‘The Club’ graphically superior on Xbox 360 to PS3
By Dave Parrack
Another game has entered the my console is better than yours debate, with The Club reputed to be graphically superior on the Xbox 360 than it is on the PS3, even though both versions of the game were made at the same time by the same people.
The Club is a mature rated shooter developed by Bizarre Creations and published by Sega. A playable demo is currently available for download via Xbox LIVE and the PlayStation Network, with the full game getting a North American release on February 19th.
Video Gamer has given both versions some extensive game play testing, and reviewed them side by side. The result, at least as far as they think, is that both graphically and gameplay wise, the game on the Xbox 360 kicks the butt of the Playstation 3 version.
First to the graphics, with Video Gamer describing the differences between the two console versions:
“after extensive play we have noticed a few slight blemishes in the PS3 version. At times the PlayStation 3 game will suffer from frame rate issues. It’s not major, but it is noticeable. To our eyes the PS3 game is also rougher in appearance, failing to offer as crisp an image as the Xbox 360 game.”
Slight blemishes probably won’t be noticed by anyone other than people actively looking for them, but frame rate on the other hand IS a big problem. There’s nothing worse than being in the middle of some action, especially a fire fight in a shooter, only to have the game jerk around and completely put you off. This really shouldn’t happen on the PS3, as the technology should be able to compensate.
That frame rate issue crops up again when deciding which version wins in the gameplay stakes, along with the controller layout:
“On the Xbox 360 the game uses the standard FPS control scheme and it works very well. The analogue sticks give you more than adequate control over your character and the triggers feel perfect for the job at hand. On the PlayStation 3’s Sixaxis the default layout isn’t quite so perfect.”
“The game just feels better on the Xbox 360. The consistent frame rate also helps it edge the win in this category.”
Blorge isn’t associated with Video Gamer at all, so why, you may be asking yourself as you shake your head at the supposed bias in the article, are we taking their word for it? Luckily, we don’t have to, as they have made a detailed video comparison, so that you, and I can see the differences for ourselves.
There’s no doubt in my mind that the Xbox 360 version of The Club looks better on screen, being crisper, sharper, and graphically just that little bit neater around the edges.
The question remains though: is that the fault of the PS3 hardware, or the fault of the programmers at Bizarre?

Ahh, more pro-360 biased bullshit on this site! How fun!
Who gives a shit? No one cares about The Club, they ruined it a long time ago by incorporating the dumb arcade features in it. The enemies are generic and stupid, you have a set amount of time… this article is just plain irrelevant. Stop trying to start flame wars and go back to news that actually matters.
The funny thing is that you try to disguise your obvious 360 fanboyishness in this article, but underneath you really give rimjobs to Bill Gates. Have fun waiting for your 5th RROD’d 360 to ship back.
I’ll be looking forward to real games, like MGS4, GTAIV, GT5, and LittleBigPlanet

“There’s no doubt in my mind that the Xbox 360 version of The Club looks better on screen, being crisper, sharper, and graphically just that little bit neater around the edges”
And that’s the ONLY reason these “mature-hardcore-gamers” play their little games these days.
Screw the gameplay. To hell with a good challenge and a nice plot. It’s all about how pretty my $60 buck “mature” game looks on my mother’s HDTV.
I hate gamers that get THAT anal over how a game looks… and not how does it play.
I mean, Lair looks awesome, but plays like shit. Isn’t there a fucking lesson to be learned there?

Chris,
First of all , the RROD was addressed and fixed a long time ago, stop beating a dead horse.
How can you justify an article with proof that the 360 version is better as bullshit?
Lastly, those games you have listed aren’t even out yet. They could be disasters for all you know. LBP and MGS4 have been delayed numerous times, so there obviously must be problems with those games that developers are having. Otherwise they would have made one of their many revised release dates.
February 13th, 2008
Gotta agree with Chris on this one. Not for this particular article, but for the site’s clear bias towards the PS3.
Inferior ports are down to lazy developers rushing the product to market before it’s ready. Burnout Paradise proves that when done properly, the PS3 can more than match the 360.
If AAA PS3 titles take a little longer in the interest of getting them right, I’m happy to wait - as I was for the PS3 itself. MS took a build quality shortcut to get the threefixme out early, and is now being outsold everywhere except America - where the gap is closing.
And ‘Bigfella’ - RROD has not gone away by a long shout. And LPB and MGS4 likely disasters? Too busy laughing to even comment on that.

RROD hasnt been anything like fixed its now at 10% for the new models which Microsoft deem to be acceptable. Compared to 1% for Wii and PS3 and most types of big name electronics TVs DVDs etc that is nothing short of disrespectful to the consumer. If a product was advertised as “only a one in ten chance of failure” would you buy it? I suppose it can look like a positive thing if accompanied by the tag line “compared to a one in three chance on the old model (stock still available).”

I honestly wasn’t all that impressed w/ the demo frankly. Had nothing to do with the looks or the feel…just seemed stupid and well, just a really weak attempt at an FPS. So, it’s not a really big loss for myself.
As for the RROD issue…it’s MS’s fault, and Xbox users should really be pissed about it (I would, if I owned one). I don’t really get how you can be ok with a piece of equipment that had a 10% failure rate…admitted failure rate. As with alot of companies I’ve come to question these days, I find Microsoft’s lack of action on this, disturbing at best. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never had any illusions that Microsoft was a company that really cared or not…but about their corporate image? Acting on issues etc…? Just seems they kind of tossed a bit of money at their users, and said deal with it.
Anyway, delays or not, MGS4, GT5, Tekken 6, Warhawk and Final Fantasy XIII are the major reasons why I chose to purchase a PS3, Haze, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Home, and Resistance 2 are just major bonuses.
As for whether the issues in The Club are due to hardware, having played the demo, I know for a fact it’s nowhere remotely close to what GT5 looks like…which runs at 1080p and 60fps. So…again, seems like crappy developing.

I respect your opinion, bigfella, but your points don’t hold water.
The RROD issue was not addressed at all, the problems now are just as bad as they were before. I’m just pissed because I’ve gone through three 360s in the past two years. My last one crashed on saturday, and now I have to send it back to be refurbished. Doesn’t it seem like a problem when I have to send my 360 back 3 times, yet my PS3, PC, iPod, and all my other electronics are running fine?
Trust me, there will is absolutely no chance LBP, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gran Turismo 5, GTAIV, etc. will be disasters. These games will be huge. How many highly anticipated games have turned out to be disasters? Not many. Halo 3 was good, SMG was decent, Uncharted was great, Crysis was great… MGS4 and LBP are finished if not, nearly finished, and we’ve seen some amazing gameplay already. If we’ve already seen how well a game plays, we can’t negate the facts that we’ve already seen.

i have had my 360 since launch and have never had one issue with it and i play it allot so i guess i have been blessed with a good product as for the graphics of the club ps3 vs 360 why are they even being compared isnt it still the same game ????
February 13th, 2008
Chris,
My points do indeed hold water. RROD has infact been addressed with the ‘falcon’ chip increasing stability. In saying that though, I bought one of the original 360s and have never had a problem with it. I spend a good 3-4 hours a day on it too. Nobody I know has had the RROD either, and they’ve had their 360s for as long as I have.
In regards to hyped games, on both sides of the fence, I like to use the ‘wait and see’ approach before getting too excited over a game. Games such as Lair, Heavenly Sword, Blue Dragon were touted as instant classics before they were released, and I think everyone was disappointed with them. They weren’t ‘bad’ games, except for Lair, but they weren’t the groundbreaking games people were expecting. As I only have a 360 right now (considering getting a PS3 also if the games you mentioned above are indeed as good as they are touted to be) I am not going to be getting excited about Alan Wake, Halo Wars, Too Human, Fable 2 etc until they are released.
And Brick, read my post again, I never said that they are likely to be disasters. If you are actually laughing at something like that, then you have issues…
And the gap in America isn’t closing at all, the 360 is still outselling the PS3. The gap is widening in terms of total sales. Sure the units sold weekly are a little closer than they used to be, but for Sony to catch up they have to actually eclipse the weekly units sold, and then catch up to the total amount of 360s sold, which I don’t think they can do anytime soon.
February 13th, 2008
@bigfella “And the gap in America isn’t closing at all, the 360 is still outselling the PS3. The gap is widening in terms of total sales. Sure the units sold weekly are a little closer than they used to be”
………
Which one is it?

RROD does suck but can someone tell me what Nintendo or Sony will do for you when their consoles break down after a year. It has to be pretty much nothing or you wouldn’t get so many results when you type in Broken PS3 on Ebay. It does suck to have to wait to get it back but there is some comfort in knowing that for three years you will always have a working console.
February 13th, 2008
OOh - look at the ps3 fanboys all in a snoot. Wasn’t the ps3 supposed to blow the 360 out of the water with it’s graphics? Now all ps3 fanboys just hope a game is as good as the 360 - lmao! And the 360 had like a 5 million unit lead on the ps3 before christmas, and now the 360 has a 7 million unit lead? Doesn’t look like the ps3 is closing the gap to me.
February 14th, 2008
Not sure I understand these comparisons. If both consoles came out at EXACTLY the same time and the developers had the same time to work on them then we could draw conclusions. So the PS3 is basically matching the X360 only one year into it’s life. The only way is up.
February 14th, 2008
Er, it may be that I am being a little over sensative, but this is a programming issue, right? The PS3 needs a dedicated team to develope the cream, right? (Drakes fortune is awesome!) And doesn’t Bizarre Creations actualy make a racer for the Box? Don’t they, in effect, work for microsoft? So they know that machine backward, thay must do! Even getting a PS3 release out at the same time by a Xbox team is, frankly, freaking amazing!! Kudos (ha) to you, Bizarre!!
February 14th, 2008
I don’t think any game out on the ps3 has taken full advantage of the ps3 hardware. The cpu in the ps3 out performs the xbox. It’s a matter of the developers understanding the power available and actually using it. The delays with the games mentioned, could possibly be to take full advantage of the hardware. I can wait till GT5 comes out and experience a game like none other.
February 14th, 2008
Ms should have made the xbox 360 idiot proof like sony and nintendo done with their system, mine never die on me.
February 14th, 2008
Who cares which console sells the most. Its not about that for companies, its all about making money. I have both consoles and yes the 360 games are better, it not my opion its a fact. There will be people who say I am just a MS fanboy but I am not. The 360 games are better… I have my PS3 for a HD Films, which to be honest is a bit of a shame as they are loads better quality but for some reason a bit disappointing I expected more. On the games front I didn’t buy my PS3 for future games that would just be silly. You wouldn’t buy a car that used a new fuel that has not been invented yet and go around telling everyone you had it. People would think you are mad…. listen sony fanboys don’t keep saying I am waiting for this game or that game to come out you just sound like you made a mistake with your purchase… and lastly lets hopw all consoles sell well so we get the same games quality from the Xbox 720 and PS4…

This site is run by trolls…

I have both systems…and my 360 still gets turned on a lot more than the PS3.
Uncharted? It’s Gears of War in the jungle with lots of annoying firefights when there should be more exploring. Most overrated game of the year…annoying too. (funny how PS3 fanboys constantly talk about the 360 only having shooters when most of the original line-up on the PS3 turned out to be shooters).
Ratchet and Clank is pretty fun, but after you get over the graphics, it’s just the same shooter we played on the PS2.
Burnout Paradise? Since the PS3 does not support custom soundtracks, I bought the 360 version.
I even had a friend bring over his ps3 version of Assassin’s creed to compare both versions and again, the 360 version won out as far as visuals and framerate are concerned.
Sorry, but every time I waited on a game that came out on both systems to see which was considered better, it always turned out to be the PS3…except for one exception…Oblivion. I actually douple-dipped on that game just to have a reason to turn on the PS3.
I do like Stardust HD, Pain, Flow, etc. But the PS3 store is no match for whats on XBOX Live Arcade. Not by a long shot.
The PS3 does make a nice multimedia device. I use it to watch streaming movies and video podcasts. Unfortunately for it’s exclusives (which I will buy), I’m always going to be wondering how much better looking it could have been if they made it for the 360.
February 14th, 2008
Correction…the above post should have read:
Sorry, but every time I waited on a game that came out on both systems to see which was considered better, it always turned out to be the XBOX 360.
February 14th, 2008
everyone is forgetting that its easy to make a game on xbox 360 it’s a 3 core desktop with a nice graphics card. the ps3 on the other hand is a different device. when games are made on both systems they get the easy part done, make the ps3 version work, and thats it so yeah ported games will always look better then the system they were designed on. when a company focuses on the ps3 version, they are learning a new system, it takes them longer (because there learning) but in the end the game is much better. if you want to really compare the two systems take some knowledgeable 360 game developers and knowledgeable ps3 game developers and have them make the same game, then we can see what system is better, years behind 360 game developers = since computers have been around. years behind ps3 game developers = 2 maybe 3 years. when there are some more skilled ps3 people and patenince development companys the ps3 titles will beat the 360 titles.

anonymous, did you want me to spell it out for you or something?

Such a bias article. (including the videogamer article).
How are you going to compare a game based on a video that is running 5fps? This game is completely pathetic anyways.

“Uncharted? It’s Gears of War in the jungle with lots of annoying firefights when there should be more exploring. ”
Why do all 360 fanboys refer to games with cover systems as “Gears of War” ripoffs? All of a sudden, Uncharted is Gears of War in the jungle (a Tomb Raider comparison would have been more logical), GRAW2 is Gears of War in mexico, and BIA:Hell’s Highway will be Gears of War in WW2 Holland. Has microsoft brainwashed your ability to distinguish games by anything other than a common mechanic that didn’t even start with GoW?
June 1st, 2008
i think match grade is GoW in disguise. damn 360 fanboys, make me sick
