Man’s Xbox 360 obsession blamed for death of child
The game did it. That’s what we here a lot these days when video games are involved in any way with a crime. This case is slightly different however. Tyrone Spellman aka Anwar Salahuddin allegedly killed his 17-month old daughter over a Xbox 360 console.
Spellman is accused of killing his daughter after she knocked over his Xbox 360 during a six-hour gaming session. The assistant district attorney called this an "obsession" but it’s hardly that. Many teens and twenty-somethings, given enough free time will play upwards of eight hours a day.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports Spellman got angry when the Xbox 360 was knocked over by the child and was damaged. During an interrogation he did admit to hitting and throwing the child but said he did not intend to kill her.
Whether he did intend to kill or not is now in the hands of the jury. Spellman’s defense attorney claimed that he was covering for the child’s mother who has been known to neglect the child. Again, that’s something for the jury to decide.
This case could have gone along just fine without bringing up the Xbox 360. It could have been left at "angry man beats daughter to death." That doesn’t look as good for a defense but "man beats daughter to death over Xbox 360" doesn’t look very good either.
I can’t say if he did or did not do this but I’m leaning towards the guilty side, it’s up to the jury as to what will become of him.

What on earth does the console of his choice have to do with the mental state he was in? He’s a psychopath. My 2 year old son scratched (and scratched it good) my 42″ Plasma. I frowned but it ended there. I actually gave him a hug because that’s what I do to him if I’m happy or angry with what he’s doing. Amor Vincit Omnia
