And the “most rounded console” award goes to PS3…not 360, Wii

By Triston McIntyre

And the “most rounded console” award goes to PS3…not 360, WiiThe gaming industry has come a long way from the days of inexpensive Nintendo consoles and cheap Sega titles; consoles are an expensive purchase, and games are no drop in the bucket. In an era where consoles are an investment, not just a whim purchase, consumers want consoles that justify the price; PS3 wins that category hands-down.

To justify an expensive purchase, most people are looking for more than something that is just a money pit of multiple $60 investments in game titles, in addition to the console costs. Consoles play movies, offer downloadable content, function as media centers, and do even more. In a failing economy, $400 isn’t a small amount, and everyone can’t own every console; choices must be made, and if you’re looking for more than a gaming rig, check out the PS3.

Before the fanboys tear into me, know that I only own a 360, but that I really do feel that the PS3 is your best investment as an entertainment center of today. What you get with the PS3 is an upscaling DVD player, Blu-ray player (which everyone knows is the only dominant HD disc format on the market today), free online play and content, media center performance, and more.

Let’s be honest, the Wii is a toy and nothing more; the 360 was initially considered to be competitive; though it is the console of a few great exclusive titles like Mass Effect, Halo 3 and Bioshock, the HD-DVD add-on is expensive, and the format is essentially dead. Online play is expensive and shoddy at best, and the console itself is prone to jumping the twig at any moment. Worth your $400 when there are other options? Not particularly.

Consumers want HD videos, they want cutting edge games, and they want it affordably. If it isn’t affordable, they really need it to be rounded. PS3 gives you what you need in a great package, and at an affordable price for what you get. Leave the Wii and 360 on the shelves; take your sleek black PS3 home and get to enjoying the cutting edge the way it should be.

You know it’s highly annoying when fanboys rant about how the 360 is better than the PS3. But in reality the PS3 sodomizes Xbox 360 :)……And all I have to say them is that, I’m an American…..and I can suck my cock!

    2. Jason:

High Definition TV and Gaming is the future - I guess it is only a shame Microshaft did not think ahead first.

    3. Tim:

It was only a matter of time for Blue ray to win the format war and this year at CES it was determined. HD DVD will remain on the market for as long as the supporting comapnies are negotiating their contracts with BLUE RAY. It’s only a matter of time before HD DVD will be taken off the market. As for the game consoles go, I love both consoles and own both. X-Box has good titles at the moment but is not the best for the buck when it comes to overall practicality. I will keep both systems to own the ultimate gaming experience since there will always be competition between the two consoles and exclusive titles won’t be universal. However I can only make PS3 the centerpiece of my home entertainment and future gaming experience. It has a lot more to offer in the near future since it’s capabilities are far beyond what 360 can offer at a price anywhere close to a PS3.

    4. Keith:

And the winner of the cheapest, biggest, loudest blu ray player goes to… PS3! Oh, and you can play games on it too. Marvel at the lush graphics of LAIR as you crash into the bridge over and over and over, until you throw your sixaxis controller out the window in frustration! Hone your creative writing skills as you ponder ways to put a positive spin on your console purchase.

Common side effects may include increase in electric bill, singed living room curtains, and complete loss of sense of humor.

    5. O gajo:

Finnaly the criticism towards Sony and PS3 is ending, people were getting paranoic.

PS3 is a fantastic machine, the best console your money can buy, there’s no doubt about that.
X360 is not a bad console at all, but it lacks in many aspects, I can’t see a bright future for a consola that is using DVD, no HDD in all SKUs and such a high failure rate. But time will tell, probably all the consoles will make good for their company, wii may be a toy, but is a cash maker to Nintendo, and in the end, that what really matter for the companies, money money money.

    6. ron howard:

“Online play is expensive and shoddy at best,…”

What? You own a 360 and use the Playstation network for online gaming?

“… and the console itself is prone to jumping the twig at any moment.”

That certainly was a problem, but the Falcon chipset has changed all that for the better.

Is it really necessary to make fanboy statements to back up your feelings about PS3? I own both, but the PS3 is my primary HD player, and 360 is by far my primary game console.

I have no argument with your assertion that the $400 PS3 gives me more features and technology than the $350 Xbox 360. Thank you Sony for subsidizing my purchase. Now, give me more games that truely live up to expectations. Drakes Fortune was the first of what I hope is many very good titles to come.

You have no argument backing up your ” expensive and shoddy online” statement. $4 a month, less than 15 cents a day, just isn’t expensive. Perhaps you DO have an argument to change my opinion, so lets hear it.

PSN is shoddy, slow, feature poor and….free. You get what you pay for.

    7. Ron Howard II:

@ron howard, I think you missed the point totally. The premise of the argument is not owning two system, because it is certainly not feasible for many, except for people like you. Having said that, the biggest bang for your dollars spend is the PS3, no need to prove or qualify that, just compare the functions.

    8. Mornelithe:

The shoddy performance they were referring to is all the downtime Live is experiencing that began with the holiday season…down fanboy, down. (That’s you Ron Howard).

And, face it, Live costs money…PSN doesn’t unless you actually PURCHASE something. So, yes, while you pay $350 up front, you still pay monthly for the online use.

And finally, whether the Falcon chipsets reduce the amount of RROD, the fact is, it’s a rampant issue to such a degree that Microsoft voluntarily took a 1+ billion dollar hit in replacements. If that satifies you as a gamer, fine, that’s great, get it replaced and you’re all set. But for me…I would personally despise having to replace my console repeatedly, or even once, due to shoddy manufacturing. MS needs to step up and REALLY stomp out these RROD issues in the public’s eyes…otherwise people are still going to be talking about it in the years to come.

    9. Graham:

Nobody has ever questioned that the PS3 has more functionality than the other systems, and yet everyone likes to say it as though it’s some revelation. The real question is, does that matter to a mass market? Overwhelming (as proven by sales figures) no. The PS3 appeals largely to technophiles and graphics whores. 360 has better games, and Wii has broader appeal. All of the PS3’s selling points don’t matter to the general public, and they won’t for another few years. Sony thought ahead, but sadly it was too far ahead.

    10. Mornelithe:

Graham…seriously, the 360 has been out for a year longer than the PS3…So naturally, it has more games out for it than the PS3. However, those of us who prefer Sony’s games, are in for a real treat in 2008, because most if not all the major franchises for Sony are releasing this year (Sorta like the Xbox’s 2nd year…it’s first year was pretty low key, which is in par with the fact that it had a lackluster set of launch titles also). Killzone 2, Crysis (some new articles regarding this on the PS3), Haze, GT5, FFXIII,
MGS4+Online…etc… The latter 3, have a monstrous fanbase.

That aside, the article is true. Both the PS3 and 360 do incorporate alot more functionality than just a gaming machine, however, the PS3 is by far more innovative and diverse in it’s ‘other than gaming’ offerings. And as time passes, I’m sure we’ll see the catalogue of games catching up to the demand of the consumer.

Keith you have no right to talk in this forum. If you had really played the PS3 at all you would have noticed that you can’t hear the fans on the PS3 as it is extremly quite. It’s the xbox that has the loudness issue. Everyone knows that Lair is a piece of crap, but that’s just a game. Xbox also has crappy games but I won’t stoop to your level. There are some great games for the PS3 that surpass any other game console. Go to your nearest game store and ask them to put in Drakes Uncharted Fortune and you will start to see what we are all talking about.

    12. Mark:

      ron howard:

My PSN is fast an reliable. I also have a 360, and online sucks badly, I rarely play online on the 360 anymore. COD4 is so much better on the PS3.

I recently found out the main reason why Xbox Live sucks. It’s because it’s a peer-peer network, with no central servers, meaning you are all connecting to a network, and a all limited by the slowest person connected.

I prefer the free dedicated server setup that Sony provide, it’s fast an reliable.

What annoys me, is that Sony are thre good guys, they delayed their launch to get the console complete and reliable. Microsoft are the bad guys, who went for the quick $$, with an early launch, and resulting reliability issues, and lack of features like Blu-ray/HD DVD and a standard harddisk, both of which criple the 360.

If you care about how you are treated as a consumer, you should reward those companies like Sony who do the right thing, and stay clear of those that time and time again screw over consumers, like Microsoft.

    13. Rebma Boss:

Which means once the rush is over for Wii, PS3 will totally win.

But when will the Wii stop selling like crazy…

    14. ron howard:

Listen to the Sony fanboys chirp.

Fact: I unboxed my 40gig PS3, and spent 2 hours downloading and installing a 98 meg system update. I inserted R&C, and got sent in for another update which took an hour. Before you kids say it’s my internet speed, it’s over 12 Mbps download and over 2 Mbps upload.

Triston’s statement that we should “know that I only own a 360″ is a transparent attempt to validate his lame statements about Xbox Live and past hardware reliability issues. Why did Xbox Live have issues for the 2 weeks following christmas? 3 million more users poured onto the system, which says it all.

Hey Mark, you really think waiting 20 minutes for a match on PSN beats 2 or 3 minutes between matches on Xbox Live? I won’t even bother arguing with you, since you seem to have different priorities.

espostal says “Xbox also has crappy games but I won’t stoop to your level”. He’s right, that statement brings fanboyism to a whole new level. In console sales, software sales, software review scores, online features, the facts are in. Xbox 360 STOMPS all over PS3 to the point where Sony feels compelled to seek PS2’s help when comparing sales figures and review scores. They were so stung by NPD’s numbers, they refused to talk about PS3’s performance, instead grouping PS2 and PS3 numbers together under the “Playstation” umbrella.

Mark says “I prefer the free dedicated server setup that Sony provide, it’s fast an reliable”. It’s also the reason there are so few online games for PS3. Sony’s “If the developer wants to set up servers, they can” attitude is the same as it always was, going back to PS2. Developers are also free to charge subscription fees. It’s also the reason there is no cross title chat and video chat.

Again, you get what you pay for. If you don’t pay, you don’t get. Me? I’ll take the choice of hundreds of online titles for the low price of $4 a month. the 2 weeks of Live issues were a pain, but I’m getting a free game from MS for my trouble. The last game they gave me was Carcassone, and I’ve spent 30 or 40 hours enjoying that one.

    15. Rich:

      @ron howard

I don’t think you should be accusing anyone of being a fanboy.

So before you could play R&C you had to wait 3 hours, hmm - I smell bullshit.

    16. Yo Mama:

Gotta love the ad for a 360 on an article praising the PS3

    17. jam:

everyone has a right to their opinion…. it just happens I agree with you Triston. 360 is good but I prefer the ps3 and feel i will get my money’s worth quicker…. love those multimedia features.

    18. Takeru Yamamoto:

Oh shut up, all of you. How this story became a newsworthy article on N4G escapes me. Blindly.

    19. ron howard:

Rich: “hmm - I smell bullshit.”

Pull your head outta your arse and that smell will go away. It’s a fact that the PS store and updates are SLOW, a problem even Sony says needs to be addressed.

As far as being a fanboy, I think you need to RE-READ my original reply and get over your overly protective attitude toward your console.

    20. venomcarnage89:

      @ ron howard-
      Listen to the x-bots chirp.

The reason he said he owns a 360 only is because anyone who does anything other then praising the 360 on the internet gets chewed up by angry x-bots for being a “sony fanboy”, because believe it or no you dont have to be a sony fanboy to like the PS3 and realize its lb for lb better then the others, you just have to be open minded.

Also 360 sales arent that as good compared the the PS3 as MS would like you to think, 360’s first year saw it sell like 7 million at best, and PS3 sold almost 8 mill its first year, and to make it worse for the 360, it had no competition when it was out, nothing to hold back the sales, the PS3 had all the bad hype in the world and 2 consoles against it and it still out sold the 360. Only place 360 outsells PS3 at all is in america but america is mostly full of idiots in the first place, which proves why a 30% faliure rate console is so popular at all, have fun with your 720 when it comes out in 09 boasting the same hardware problems as the 360 due to another early release, since they do know thats the only way they will ever even get ahead for a little while.

    21. RuddigerPez:

One thing that was not mentioned, and that is built-in wi-fi in the PS3…if you want a system that will be your entertainment hub…meaning it is in your living room…you’ll want wi-fi. (Unless you keep your computer and DSL/Cable internet modem in your living room or wire your house for ethernet.)

And Ron Howard….the jerk store called…

    22. ano:

I must agree that the PS3 is more rounded console, considering I’m not using it for gaming! It is kind of ironic that it is the most rounded console, when a console is at first and foremost intended for GAMING. The PS3 lacks good games at the moment compared to the 360.

The title should read “console with the most non-gaming features being used”.

I’m not bashing the PS3, but feel that the article is misleading. I own both a PS3 and 360 and use the 360 more for gaming while waiting for more excellent and varied games come to the PS3.

    23. Commodore:

Well we all knew it…and its going to happen. PS3 will win…I love how this guy called the Wii a toy, thats what I called it a few days ago….. Lets check out the 2008 PS3 line-up shall we? : Killzone 2, SOCOM, MGS4, FF13, R: FOM 2, GT5, LBP, HOME, White Knight Story, The Getaway, and The NC Soft projects….Just to name a few. It looks like 2008 will be the year of the PS3….And u fanboys can deny it all u want and say its not possible, but were closing the gap steadily…..and it is possible. I HOPE U ALL FEEL ENLIGHTENED

    24. Qraze:

okay, first it’s not the chip that’s breaking the 360, it’s the heat melting the solder points.and that’s due to the way ms outsourced when making the 360,so they have no personal quality assurance as sony does. and you get what you pay for exactly, and i have alot of great games on my system so you can’t bring that excuse up. and resistance still has alot of people playing it, how many does perfect dark zero? their both launch titles, guess which one is leagues better.quality over quantity people. i blaze the funk, you blaze the poop. i know my system is far superior. and it’s online is better. you use p2p servers. we have a choice of dedicated, reliable servers that support 40+ with no lag or we can host with the option of being a dedicated server.i have never seen lag on warhawk at all.i download movies and music straight to the hdd for “FREE” (thanks joox!) and my system is never off and still whisper quiet and it’s a year old. it won’t break yet and i put it through some trials.boo-ya.#1_in_the_hood_G!!

    25. Qraze:

and i have 6-way video chat. when the in-game xmb comes out sometime this year we’ll have cross game chatter and cross game invites. i see ms doing nothing original, just copying what others have done successful. o’ 360 where was your grand ces announcement, bill gates playing gh with slash, that was it huh?and sony will take their time creating something and it will be glitch/breakdown free. still paying a premium for those live dashboard adds? that is very hipocritical in my eyes. i pay for hbo:no adds. i pay for sat radio:no adds.why are you paying exactly? the last time i checked live is still having problems. and we’re getting crysis! it’s a more stable machine with more diverse games. i have yet to see a racer better looking than motorstorm. and that’s a truthsicle for ya

    26. ron howard:

Venom, your stupid is showing. Of course the RRoD was a heat issue. The modified heatsync with heat pipe was the solution. I know, I have one.

The 65nm Falcon chips will use less electricity, thus give off less heat. The original 360’s power supply was over 200 watts, the Falcon’s is 175 watts.

If you need any other overly simplistic explainations, just ask.

@Ruddpez, if the jerk store did indeed call you, they called the right guy. lol

Now, all you kids stop crying and go play with your Wii’s.

    27. ron howard:

      From http://www.dailytech.com

The Xbox Live Arcade game “Undertow” (Source: Microsoft)Xbox Live game “Undertow” free of charge as compensation

While Microsoft’s Xbox Live online system is generally reliable, Xbox 360 gamers found throughout the holidays less than satisfactory service. Gamers widely reported problems using Xbox Live, which Microsoft said was caused by the influx of new subscribers.

“As a result of this massive increase in usage we know that some of you experienced intermittent Xbox LIVE issues over the holiday break,” said Marc Whitten, general manager for Xbox Live, earlier this month. “While the service was not completely off-line at any given time, we are disappointed in our performance.”

Microsoft promised all Xbox Live users, both new and old, compensation for the downtime in the form of a full Xbox Live Arcade game that will be available for download free of charge.

Today, Microsoft’s Gamerscore Blog revealed that the free game available to all Silver and Gold Xbox Live members will be Undertow. Developed by Chair Entertainment, Undertow is an aquatic shooter with story driven-single player campaign, on and offline co-op, and multiplayer for 2-16 players.

Undertow will be downloadable free of charge for all Xbox Live users 2:00 a.m., January 23 through 11:59 p.m., January 27 (Pacific Standard Time).

Those who have already purchased Undertow are recommended to contact their Xbox local support, though Microsoft did not detail whether users who already own the game will receive a refund or a different free title.

there you have it. Fairly compensated, even the non-paying Live users.

“Venom, your stupid is showing. Of course the RRoD was a heat issue. The modified heatsync with heat pipe was the solution. I know, I have one.”
Its nice how the xbot can call me stupid but cant say why, maybe its because i didnt say anything stupid, i just stated facts, they just happened to be in favor of the PS3.Look in the mirror next time you call someone stupid, becauseyour the one all offended because this article isnt saying that the 360 is god. Also you say the “modified heatsync was the solution” well thats pretty retarded for MS to release a console with such a basic problem in the first place, let alone it taking them almost 2 years to fix it, and if thats the case, which it is, i dont know what to say about their super loyal followers like you that will follow a company that will make such stupid mistakes and still let millions of their consoles die. All i can say is i hope you enjoy waiting weeks for your new xbox to come back in the mail after it RRoDs on you. Also you should learn to be a little less touchy because believe it or not people on the internet will talk good about the PS3 and you may want to just get used to it, it will start happening more and more the further down 08 we go.

    30. john smith:

Ron Howard, you sir are an ass. it does not take 2 hours to download and install a 98mb update. I should know as i did exactly the same thing. None of my updates have ever taken longer than 15mins and I’m on a 8mb wireless in the UK, (UK broadband = crap) yet i still achieve acceptable download speeds. 2 hours for an update can only be the fault of your dodgy connection.

    31. ron howard:

venom I apologize for calling you stupid for what Quraze said.

Now, let me call venom stupid for what he did say. “…america is mostly full of idiots in the first place…”.

      venom, your stupid is showing.

Qraze, your stupid is showing too. 90nm chips use more power and generate more heat than 65nm chips do. I’m sorry you missed that very obvious point. Your figures are also wrong. PS3 didn’t outsell 360 in it’s first year. 11/2005 to 11/2006, Xbox 360 sold over 9 million consoles. 11/2006 to 11/2007, Ps3 sold less than 7 million.

I did indeed have an Xbox 360 RRoD on me after a little more than a year (I didn’t buy until April, 2006). It went dead on August 23rd, 2007. I called MS, and I had a new one on September 9, 2007. Manufacture date, August, 2007. No postage, no hassle, no problem.

The only thing that pissed me of was seeing my new copy of Bioshock laying around. Have any of you played Bioshock? Great game. In fact, I recently started playing it through for the 3rd time. This time, I’m going to save those little sisters.

    32. admiral buttercrust:

360 fans, look at the box sitting (or lying) wherever it is in your house. what makes it different from it’s predecessor? not much really, an upscaler chip, the harddrive isn’t built in or there at all if you choose not to have one, the machine isn’t reliable. wow, you bought a console that was no better than it’s daddy, i will let you off here if you have a high definition TV as that is a perfectly valid reason for wanting one of these. now lets look at your games that apparently “poon everything sony could ever do “. you have some games that are good, but these games could have been made for the original xbox and they would have worked just as well. now lets skip over to the other side, what differs between a ps2 and a ps3? bluetooth, bluray, built in wifi, built in harddrive, cell processor, RSX “reality synthsizer”, free online network that works well and gives your ps3 the latest features, the ability to run linux (fully supported by sony) and the ability to switch the harddrives if you want (320GB of games anyone?). thats a heck of a lot more than the ps2 and even the release games for the ps3 could never have been done on a ps2. resistance fall of man for example (oh that reminds me, 60 person multiplayer for resistance 2) is 16GB in size, that could only fit on multiple DVDs and even then it would never have run on a ps2. we can clearly see which is the better console and why sony think this machine will last for a long time. another thing, who still has their original 360? anyone? i only know of 1 person out of about 15 of my friends who have bought 360s that still has his original console. most of the other 15 are past their third console. one person went through 8 consoles to find one that worked. the 360 appears to have “slight” reliability problems.

    33. GreyFox:

Personally, the thought of a company leaving 24 million loyal customers in the dust to start anew bothers me. Also, it didn’t surprise me that the Xbox 360 had the RRoD problems they had. Everything that Microsoft makes or puts their hands on in someway is half A$$’d done. For example, take windows vista, windows XP is the OS of choice for many PC gamers because of the hardware driver compatibility issues. In the US, when you look around the web these days, doesn’t it seem odd that there is this pro-Xbox theme going around. It almost makes you feel that Old Bill is fattening someone’s pocket for some PR.

    34. Qraze:

ron who are you talking to? i didn’t say anything about sales. and i don’t care about sales. i state the facts, and the ps3 gets way hotter but they don’t fncking break down in the middle of UT3. they can handle the stress of a sauna and a freezer (anyone remember that? ) and mines has been dropped once, stuck in cramped backpack whilst i was moving out of florida to north carolina. and works perfect. another thing, did i single you out by name and call you fncking? i didn’t ,so why did you? are you defending yourself or your purchase of your system. fnckin bollocks man, i’m on it right now (ps3) so don’t single me by name bro. someone else might of. but keep my fncking name out of mouth and you might not feel “stupid” when i attack you.

    35. Qraze:

couple of typo’s in that one. whoops. games are the creation of man wanting to be GOD

    36. ron howard:

Sorry dude, but when people post crap, I call them out. Don’t try to ‘educate’ me until you have a grip on some facts.

Sauna’s, freezers, future XMB features. Holy cr@p, I found me a sony fanboy nest. Happy days.

    37. Taylor:

I’m not a 360 owner but to me they seem to have the best game line up. with sony I don’t really hear much about games. all I hear is about Bluray. What Great games are out for sony’s PS3 and why don’t I hear about them?

    38. Qraze:

the future is great indeed. i know my system is coming out witg original features (besides in game xmb) your ms seems to copy everything from hdmi to partial divx to wait get this, motion sensitive controllers(rumor) and their gonna do a home type app after they see how successful it is. and what purpose was their support in hd dvd? they don’t make movies, their games aren’t on them. so why? so could hope both would fail, so then they could “perfect” their digital download? that’s good for a few things. but the normal redneck democratic grandpa and the rest of society want to hold,to show something in their hands. as it is u can’t download an aqua teen episode on live and put on a mem card that u can hold in your hand. i can download any movie i want and make a million copies on a million different cards. hell u can’t even play live download movie or games without being “sighed in” so your at their convenience as you never own it to bring it over a friends house (movie).u guys r pissed at the wrong people

    39. TankerKevo:

I own both systems. This article is spot on. If someone told me I could only keep one, they would be walking out with my 360…i’d give it up way before I give up my PS3. Besides, my XBox will probably get the ring for the third time sometime soon…

      @Ron Howard
My PS3 updates have never taken any longer than 30 min, including both download and install. My ISP gets me about 7Mbps Down and 768k Up. You may be having issues with your ISP charging you too much $…but you’re a M$ fanboy so I guess you are used to it.

    40. Bigfella:

Only an idiot would believe that Tristan only owns a 360. This twat has been bagging the 360 since I have been visiting this site.

PS3 may have a lot of power, however I will never consider buying one until I see games that actually look better on multi platform titles, and exclusives that don’t play like a dog, i.e. Lair. I am not interested in Ratchet and Clank, I don’t like kids games. And Uncharted looks like a rip off of Tomb Raider, but without the sexy chick.

I think i’ll just stick to my 360 with Halo, Mass Effect, Bioshock and better versions of the multiplatform games.

    41. ron howard:

wow, Qraze in such denial. he says MS MIGHT copy motion sensing, yet Sony took out rumble and tried to copy nintendos motion sensing. It was a huge failure, and they were forced to pay $90 for copyright infringement to get rumble back.

Sony copied achievements from MS and tried to use the lame ‘entitlement’ tag. lol

Sony is now trying to copy in-game menu access, but can’t seem to do it. Look for a stripped down XMB for in-game access. Why, you ask? PS3’s bulky OS takes 76 meg of memory away from games, and taking another 10 meg for XMB would leave just 426 meg of memory for game code.

Home is just a substitute for PS3’s lack of online games and features, so I’m not sure MS needs it.

Then he asks why MS supports HD-DVD, but fails to realize that they support HD-DVD on PC’s over Blu-Ray for several reasons. MANDATORY managed copy is the main one, so customers don’t have to buy multiple copies of the same movie to play it on Zune or other devices. It’s better than buying a UMD version of a movie you already have, right?

PC’s will use blank discs for backups. A single layer, 25gig Blu-Ray blank goes for $25, a dual layer 30 gig HD-DVD blank goes for $17. 50 dual layer Blu-Ray blanks cost $40 or more, and even though the triple layer 51 gig HD-DVD blanks haven’t hit the market yet, you can bet they will be cheaper.

If you use the gamertag that you downloaded content to, you don’t have to be signed in to Live to use it. It’s when you share it with other gamertags that signing into Live is required.

Nobody can legally make a million copies of a movie, so I don’t know what he is babbling about.

    42. Qraze:

not one company has given a multiplatform title more or better features/graphics except the new DMC4, ps3 is getting a better overall package. it is worth the money. it’s not that expensive considering how much a iphone goes for, it’s loaded with features, theirs something for everyone. new bluray profiles that can be updated. wi-fi, they took out rumble cuz it was eating up batteries, but that’s past they gotten around that.and six axis is motion sensitive not motion tracking,2 different technologies, as i don’t want to be in constant fncking alignment with my tv, i like to lay down and play on my couch. hd dvd is dead. ms backed the wrong pony. sony has always been one of the first to put out a new format and win. the machine is years ahead of today. 360 is now, ps3 is the future. and still no one can tell me how many/few people still play perfect dark zero.i guess no one.and talking about 50 gig triple layer hd dvd’s if i’m correct standard bluray is 55+ gigs. bluray got a blewjob, as even porn is bluray

    43. ron howard:

lol You are really, REALLY misinformed.

“not one company has given a multiplatform title more or better features/graphics except the new DMC4, ps3 is getting a better overall package.”

Most multi-platform titles play better on 360, and the rest play the same on both.

“they took out rumble cuz it was eating up batteries”

They still use the same batteries dude. Right after Sony agreed to pay the Immersion judgement, they announce the return of rumble, even though Sony will be paying royalties that MS gets a cut of. THAT’S gotta sting!

“six axis is motion sensitive not motion tracking”

The Wii-mote isn’t JUST motion tracking, it’s also motion sensitive, RIGHT???

      “hd dvd is dead.”

Not in MS’s world, which is PC’s. HD-DVD owns 80% of that market.

      “bluray is 55+ gigs.”

      Wrong! It’s 50gig

      “..as even porn is bluray”

It’s on HD-DVD too, so what’s your point?

This ones a classic: “sony has always been one of the first to put out a new format and win.”

      ROFL! Where have you been?

      Sony backed formats:

      1) Sony Betamax - DOA

      2) Sony Minidisk - DOA

      3) HiFD - DOA

      4) SACD - DOA

      5) UMD - DOA

      6) Hi-MD - DOA

Failure after failure. So Sony buys a few movie studio’s and comes out with Blu-Ray, and puts it in PS3. This plan hampers PS3 sales because of the high price, but guarantees Blu-Ray will succeed.

ROFL! Qraze, you’re REALLY dumb for saying that.

    44. Don:

I agree that the PS3 is the best value, what I disagree on i that the wii is a toy. It had the best version of Madden. It can stream from the computer, it has a better web browser and a better control interface. Graphics are great until you put suck ass games in front of them.

As far as Ron downing Sony.

The only available burner is a blu-ray.

Most of the IT industry has been using blu-ray for backups since 2003, the backup disc for blu-ray are bigger.

Sony Betamax is still in use in professional broadcast were as VHS never made it.

Sony minidisc only failed here it’s been in use in Japan and Europe for years.

Sony gaming systems have been a huge success.

Sony was a part of the DVD group.

      UMD is still in use.

Now lets look at the HD-DVD support that microsoft claims in computers which has only come from one website. The HD-DVD group. The computers with most of the market share are HP, Dell , and Apple. firmly in the Blu-Ray camp.

      HD-DVD
      Toshiba
      NEC
      Sanyo
      Microsoft

      Blu-Ray
      Sony
      Dell
      Hewlett-Packard
      LG Electronics
      Matsushita Electric Industrial (Panasonic)
      Apple
      Pioneer Electronics
      Samsung Electronics
      TDK
      Thomson Multimedia

I really don’t think microsoft cares since outside of the menu interface have codecs in both groups meaning thay get paid regardless of who wins. This goes to show that microsoft really wants to sell movies through xBox live hoping this war will continue until it’s service can really get going.

The reality is that the best game system is the wii. The PS3 is the best value and the 360 has the best online service when you can keep one working. These are all facts. HD-DVD is died. Any feature that the 360 can do the PS3 can copy because it can reassign cell processors. The live service ids not worth $50 a year because microsoft does not need the money, and it’s a simple relationship database, they just want you simps to get used to paying for stuff.

So you can sit here and down each other but the reality is this. The PC and Wii have a better control interface for FPS and most of the games that sell in the next gen wars. The games that the PS3 and 360 are great at are not being made like platformers, fighting games, racing games and casual games. The are stuck trying to continue to do RTS and FPS. This is why the first XBox failed and it was truely the superior console then. Plus microsoft abandons all of thier products to quick.

As far as failure after failure. Microsoft has made it’s first dollar after losing mone since 2001 in its gaming division.
      Vista is a disaster.
      Microsoft BOB
      Windows ME
      Visual basic
      Windows 3.0
      Playforsure
      WinCe
      Dreamcast
      Original XBox
      WMA
      It’s entire consumer hardware business
As a matter of fact the only success they have ever had was being a monopoly. Forcing Apple and other operating systems and suites off the shelf or buying them out to get them off the market.

    45. ron howard:

Windows ME, Visual basic, Windows 3.0 were all successes. What are you talking about?

Playforsure and Microsoft BOB, I never heard of.

WinCe is a big success in small devices.

WMA (and WMV) are still in use.

Dreamcast? Ummm…you’re really confused. Sega, remember?

Original XBox. Huge success. The first console in MS’s 20 year plan to challenge Sony in the console market. For a system that was put together in 1 year and had little developer support early on, it did amazingly well. Sold more than Gamecube and gained lots of 3rd party developer support for MS. It was always considered an investment in their 20 year plan, but I doubt they expected to lose so much. PS3 is losing money at a faster rate than Xbox or Xbox 360 ever did. It has wiped out substantial PS2 and PSP profits, and logged over $2 billion in red ink for the gaming division. Sony’s gaming division has gone from top money maker, to top money loser in just 2 years.

    46. sai:

Wow, its sad to see a xbox fan come charging into a site praising ps3… (ron)

You need to get a life, seriously. Go comment on a site praising xbox instead, you might feel better there.

Xbox has better games including Mass Effect, Bioshock, and Gears of War. Note, I didn’t mention Halo 3 at all because it was a disappointment to me. I enjoyed the storyline, but the online wasn’t great.

I personally want the PS3 due to the games coming out this year, including MGS4 and FFXIII (which might be delayed to 2009, who knows).

It all depends on preference, xbox is only good for fps.

    47. ron howard:

lol sai, you need to get someone to read for you.

    48. jason:

the ps3 is a great console i brought it on release day so ok i paid over the top for it but its been in use every day resistance,motorstorm,cod4, uncharted, upgraded my tv -hdmi blu ray dvd ,put my photos and music on it brought the dual shock3 controller its great and battery charge does last a long time
yep sony has made mistakes with the ps3 but this is the year of the ps3.

    49. dustinmyles:

To Ron Howard and his misguided fellows:
“He’s right, that statement brings fanboyism to a whole new level. In console sales, software sales, software review scores, online features, the facts are in. Xbox 360 STOMPS all over PS3 to the point where Sony feels compelled to seek PS2’s help when comparing sales figures …”

Its been my experience that with people like you: overuse of the word “fanboy”, is indicative of your TRUE subjective bias. You NEED to be OBJECTIVE, in ALMOST EVERYTHING/SITUATION, this a one of the best character traits one can try to ascertain, primarily because it prevents you from speaking with a hot head and saying or doing something stupid (think logically, not emotionally….fanboy?) Anyway my POINT is this: your quote I posted above is a COMPLETE and UTTER fallacy. If you weren’t sooo emotionally invested in this issue, you would have taken the time to do some research to find FACTS to base you statements on (which you CLEARLY did not!)….Look up the fiscal reports for January, AND February of this year; your right on ONLY ONE point, yes “the numbers are in”, HOWEVER, it is the PS3 that has done the stomping, for your beloved Crapbox360 is now the one in 3rd place, and has been since 2008 began…..and that my friend is what we call A FACT! Look it up, in fact, let me save your lazy ass the trouble, HERE: .
Not only is Sony is NOW in 2nd, but the Wii isn’t selling but maybe about 4 to 5,000 more units a month than the PS3…which puts it within reach for Sony! Sony will win this generation, its a future-proof console with SUPERIOR hardware in every respect to Microsoft (and Nintendo).
And I don’t know why it took you an hour to install a firmware update from your Ratchet and Clank FTOD disc……in fact I don’t believe you: your either lying, or soooo freakin stupid it took you an hour to figure out how to do it! That is a TOTAL load of shit, there is NOT ONE firmware update that takes that long to install from a disc. An hour?, get off it…so full of shit!

    50. nicoli:

      yo everyone…
dont be upset by all the 360 fanboys, they are just very defensive nowdayz u know.
All of their AAA titles, fail, probably on at least their 3rd 360, and their nextgen dvd format is dead, i have to admit, had i not got rid of my 5th 360 (yes i was dumb enough to go through 5) i would probably try to defend it also. but its cool, the 360 (or 360s) had a pretty good 2 years. i guess its time for the tards at MS to rush out another faulty console to compete with the our beloved PS3.

    51. Mr.Brooks:

Wow. 1st time visiting a site like this. VERY INTERESTING reading/OPINIONS (+ the sprinkalage of the occassional skued facts;). I myself own BOTH as well. To echo a few words already posted.. the 360 IS a better GAMING console -due to the SELECTION of titles -which IS a position reflected due to its RELEASE date above MOST everything else. And since that IS what these consoles are created for the indulgence of FIRST….that statement DOES indeed hold weight. HOWEVER…..my BLU-RAY movie experiences (upscaled DVD exp’s deserve a shout), streaming of my MUSIC,PICS,MOVIES in AND OUT to my MP3, FREE internet subscription (free is still FREE *ron*),DIRECT INTERNET ACCESS ALONE, the option to RE-format;when downloading different file types or ~upscaling~ when playing any of ALL COMPATIBLE PS2 games,MORE than make up for the WAIT of the SOON TO BE EQUALED/SURPASSED experience(s) in GAMING!
Bottom line…360 got a head start and with it came out AS FAST as they could, obviously ONE entity understood it did not sign up to a 40 yard dash…but a marathon.
*the SOUND is SO SUPRISINGLY BETTER (ALL sound-movies,downloaded content, THE SAME games,THE SAME game demos,THE SAME ripped music files)on my PS3 opposed to my 360!-Maybe its cuz my TV and receiver are both SONYS…idunno:)
