Forget the Wii. Screw the Xbox 360. I’m buying a PS3!

Taking a break from the news for a hot minute, I found myself staring at my Xbox 360, and its blinking ring of death. It’s been nearly two weeks and I still haven’t gotten my coffin, which will indeed be my fourth coffin. Either way, I started weighing the pros and cons of owning each console, and you know what? To hell with the 360. I’m buying a PlayStation 3.
I’m sick and tired of Microsoft, as a whole. I bought an Xbox 360 on launch night, and it lasted me a year before it died. Now every now and then a console will just up and die. I accept that. It happens every once in a while.
It should never happen four times to the same console. I should never have to be worried that every time I turn my Xbox on may be the last. But that’s not the only complaint I have with Microsoft, not by a long shot.
Somebody broke Xbox LIVE, and it’s about time it got fixed. Now, I haven’t had the pleasure of experiencing my Xbox LIVE crash on me at random times as, again, my console is dead. But I’ve heard and seen (I do have friends, after all) these problems for the past month or so, and it really is time that Microsoft got this stuff figured out before that nasty lawsuit from those whiny little ingrates in Texas starts gaining merit. Having my game randomly crash can be annoying, but when it affects my ability to navigate my dashboard, it officially becomes a problem.
Another thing: Why can’t I play my XBLA games when I’m not signed in? I spent countless amounts of money buying Time Pilots, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pac-Man, Contra, etc. I think I’m entitled to play the games I bought off of you when I’m not signed into LIVE.
…well, I feel better. But I’m still not getting another Xbox 360. So that leaves my options down to PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii. Let’s start with the Wii, shall wii? (I apologize for the pun)
Quite frankly, the Wii is an overclocked GameCube with a Power Glove attached to it. The only decent games for it that aren’t bursting at the seems with Nintendo’s patented kid-friendly goodness are from Capcom, and as far as online service goes… Friend Codes? The worst idea ever. Worse than Virtual Boy.
Now that’s not to say every game is horrendous. Super Mario Galaxy, Twilight Princess, Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, Resident Evil 4, Metroid Prime 3 and Super Paper Mario are all excellent titles. Unfortunately, that’s about it.
Honestly, if I bought a Wii I’d probably spend more time playing games off of the Virtual Console than I would actually playing games for the Wii itself.
So that leaves the PlayStation 3. I will be the first to admit that the first year or so for the PS3 has been less than stellar. In fact, it’s been freaking awful in every conceivable way. But, with 2008 now here it appears Sony may finally be getting some games for the big black paperweight. Uncharted and Unreal Tournament III are amazing titles, and with games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5 due in 2008, in addition to the cross-platformers like Deus Ex 3 and GTA IV, I really don’t see where you can go wrong with a PlayStation 3.
…well, okay, so I don’t have a HDTV, so Blu-Ray would be useless. It’s also pretty pricey, at $499 for the SKU that’s worth my time. It also doesn’t have anything worth owning in the PlayStation Store. There’s no guarantee Home will be anything worth writing home about.
You know what? Screw it. Where’s my Sidewinder mouse and headset, I’m playing some Counter-Strike Source.

I’ve had the PS3 since launch in the U.K. and the game I’ve played the most (before COD4 came along)…..?…. CS:Source on the PC…… Uncharted’s been a small distraction along with Super Startdust HD (worth a look), but still Colin Mcrae: Dirt was very dissapointing (for a Mcrae game) and Lair was a complete wash-out….
Can’t wait for GTA4, GT5, MGS4….
GT5 Looks particuarly amazing and should shift a few consoles…

I have had my 360 for over a year and a half and I have never had a crash, and Xbox live was fine throughout the holiday period. My 6 other friends who own 360s never had any problems either. My friend who owns a PS3 had to return his, seems that the system likes Resistance so much that it wouldn’t spit the disc out!

I too was fed up! after 3 consoles i finally traded my 360 halo 3 edition in for a ps3. best descision i ever made by far! I knew that after i pulled it from the box. I had to put my ear on the console to make sure it was even on!!! and that was while the game was on. now is a good time to trade in, because gamestop is giving pretty good money for the 3shitty. but that wont last long, 2008 will be the year that microsoft fails at everything it has been trying to do. DOWNLOADS??? has microsoft even tried to download an hd movie online? were talking 24hrs on dsl! give me a blu ray disc any day, plus-when you pay for it, you dont have to pay for it in 2 days just to watch it again! and to BIGFELLA, so what somebody had to return a ps3 just because the disc would not come out! at least the machine did not friggin overheat in the middle of the room with ice cubes on top of it!!!!

I just have all three consoles. That way I can just great games no matter which system it’s on…thats what a true gamer should want to do.
Just for the record, my 360 gets more play. Until it get’s its community options up to par with XBOX Live, thats the way it shall remain. I couldn’t find anyone to play Eye of Judgment with on a SATURDAY NIGHT! It’s a lonely world out there on the Playstation Network right now.
And No, The downloadable content on PSN can’t hold a candle to what’s offered on the 360 right now. The PSOne games, Super Stardust HD and Warhawk (forget Calling all Cars as I couldnt find anyone to play that one on PSN either) being the exceptions.
It’s kind of a slap in Sony’s face when Rez, the game that was originally released on the PS2 is going to be on XBOX Live in a new HD version at the end of the month.
I do like the PS3 though and use it more for it’s multimedia capabilities than for it’s games right now. Looking forward to Home and Little Big Planet. But it feels like when I was an early adopter of the ps2…I was still playing my XBOX and Game Cube more…and well, I’m playing my XBOX and Wii more right now.

Even with the upcoming titles, PS3 can’t match xbox’s game library. Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect are all good reasons to get a 360. And the orange box, GTAIV and others are being released across multiple consoles. Online play is still way better on 360 simply due to the fact that NO ONE is playing online in the US on a PS3 bc no one has one and the 360’s Live troubles have improved drastically in the past two weeks.

You know one thing early adopters always get… Screwed.
Just dont buy crap that is brand new in a experimental market, IE Next gen systems, Windows Vista.
I can’t remmber the number of times those next Gen systems have changed with in the first year alone that the early adopters are stupid.
You should always wait about a year before you buy a next gen system. The costs are too much for the limited selection of games they always have so many problems.

360 — Ring of Death
Ps3 — Screwed over price
Wii — Two games that sucked ass and not very many games that utilize the motion control of the game.
PS2 — There DvD Drives were crap and usually scratch the crap out of your dvd’s and games.
Xbox — I really dont remmber what was bad for the start other than no good games for like the first year and all the good games were initially released on the Ps2
GameCast — everyone priated the games when they came out and screwed Sega out of the consol market.
Sega CD — Sony broke partner ship with Sega and this was the basis for the ps2 if memory severs correct.
Sega Saturn — everyone that bought this was stupid cause it cost too damm much for the crap it did have.
Neo Geo — no need to say anythign about this.
Genesis — for the first couple of months the only game that was good for this was altered beasts and that game sucked ass and was stupid.
Super Nintendo — Game catriges always had to be licked
Nintendo — See above and remmbner the paper trick?
The Track record was the same for all the systems that come out, wait about a year then buy so all the techno nuts can pay for the first beta and you can get a real system.
i think now is the rigth time to be a PS3
just like last year was the right time to buy a 360
Next year will be the right time to buy a WII

Please use XBL and tell me that it takes 24hrs to download a movie. I have and it only took 5 minutes to start watching the movie with dsl(Streaming is a word, for real look it up.) Stop your bullshit fanboyism and if you dont like the 360 thats your f personal opinion. I own the 3 next gen consoles and i cant say who`s better. I played Gears,halo3,mass effect,Bioshock and COD4 on my 360 for the most part in 2007. Uncharted gave a weekend rush and SMG is being played by my wife!!!

why say the wii has no games then reel off a list of AAA games. its hardly like the ps3 has more or more on the horizon than the wii. even the 360 id strugle to name 10 AAA games.
end of the day the 360 has made everyone put money into beautiful looking fps, but come on we need variety. maybe thats why wii gets away with so much 3rd party crap because theres just no competition except with fps’s.
maybe thats why we have to go back to the pc. everyone sais the 360 is just a nicely shaped pc. but its not, where are the decent rpg’s/mmorpg’s.

I just sold my brother my 360. Bought it on launch day and I’ve had enough. Like you I was on my 4th 360. However their mediocre lineup of games left me wondering what was going on. I also game on PC so the only title in 07 that interested me was Crackdown. Around November I started thinking of picking up a PS3 and I havent looked back. I’ve been loving it. It works wonderfully in tandum with my PC. I wont miss any AAA quality games in 08 now thanks to my PC and PS3.

I cannot be the only guy who got a PS3 for the Blue-Ray player. I have a 50in samsung TV and I am happy with my purchase of a PS3 just on its movie merit. It is the ultimate in cost benefit, you get a whole lot of bang for the price, but if you are not a high def enthusiest and I could never imagine why not, do not buy one.

Is anyone else out there tired of high def being touted as the next thing everyone needs? Maybe it’s me, but when I walk into any audio/video store, and compare an HD TV to a standard set, I can’t see what the hype is about. I could care if PS3 has Blu-Ray… whoopety doo! Well, the 360 did had, and still has in some places, the 3 rings of death. The Wii is for little kids and the PS3 doesn’t have many exclusive games like the 360, but, is fun as hell. I own a PS3 and I love it. I bought Blu-ray movies, some PSN games, played online for free, surf on the web, download clips from other websites, played PS2 games, used remote pay (locally and through the internet), watch DVDs upscaled, played with the PS Eye, played with the voice changer with my pals, etc. I love every minute of my PS3. I never liked the 360 OR the original xbox. Also, I’m planning to buy the Wii only for Smash Brothers Brawl and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. So, this Next Gen WAR is only about who like what. All three consoles are good, but, they suck too. So, stick with your gaming taste and buy whatever. Gotta go Blu, gotta play beyond. PEACE!!!!!!!!!!!!

as for not being able to tell the difference, i guess thats like saying you cant tell the difference in Crysis vs halo 1.
HD is basically allowing you to use a resolution just like you would in a computer.
The 1st gen HDTVs are running from 300$~999$ at most stores, and work flawlessly.
But if you cant see the difference is HD vs SD, I guess you can stick with Wii.

Firstly, no I’m not a fanboy…
My XBox 360 has “only” melted twice and the racing wheel once. The PS3 I subsequently bought feels like a far higher-end product (i.e. I can’t hear it when watching movies) in comparison but….
every time I go to buy a game, I still end up getting the 360 version because of the game controller and smoother play. For all Microsoft’s crap they are still (regrettably) getting my money when it comes to software.
Now if it would just stop melting…

Well i own both a 360 and a playstation 3 . i have had the 360 since launch and i have had no problems with it at all . best console on the market . now the ps3 have broken 3 times on me first the bleu ray crapped out . then the console over heated and then it caught fire .. i think i will stay with microsoft at least they stand behind there product . sony told me it was my fault . they can screw them SONY SUCKS … XBOX RULES .. oh yeah if know one has noticed sony is not making any money off the ps3 there loosing money in every sector . at least teh wii and the 360 are making money ..

i love my system thus far, but if i had a 360 i would have mass effect and that other one bioshock. but i have a ps3 and just with all the movies i download for free, i find that if i’m home,my ps3 is on. psn has just a little but i never have any problem finding anyone to game against, be it warhawk,r:fom,skate,unreal3, or just a 6-way video chat blaze room where me and my friends smoke and talk games. we were talking about mario earlier and their’s no real fanboyism amongst friends (good ones anyway). wish i had all three, but i’m not made of money.

Pretty much we all know the 360 prematurely launched its load with the famed 2007 lineup. There were good games halo3, gears, bioshock, and mass effect exclusive to the system but they dont have nething left. Its like there first time getting ne and they got all excited the first two minutes. That famed line-up failed to really boost the system newhere and really i dont see how theyre gonna have a better lineup this year. The 360 outsold the ps3 by only 700k when the ps3 was at the lowest of its lows and the 360 was at its pinnacle. Now the 360 is getting alot of good games but they are all multiplatform with its best bud the ps3 so that doesnt give em ne leg up there. The ps3 is starting to hit its groove wrapping up the format war with a big W and getting a lineup of exclusives that rival if not beat the 360s lineup. I dont wanna sound like a fanboy but i only see the 360 loosing ground from here on out. BTW Toshiba flatout made the hddvd addon for the 360 uselesss and overpriced (if the looming bluray victory hasnt already done that) by selling standalone players for 129.99 in a last ditch fire sale too

seriously, everyting that is good coming out on the 360 is going to ps3 and vice versa with exception of a few games. GT never realy liked it so i wont be buying that. MGS4 is a buy when it hits bargain buckets.

I own all 3 next gen systems and can agree with most other comments. the ps3 has brilliant multimedia capabilities, i have a 42″ hd tv and blu ray looks amazing on it, only problem is the movies just cost too damn much so i rent them and theres not too much avaialbel compared to dvd.

Any one who feels that people are being ripped off in paying for live, i kid you not the psn is complete rtubbish in comparison, downloading and installing games is a pain. the 360 just feels quicker to download and you dont have to wait 10 mins for the game to install.

in the last two days your site has originated stories about how COD4 has overtaken Halo3 and in that story you added you might as well play COD4 on the playstation3. You said repairs will break your downloads…thats only partly true…once you recover your gamertag all your downloads are available to redownload for free…it may be a pain but its not broken. And this story about how finally your tired of the 360. Fine go buy a PS3 and play the 2 good games available for the system. Have fun with that. I’ll stick with Mass effect, Bioshock, Halo3, and a fully integrated Live experience.

well i never attack and say the 360 is shit, it has good games but faulty hardware. i don’t like the idea of any thing i pay for brand new crapping out on me. the failure rate is a real thing (33%) the ps3 had a rough start,they didn’t help nail any coffins (dc) but a format. i believe the community is perfect, there isn’t too many people to clog the airwaves. most of paid with our own money the cost difference so people are usually more mature. i play with chicks who don’t get cussed out for being on warhawk or motorstorm and me my friends can tell you some of really good. the live experience is a deafening profanity filled p2p server cluster fnck. and you have to admit a console that breaks 4x’s and you buy another one, are you just in denial that ms and sony and nintendo really believe in you? because none of them do, we’re just personal piggy banks to them. their companies will survive despite our arguing amongst ourselves. and trust me their laughing all the way to the banks. i would

Here is my look on the ongoing console war and, for the record, i own a playstation 3(bought it at the european release; March 23d, 2007):
2007 was xbox 360’s year without a doubt. 3 excellent exclusives were released (halo 3, bioshock, mass effect) and the ps3 and nintendo had nothing to put up to that(possibly smg).
I think 2008 will be the year when the ps3 will rise up and will be seen by (almost) everyone as the better console. With Home (XBL killer?), MGS4, Killzone 2, GT5, LBP and numerous others being released under the year i have a lot to look forward to. With the realease of Home an achievement system will also be released, which btw is great! I envy the xbox achievement system and I can’t wait for it to come to ps3. There is still no game being developed to use all of the playstations true power, which is a real bummer.
I will not say much about the wii, since i’ve never touched one, but believe me, i’ve tried. And I will definetly try when SSBB comes out!
The 360 (only Fable 2 looks promising) does not seem to be having anything to put up to the ps3’s line up this year, and neither does wii (but three games i could enjoy playing here are: SSBB, Mario Kart and de Blob.

As for Live…anyone who says its filled with nothing but screaming teens has never played on Live…yes you run into that occasionally, but no where near frequently. The reason you don’t on the PS3 is because 1.so few people play the thing 2.the ones that do don’t have headphones.
As for games: only Fable 2 looks promising…how bout Alan Wake, the exclusive content to GTA4, and of course Gears 2. Come on!!!

i don’t see one official screen shot for gears of war2 yet, everybody always mentions gears 2. it my belief that ms and epic have to come to turns with their differences. as epic really doesn’t need money, licensing of their engine is paying the bills right now. and ut3 for the ps3 is badass, good luck on user created content xbox fans because you’re probably not getting them.

Alan Wake: not xbox exlusive, pc version coming (ergo, i can play it on my ps3)
GTA4: Sure it looks promising, but is it really on a completely other level compared to the ps3 version?
GOW2: I’m not sure it’s going to be released in 08

Listen up 360 fanboys, u guys haven’t read the news lately. Every game that’s on 360 and on pc version we PS3 fanboys can play them on ps3. See 360 can do that. So what’s that mean? That mean ps3 fanboys will enjoy MASS EFFECT BIOSHOCK HALO 3 GOW and all the games that’s on pc version we will enjoy them. 360 launched in 2005 and was good for a year or two. Now 360 is old, out-dated and unreliable. Microsoft needs a new console. Maybe something that is good for more than 2 years this time.
PS3 is by far, the best console on the market. It is a game console that will be played for the next 8 - 10 years.

well i never have any problem finding any thing to play. and if you don’t own one how do you know “theirs no ond to play against. it seems you are struggling to come up with an excuse not to own one. trust me, u can play anything on it just fine. and it’s only gonna get better. if you get a ps3, you will not be dissappointed
