in Xbox’s servers will solve. Easy as that for Xbox. There is nothing like what Xbox Live offers anywhere, expect the innovations of our futures gaming to hit a few bumps as it paves the way for people like Sony and Nintendo to follow with step downs and less satisfying systems.
