Activision may release “DJ Hero”; Rock Band soundtrack in iTunes
The Rock Band soundtrack is now available in iTunes, and Activision trademarked the name "DJ Hero" in relation to "computer game software."
Earlier this afternoon, Kotaku caught the Rock Band soundtrack being offered and advertised in iTunes. According to iTunes, the colleciton was released on February 12. Similar to the iTunes Essentials: Guitar Hero collection released last year, it appears the the Rock Band offering is not an official album but is simply a collection of the game’s music.
In related news, the major power behind the Guitar Hero series, Activision, applied to trademark the name "DJ Hero" in relation to…
"…computer game software and related instruction manual sold together as a unit; interactive video game programs; computer game discs; downloadable software for use in connection with computer games; video game controllers; interactive video game comprised of a CD or DVD sold as a unit with a video game controller."
The filing doesn’t guarantee the company will release "DJ Hero," but for the sake of gamers everywhere, let’s hope Activion pulls through. Though if you can’t wait, a DJ-based game already exists says Ars Technica.
It’s called Beatmania, a rhythm arcade game put together by Konami. Gamers use a DJ’s turntable to play the game — obviously.
This isn’t the first time Activison has looked to Konami for inspiration. Some of you may have noticed these machines in arcades long before Guitar Hero was even a thought.
