360 claims the hearts of Turok devs, PS3 just a burden

By Triston McIntyre

360 claims the hearts of Turok devs, PS3 just a burdenSure, every developer probably has a favorite bagel to go with their favorite console, but there has to be some value in a developer’s choice of console to lead a game on, right? Well, the developers of next-generation first person shooter game Turok think the PS3 is a pain in the ass to move a title to after starting with the 360. Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

In a recent interview with Canada.com, the vice prez of Propoganda Games, a.k.a. minds and money behind the old-school shooter Turok turned new, had some very interesting things to say about the first person shooter genre and development platforms…along with of course all things angry, hungry dinosaurs.

Aside from the standard PR talk that every good VP is responsible for spitting during interviews about how their new game will really revolutionize the industry, Mr. Josh Holmes began the interview by pointing out that Turok would have been revving to go in November, had developers not needed to spend extra time polishing the game to bring the PS3 version up to 360 standard.

See, unless the developers working for Propoganda Games are smoking more than tobacco, the PS3 has trouble following the 360’s lead when it comes to development, like Holmes said, “If you lead on the PS3, you don’t have any problems taking that and moving it to the 360. But if you lead on the 360, and duplicate it on the PS3 it can be a little bit more challenging…”

Obviously you’re wondering why they would choose to start with the 360 if it is easy to move from PS3 to 360 afterwards? Holmes said the reasoning behind the decision was based on the Unreal Engine.

We could debate all day which platform is more fun, or which is a better value…but one thing isn’t debatable (unless you take the Turok developers for hacks), and that is that the PS3 loses a couple points to developers for being a nuisance to design on following a 360 lead.

Turok is trash brah…I played it after COD 4 and I felt sick..I think the Nintendo 64 version had a smoother framerate and smoother textures….Weak-sauce brah…..

      ….
      …..Crytek ftw!!!!! Unreal is trash….

So, according to your article, It’ll be easier for my new gaming company to start developing on the ps3 in the first place, since it’s easy to port from there to the 360? Thanks!! We’ll go order our dev kits from Sony. Sounds like these Turok cats should have taken your advise and done it on the ps3 too. Would’ve been an easier port to the 360, like you said.!! Am I being redundant?

    3. ken:

      Burnout paradise is ps3 developed….
      9/10 game of the month!

    4. Ivan_PSP:

Turok sucks worst game ever i won’t buy it for PS3 nah worth ten bucks not even worth it free.

    5. screw turok:

i wouldnt even play this crap if they gave it to me for free. so i am NOT one of the six people that bought this game for the ps3

    6. Adrian Firmin:

      Well duh!

Geez, is this a surprise to them or something? It’s only been said about (insert number of ports here) times. You’d think the developers would wise up… guess not.

    7. Frazer369:

I enjoyed the game. the dino killing gets a bit repetitive though they could have done a few more animations on the knife kills though.

    8. grimmz357:

turok demo sucked period make a good game then complain about how hard it is to port
take a page out of infinity wards book and stop
complaining btw COD4 game of the year and they didnt gripe and moan honestly i dont even want your 360 ports so be as lazy as you want and dont even bother. make them 360 exclusives
if the game is gonna suck like turok

This blog is getting way too many hits with cheap ps3 bashing. Burnout was developed on ps3 and it shows by being the best version. Gamer blorge has just become tabloid junk feeding on hits from flamers. Start giving this site a miss and advise others to do the same before they do some damage with their self generated hype.

    10. Satans:

“PS3 is harder to develop” is said by cheap, not giving a shit, lazy developers who cant be arsed to learn to utilize new technology and all its awsomenes

    11. CHAOTIC-:

of course it’s harder to port games to the ps3 from the 360.

The 360 is basically a 2nd gen console while the ps3 is 3rd gen now I’m not saying the 360 is 2nd gen but some of the games are.

The reason it’s harder to port 360 games to the ps3 is because the ps3 has some advanced technology the 360 doesnt

    12. bigfella:

Satans, do you really think developers WANT to put a substandard product out there? The fact that it is difficult to program on PS3 is not the developer’s fault, it squarely lays on the shoulders of Sony’s.

Do you think you can do a better job than these developers or something?

    13. Michael:

After many 360 led development rubbish (mostly from EA) it seems many developers are strating to develop led on ps3 first, which is only good for the consumer, Burnout Paradise proves this is what EA can so, I believe COD4 was also ps3 developed

    14. G:

I don’t care who developes for what system first. There’s no excuse to put out a game as bad as Turok (anymore).

It seems like they’re trying to make excuses about a bad game they created.

We didn’t hear about complaints from CoD4’s camps.
