PSP blamed for catching schoolboy on fire
A Michigan schoolboy was burned Wednesday morning when his PSP handheld that he was carrying in his pants pocket burst into flames.
The incident happened at the Warner Middle School in Farmington Hills, Michigan around nine o’clock in the morning Eastern Standard Time. According to Farmington Hill police, the PSP burned a hole in the child’s pants, and the child himself suffered minor burns to his leg.
Thankfully the boy’s teacher was able to get the handheld away from the lad before any further harm could be done. The school was then put on lockdown, presumably because local police now believe al-Qaeda to be the masterminds behind the sudden epidemic of PSP explosions, which currently stands at “one”.
This is the first time that there has been any kind of incident like this regarding the PSP, to my knowledge. There certainly has been no recall effort on Sony’s end for faulty batteries, which as you can see by the image posted above, certainly appears to be the root of the problem in this case. Perhaps it was a faulty design with a third party battery (I know some of Mad Catz products make me fear for my safety)? More likely however is that the battery was in some way damaged. Probably from being dropped on the sidewalk or floor. Then again, if he were outside and dropped the PSP in the snow, that could have also played into this rather peculiar malfunction.
But then again, maybe karma just bit him in the backside for telling a whopper of a lie.

Why was he carrying the psp in his pocket? I thought it was a bit large to do so.
