PS3 beats Xbox 360 US sales in January, gives Wii run for its money

Is this a sign of things to come? The PS3 may be overtaking Xbox 360 sales in the UK by summer but it turns out that the PS3 has already beaten Xbox 360 on its home turf. For the month of January, the PS3 moved up to the number two spot in US sales and pushed the Xbox 360 to the number three spot. The Nintendo Wii remained number one.
But the war is really between the Xbox 360 and PS3 only. It’s not that the PS3 is selling more but it seems that Xbox 360 sales are just slowing down a bit. The Wii sold 274,000 units during the month, the PS3 followed with 269,000 units and the Xbox 360 with 230,000 units sold.
According to TGDaily, even the PS2 outsold the Xbox 360 for the month. This only accounts for the single month. Obviously the install bases of the Xbox 360 far eclipse the PS3 and the Wii eclipses both of them. All the consoles had a rather weak showing for the month but that’s normal following heavy buying over the holiday season(s).
It’s suggested that the Xbox 360 is having trouble reaching a wider audience than its current install base but the PS3 has a lot of room to expand. Expand it will. A few good games are due out this year with some releasing next year. Until then, the PS3 makes a great Blu-Ray player. The death of HD-DVD is just around the corner. With that being the case why not pick up a console that can also play the winning Blu-Ray format and you’ll be all set when the games come out.
But don’t buy one just yet, the PS3 will supposedly see a revision later this year.

A rumor will pop up in the next few weeks (sort of based in fact), that the 360’s Blu Ray drive will infact happen, but as an add-on only. But with a hefty $300.00 usd, price tag.

on febuary 13th it was announced that ps3 had sold 1 million in the uk. it was relesed on march 23rd in europe so it took 47 weeks to sell one million. it accomplished this faster than xbox 360 which took 60 weeks and even accomplished it faster than it’s predecessor the ps2 which is the
highest selling console in the world which took 50 weeks to sell 1 million in the uk. this is a clear sign ps3 is selling faster than xbox 360. with blu-ray beating hd-dvd and the excellent exclusives coming out for ps3 in 2008 heres a list

A console does not make games great, the games make a console great and the PS3 isn’t there yet, hence, it will make a good Blu-Ray player until the rest of the (good) games are released.
And yes, I’m allowed to present my opinion just like every other person who has commented on the matter. Feel free to think otherwise but any sane person would probably ignore you.
It also depends on the types of games you like. The list on the PS3 is not as good as the Xbox 360 and yeah, that’s my opinion and yeah, I’m going to present it again and again, if you don’t like it, that’s fine. I won’t change your mind and you won’t change mine. The PS3 is still a great Blu-Ray player despite lacking a good line up of games.

If I only had a 360, those would be the games I’d get but being as it is, I’d rather have the PC variant (for those that have it).

Jonathon - you need to be more responsible with your comments. You are ‘representing’ news. You should have _some_ journalistic integrity by being ubiased. You do not help providing an unbiased view by making statements like:

Thats arrogance and ignorance all in one. You obviously would know there is over 100 coming out in 2008, and there is a great selection already available on the PS3. Its just inflamatory biased BS when you decide to express your ‘opinion’ when you are supposedly reporting ‘news’.
Keep to the facts and you wont look like such an ignorant Xbot fanboy. It must be hard to swallow the ‘PS3 sales better than X360′ pill eh?

Halo 3 (shit and dissapointing compared to COD4)
Lost Planet(coming to ps3 soon but i wouldnt buy it as it wasnt a good game)
Call of Duty 4 (this is on ps3 aswell and the ps3 version is just as good as the xbox 360 version)

God Father (this is not 360 exclusive and is one of the worst GTA clones ever)

when i said mass effect and gears of war were the only good games in your list i mean there the only good 360 exclusive games COD4 assasins creed and graw2 are excellent games
